Chapter 695: The Raven Before Civilizations Rose and Fell

Lynn carefully flipped through a few pages.

"But it's a shame. Nowadays, besides the Colossus's Brain itself, probably only Big Brother Aiwen and that God of All Machines would recognize this. What a waste of such a massive treasure trove."

Lynn shook his head and was about to close the book in his hands.

But at that very moment, he heard Zuo Zuo's voice murmuring softly, as if she were talking in her sleep.

"I think I recognize it."

Lynn's movements froze.

He turned his head and quietly looked at this little girl beside him, watching as she reached out and took the book from his hands, flipping open the first page with a dazed expression as she spoke in a low voice.

"This is... this is a piece of history..."

"It records many ancient legends that the entire Colossus Civilization revered during the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. From... from a certain perspective, this is also the very beginning of the entire Colossus Civilization's recorded history—the worship of gods and flesh and blood that was already established during that ancient and distant primitive era..."

In the silent hall, only the sound of that slender little hand dazedly turning the pages echoed.

Actually, she didn't know why she recognized it either.

Maybe it was because she was the Colossus's Heart.

Maybe she herself represented the last ember of this civilization.

It was as if, with the flipping of each page, certain things that had been locked deep within her consciousness were gradually being awakened, little by little.

"Perhaps it was tens of thousands of years ago, or hundreds of thousands of years ago, or even earlier in that distant era..."

She lowered her head, holding the book, and spoke in a low voice.

Her long black hair hung down limply, and just like Lynn, he quietly watched her, acting as the listener.

"Our civilization, back in the era of eating raw meat and drinking blood, received enlightenment from a wise being from beyond the cosmos. He was the god we continued to believe in and worship for countless years after our flesh and blood ascended. We firmly believed He was the creator of all things, the true sovereign of everything. He was the one who gave us the direction of flesh ascension, and He was the one who laid the foundation for our civilization's subsequent glory."

"So we must follow in His footsteps, become His guardians with our Colossus bodies, and defend the future He revealed to us."

"So we firmly believed."

"When winter descends, when eternal night shrouds the sky, the ancient Raven will return once more, leading us to sound the clarion call of daybreak."

She slowly closed the book, her gaze still distant.

She had only recited a small portion of it, the very beginning and origin of the entire Colossus Civilization as recorded when it was written.

Lynn's gaze fixed on her as he asked, "Raven?"

Zuo Zuo held the book in her hands, her eyes lowered, and nodded slightly, staring absently at the book in her hands, saying, "Mm... a Raven... that brings the spring..."

These were ancient legends, fairy tales that even within the Colossus Civilization could only be vaguely traced back to the era of eating raw meat and drinking blood in ancient times.

But for some reason, Lynn felt as if he had heard a similar version before. During his conversations with Sir Aiwen, he had also told him an old fable like that.

The same early stages of a civilization.

The same offering of beautiful hopes and futures.

[Because there will always be a crow that quietly descends on winter nights and gently leaves when it brings us the first warm breeze.]

[It always holds a torch, watching over our years, and treats us with tenderness.]

The fairy tale that Sir Aiwen had told him echoed softly in his mind once again.

Similar.

It was so strikingly similar at this moment.

Could it be that they were actually the same one?

In that ancient era, was there really such a crow that flew across civilization after civilization, bringing this single old fairy tale to them in that distant time?

But who could that crow be?

He said he would descend before every winter and leave before spring arrived. Didn't that mean that now was already deep in the dead of winter? And what was that winter he referred to?

Lynn's head shot up.

Was it that Darkness?

The Cataclysm that had descended upon the entire main world three thousand years ago, causing countless Ancient Gods to fall and die?

He didn't know.

He had never believed in gods before. Even after falling into hell and meeting so many Roots, even knowing their former identities, he still didn't believe in gods—didn't believe in some unseen sovereign that controlled everything and watched over this world.

Because when all the mystery is stripped of its halo, when all the gods shed their disguises, they were just beings too powerful for ordinary people to comprehend.

But it seemed, as if by some unseen force, there really was a hand influencing and manipulating the direction of the future.

However, he also knew.

This was not the time for him to ponder such things, because without a doubt, not even Sir Aiwen and the others had touched that domain, so how could he possibly be in the midst of it?

He shook his head.

And just as he was about to delve deeper into this vast ocean of books—

Suddenly.

An anomaly erupted.

The books that had been neatly arranged on the vast shelves suddenly fell in droves, like leaves shedding from trees, turning into countless pages that spiraled high above their heads in the sky, like countless golden butterflies dancing.

The ground beneath their feet rumbled and trembled.

And then, echoing faintly in their ears, came a voice, extremely weak.

"Welcome... my Queen..."

Instantly.

Without a second word, Lynn instinctively pulled Zuo Zuo behind him, his gaze alert as he surveyed the countless flying pages around them, and spoke those four words, one by one.

"The Colossus's Brain?"

And just as he finished speaking, an indescribable fluctuation surged into his brain like an electric current, causing his pupils to dilate instantly.

And in that flash of Hyper-Dimensional Perception, a vague figure sitting on a throne appeared in his mind, seeming to meet his gaze from afar with a pair of weak silver eyes.

It was as if his consciousness had entered Standby Mode for that instant.

"Come... to me."

That voice sounded again, as weak as if it might extinguish at any moment.

But the terrifying aura emanating from that Hyper-Dimensional Perception made Lynn instantly feel an immense and unimaginable pressure.

Lynn's gaze steadied.

He still held Zuo Zuo's hand tightly, and before them, the endless bookshelves that stretched to the heavens slowly parted left and right, revealing a path—a bridge leading to a higher place, manifesting before their eyes.

Zuo Zuo's expression grew even more dazed, her eyes filled with even greater confusion, as if something churning within her was also awakening and returning.

She instinctively tightened her grip on Lynn's wrist.

"Don't worry. I'm here. It's fine."

Lynn whispered, turning his head, and squeezed her fingers to comfort her.

Then he lifted his head, his gaze becoming calm, and holding Zuo Zuo's hand, he strode forward along that long bridge, step by step.

It was like walking through the void.

With every step, a translucent bridge, as if built from starlight, materialized beneath their feet.

And far below the bridge was an endless darkness. As they stepped forward, the boundless books behind them turned into countless pages, like phantoms in a Kaleidoscope, forming a surging sea of pages beneath their feet—a truly vast ocean of books!
