Chapter 1545: Chapter 9 Volume 40: Xiushui River Town_2

However, no matter how intense the bombardment, it could not stop the Suss people’s frenzied assault. In the grey steel torrent, Mechas constantly turned into flying fragments, constantly falling and vanishing amidst the surging waves.

Yet, this torrent never ceases.

Under the relentless assaults and bombardments of the Suss Army, the hilltop positions had long turned into unrecognizable dirt ditches. In the charred earth, blood had flowed into black and red streams.

The bloody water flowed from high to low, swirling by the burning wreckage of Mechas, soaking the warriors’ corpses, staining the fragments of Combat Uniforms red, and finally pooling in trenches filled with twisted guns, ragged metal frames, and bulletproof walls, only to be sent up by randomly falling shell to become a sky full of blood rain.

The front line, merely two kilometers wide including the slopes on both sides, resembles the hell of Asura.

To block the advance of the Suss Armored Group, the Chuckna Army deployed troops repeatedly for counterattacks.

A regiment pulled to the front was used up in less than an hour, and another was brought up, used up in less than another hour.

The front line was piled with the wrecks of Mechas from both sides. These burning steels, even blasted into pieces, were still huge at tens of tons. Thousands of wrecks piled together made the entire hill look like a graveyard of iron giants.

So far, Suss had launched twelve offensives.

The intensity of each offensive was greater than the last. The crazed surge of the Suss Army attempted to use these dense attacks to break through the Chuckna defense line. When the number of Mechas assaulting the line was enough to suppress the Chuckna Army’s firepower, or rather, left the Chuckna people unable to kill them all in time, a breakthrough was a certainty.

Unfortunately, their luxurious assault arrow composed of two hundred Judgers was firmly blocked at the front line by the bandit army. The Chuckna people’s relentless counterattacks were equally resolute and tough.

With the troops climbing atop the hill repeatedly, then retreating again, the morale of the Suss Army had fallen to the bottom.

They gazed up at this little hill, watched their companions charge toward the seemingly collapsing lines amidst the crisscrossing Energy Cannons, and saw wave after wave of fearless Chuckna people leaping out from the fiercely burning positions, turning their hopes to disappointment time and again.

The fighting prowess, the blood and guts of the Chuckna people were fully displayed before the Suss people on position 152.

In the early stages of the war, that restrained force, constantly retreating, always worrying and hesitant, had vanished.

Replaced by a force daring to charge a platoon alone, daring to hold onto an opponent for mutual destruction, daring to keep crawling at the front lines with broken legs and open bellies, clutching Fusion Hand Grenades, even rolling after Suss Mechas down the hill.

In terms of national economy, technology, industrial capability, or specific Mecha performance, equipment level, military officer acumen, and soldier fighting ability, Chuckna was far superior to the war-mongering Suss.

When this country’s army finally erupted in despair, even standing kilometers away from the battlefield on a hilltop, one could feel the terrifying power, the chilling air brought by their unyielding and unrelenting tenacity.

When the Suss Army repeatedly, after brutal tug-of-war, left hundreds or thousands of corpses and wrecks retreating, Suss officers could no longer maintain their courage.

In their hearts, some identical questions arose.

Even if they conquered position 152, so what? How many more position 152s did this country have? Were they truly conquerable by the Suss Empire?

Moreover, that force that stubbornly blocked the Judgers, although clearly not as powerful in combat as their opponent, repeatedly demonstrating their desperation and ferocity by fighting to the death, how many more companions like them were there?

When the entire Chuckna fought for their lives like the soldiers on position 152, following that force, what direction would this war take?

These questions were too profound, too complex, or rather too terrifying and chilling to think about. No one wanted to contemplate further.

They could only stare intently at that hell-like hilltop, letting their spirits fluctuate between hope and disappointment again and again.

There were less than forty Judgers left.

And that damn position, though shaky, still stretched across the front.

"Mr. Langman!"

With a solemn call, Langman moved his head away from the observation hole and looked toward his right-hand partner, Admiral Poro.

"Sir, I think you should come have a look yourself." Admiral Poro said with a serious face, his light blue eyes flickering with unease.

Langman slightly frowned, then saw Poro nodding affirmatively.

Without a word, he walked to Poro, taking the red electronic folder from Poro’s hand.

The dense data and text had just come into view, and before Langman could decipher these human symbols into meaningful information, Poro’s lowered, tense voice resonated in his ears.

"Admiral, we’ve just discovered that the enemy’s combined forces committed to Sunset Mountain plus the existing troops on the ground already exceeded six divisions," Poro whispered. His low tone was like it had the vocal cords removed, leaving only airflow from the nasal cavity and mouth.
