Chapter 1476: Chapter 9-15: Balance Weights (Part 2)

The two sides came and went, fighting in a tangle, with the defense line interwoven, each side within the other.

Nobody knew who would own the woods, the streets, or the small hill in the next moment. Even less could anyone predict when an enemy unit would appear suddenly at any point around them.

By ten o’clock in the evening, the vast area west of Sunset Mountain was finally completely occupied by the Western Alliance. As the clearing operations at the rear were completed, a large number of Western Alliance forces surged toward Sunset Mountain along the highway. The vanguard troops launched almost non-stop attacks, attempting to break through the defense line.

On the Fei Alliance side, only four divisions remained of the ten stationed in the Sunset Mountain battle zone. The temporarily assembled troops amounted to about six or seven battalions. Apart from the two armored divisions and two Mechanical Infantry Groups besieged in Seven-star Town and Xiushui River Town, whose fate was unknown, the confirmed loss amounted to three divisions, over twenty thousand soldiers.

The Sunset Mountain defense line was ablaze with artillery fire. The scales of the battle were delicately balanced, waiting for a new weight to tip them.

In the night sky, a Suss medium transport ship entered the atmosphere.

Sixty fighter jets, hovering in the sky for a long time like sixty iron birds, soared and changed formation at parallel heights, escorting the transport ship eastward.

Inside the transport ship, crew members either walked through ship passages or busied themselves before the flashing instruments in the control room and power cabin.

Outside the porthole, the night was as smooth as water. The slanted wings of the fighters flashed with a silvery sheen under the starlight. The low rumble rendered this high-altitude fleet particularly cold and lonely.

Amid their silent work, the Suss crew occasionally cast glances at the special passengers aboard their transport ship.

They were two hundred Binart soldiers dressed in black uniforms with wide-brimmed military hats, their high collars covering their necks and back of heads completely. Since boarding, they had quietly remained in their seats, either conversing softly or listening to music and reading newspapers. They seemed no different from any other soldiers the crew had transported before.

However, the crew knew that these seemingly ordinary Binart soldiers were each worth a fortune. They were the dreaded Judger squad—the super unit that struck fear into the hearts of the Fei Alliance people.

The battle at Sunset Mountain had begun. Once this transport ship landed at the front line, the last defense of the Feiyang people would be no more.

No one could withstand the attack of the Judger. They could already picture how the seemingly solid defenses of the Feiyang would be brutally shredded by the Judger’s cruel tactics.

To be entrusted with the task of transporting this super unit, to be in close proximity with these legendary Super Mecha Warriors, and to partake in such a massive battle to deliver the final fatal blow, was an honor each crew member would boast to their descendants about when they grew old.

"Escort formation report, path cleared. The ship will land in ten minutes." The voice of the transport ship’s captain, slightly excited and tense, came through the broadcast.

Reinhardt closed the electronic folder in his hands, gestured to his deputy Rabin, then turned his head to look out the window. It was clear that the transport ship was currently descending slowly to the east, embraced by the fighter jets.

Beside him, the Judger mech knights began to stand up on Rabin’s command, making their way through the automatic door of the passenger cabin to the mecha cabin. Moments later, Reinhardt was the only one left in the three-hundred-seat passenger cabin.

The white shadowless lamp illuminated the spacious cabin brightly. That lone silhouette was like a ghost without a trace of life.

Reinhardt opened a small mirror, removed his hat, and unfolded his collar.

The face in the mirror, clear to every detail, was handsome but stiff. The silvery white metal arched from his forehead to the back of his head, wrapped around his ears, and extended down to his collarbone.

A mocking smile appeared at the corner of Reinhardt’s mouth.

With just one glance, he expressionlessly put on his military hat, fastened his collar, covered that cold metal head once more, then abruptly stood up and hurled the mirror at the cabin wall. The mirror shattered into hundreds of fragments upon impact with the metal wall, shattering into pieces.

A grotesque and twisted face was reflected on the porthole glass.

Reinhardt’s experiences over the past year flashed through his mind like a movie.

After Mezrich’s escape, he found himself drifting to the Desic Empire. However, Desic had no intention of investing manpower or resources to help him rise again. Instead, they left him, a Level 9 Mecha Warrior and former Mythical Army Legion Commander, in a small base, frozen for half a year.

It was like being imprisoned for half a year. The Desic nobles’ cynicism and the Desic military’s disdain felt like knives, constantly lacerating his dignity.

Yet he could not complain. He had to lower himself, roam around, to seize any slim opportunity he could find.

If he hadn’t learned about the Transformed People project from someone, he might still be wasting away, frozen at that remote and primitive base.

Going to the Binart Empire, undergoing transformation, meeting Sobel, arriving at Leifeng Star... Reinhardt could no longer remember how he made this painful decision or the steps he took to get here.

The clearest memory in his mind was not the agony of transformation, nor the numbness of only ten of the hundreds of Mythical Soldiers following him surviving, nor the joy of becoming a Judger Squad Captain as a foreigner. Instead, it was a girl named Christina, with her sad and disappointed eyes.
