Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 300: An Ungrateful Wretch
After waiting outside Cadar’s door for nearly an hour, she still hadn’t seen anyone open it.
Frustrated, Chen Xing decided she had to create her own opportunity.
She walked to the door and knocked.
The soldier outside, thinking Cadar was calling for him, opened the door and looked inside, but saw no one.
Cadar was fast asleep and didn’t seem to have woken up at all.
So, puzzled, he closed the door again.
Through that small gap, Chen Xing slipped into Cadar’s room without touching anyone.
She had her slender figure to thank for that; otherwise, it would have been difficult to pass through so deftly.
The bedroom door was open. Cadar seemed completely oblivious, sleeping like a log.
Chen Xing spotted the black cat at once.
It seemed to have noticed Chen Xing and was staring right at her.
But then… something surprising happened.
The black cat, which she expected to be hostile, instead acted as if it had missed its master for ages. It leaped into Chen Xing’s arms and started rubbing against her affectionately.
‘Alright!’
Chen Xing felt a sense of relief. Her space was still hers.
‘Maybe the spring water in the space enhanced its connection, making it more dependent on me. That’s a good thing!’
But just then, Cadar’s eyes snapped open.
Seeing this, the black cat immediately jumped onto Cadar’s bed, fawning over her.
It had received its master Chen Xing’s command to pretend it was loyal only to Cadar.
Cadar stroked the black cat, a sense of unease rising in her heart as she scanned the room. She knew someone had broken in. “Who are you?”
She was on high alert.
Especially protective of her ears.
Chen Xing tried to get close several times but couldn’t make a move.
When Chen Xing finally managed to snatch one earring and reached for the other, Cadar had already shouted and dodged away.
Chen Xing knew it was impossible to get the other earring now.
Just as she was despairing and thinking of leaving, the black cat on Cadar’s lap suddenly sprang up. With a swipe of its paw, it snagged the earring and leaped into Chen Xing’s embrace.
Chen Xing instantly sensed the Black Cat Space.
Cadar stared in disbelief at what had just happened. Furious, she yelled at her subordinates, “Kill that damn black cat! Now!” ‘Ungrateful creature!’
But Chen Xing was faster. She sent the black cat back to the Black Cat Space and was outside the door in an instant.
With more space outside, escaping was easy for her.
Back at her quarters, Chen Xing tried to enter the Black Cat Space.
But she was a little disappointed.
The Black Cat Space was still in its un-upgraded state, with over a hundred black cats crammed into the small area.
However, it wasn’t completely disconnected from her.
At least all these black cats recognized her as their master, treating her exactly as they had before.
She then conjured the black vortex in the small room and stepped into it.
This time, the vortex didn’t react to her at all; it was like standing on solid ground.
‘So… I still need to collect all the Green Gemstone Jewelry to have a chance of going back?’
‘There’s no other way!’
She would just have to do her best to collect all the jewelry.
The next day, Situ Yuanyuan was nowhere to be seen.
Chen Xing didn’t care at all.
Before long, Cadar arrived with a group of people.
But she wasn’t looking for just one person. Instead, she had all the Superpower Users gather in the Song Family’s main hall.
Due to the large number of people, they entered in batches.
Chen Xing was in the last group to enter.
Cadar didn’t notice her. After all, the girl was known to have four superpowers; it was impossible she’d have an Invisibility Ability on top of that.
“All of you with the Invisibility Ability, step forward now!” Even on someone else’s turf, Cadar was as overbearing as ever.
Two people stepped out and moved to the front.
Cadar circled the two Superpower Users, who were standing ramrod straight. “Where were you last night, and what were you doing?”
“We were on duty outside last night and only returned to the safe zone this morning!” The two had been on duty together, so they could vouch for each other.
Besides, there was a duty roster.
“Search them!” Cadar didn’t care if they were telling the truth or not.
She wouldn’t overlook any detail.
With the earrings gone, she had lost a major safeguard.
The other three families only had a few Invisibility Superpower Users in total, and their levels were still very low. It was impossible for them to have entered her room undetected.
Only the Superpower Users in Song Yiguo’s Superpower Team were high-level.
Therefore, the person who stole her earrings was very likely here.
Last night, she hadn’t seen anyone from start to finish. It had to have been an Invisibility Superpower User.
“On what grounds are you searching us?” one of the Superpower Users protested.
They hadn’t stolen anything, so why should they be searched?
“My earrings are missing, and you two are prime suspects. Why shouldn’t you be searched?” Cadar was used to being arrogant. To her, a body search was a trivial matter.
She believed that high-class people had every right to treat low-class people this way.
“We weren’t even in the safe zone last night, and we have proof! What you’re doing is an insult to our character!”
“For someone with an Invisibility Ability, isn’t it easy to enter the safe zone without being seen? If you didn’t do it, why would you be afraid of a search?” Cadar was certain that whoever stole her earrings knew their purpose.
They wouldn’t feel safe unless they kept something so important on their person.
So, a body search was the best way to find them.
The two Invisibility Superpower Users were speechless. It wasn’t that they were afraid of being searched, since they hadn’t done it.
But… she was insulting them!
“We didn’t do it, so we won’t submit to a random search!” The Invisibility Superpower Users grew defiant.
Even someone as domineering and harsh as Song Yiguo would never make them do something like this.
‘A foreigner wants to search us on our own territory?’
Just then, Song Yiguo walked in.
Dressed in a black military uniform, he had an inherently intimidating presence.
Even someone as haughty as Cadar couldn’t help but marvel. ‘Why does this man have such a powerful aura?’
“Miss Cadar, if my men say they didn’t do it, they didn’t do it. There’s no need for a search.” Song Yiguo’s tone was calm, but it carried a weight that was impossible to defy.
All of Cadar’s words caught in her throat, and she didn’t dare speak them.
“But… my earrings really were stolen…” Cadar had never felt so wronged.
She was supposed to be the most esteemed person in the world, second only to Blake.
Why was it that here in Huaxia, her noble status seemed completely useless?
She was the one who had been wronged, the one who had been robbed.
“You lost something on the Li Family’s territory, so you should naturally take it up with them! The Song Family Army has already done more than enough.” Song Yiguo had been reluctant to cooperate from the start.
Letting her take a quick look was one thing.
But he never expected she’d demand a body search.
This was an insult to him as well.
Chen Xing, however, thought Song Yiguo handled it well.
‘Even though he’s gone dark, he still knows how to protect his own people.’
Seeing that Song Yiguo had turned hostile, Cadar knew this man was not to be trifled with.
But she couldn’t accept it!
So, she scanned the people standing ramrod straight in the hall and immediately spotted Chen Xing’s face—a face she found repulsive.
She was looking right at her, a calm expression on her face, as if she knew exactly what was going on.
This infuriated Cadar, stirring an impulse to pin all the blame on her.
And so, that’s exactly what she did.
She pointed at Chen Xing and shouted, “It was her! She’s the one who stole my emerald earrings!”
