Chapter 265: Chapter 262: Worth It for Meng Hu

Zhang Jingtao’s question wasn’t directed at Chen Xing; he was simply talking to himself, unable to make sense of it all.

Chen Xing played along, putting on a confused expression. "I can’t remember anything! What about you? Do you know what happened?" she asked, looking at Lu Haoran.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t worried.

After all, surviving something like that should have been impossible.

Lu Haoran shook his head. "I just remember us running and running... then I woke up on the raft!"

"Was it really an immortal who helped us? Or a blessing from the Buddha Master?" Zhang Jingtao pressed his palms together, offering his thanks to the Buddha Master.

The wind was in their favor, and with the three of them paddling hard, they were close to the shore within thirty minutes.

In the distance, they could see the large ship moored by the shore.

It was still there, as if it had never left at all.

A surge of anger rose in Chen Xing’s chest.

’These people are so treacherous,’ she thought. ’They knew we would follow, so they planted bombs on the island and fled.’

"Should we board?" Chen Xing asked.

But she already knew her own answer.

She had to get on that ship.

Lu Haoran and Zhang Jingtao didn’t hesitate either, agreeing immediately.

The raft soon reached the side of the ship.

From below, they looked as small as figurines next to the ship. They estimated the deck was more than ten meters above them.

Looking around, they saw no obvious way to climb aboard.

The three of them and the tiger went ashore in a spot hidden from the ship’s view.

She told the two men to find a place to change their clothes and to meet back here in half an hour.

Naturally, she needed to change as well.

Taking Meng Hu with her, she found her car. Seeing that no one was around, she entered her pocket dimension to clean up both herself and Meng Hu before re-emerging.

As usual, she grabbed a large backpack to serve as a cover.

Half an hour later, Lu Haoran and Zhang Jingtao returned.

They got back on the raft and approached the large ship again.

Chen Xing threw a rope with a grappling hook, and it snagged on the railing of the deck, which was over ten meters high.

Zhang Jingtao was speechless. ’She looks so thin, but she has that kind of strength? Is she a Power-type Superpower User?’ he wondered.

Seeing Chen Xing and Lu Haoran already climbing, he didn’t dwell on it and grabbed the rope to follow them up.

Finally, Chen Xing told the two men to go on ahead and search. She then threw the rope down again and pulled Meng Hu up after he bit onto it.

’See? This is the inconvenience of traveling with other people,’ she thought.

’After this, I really don’t plan on teaming up with anyone again.’

Chen Xing didn’t follow the two men down below. Instead, she went in the opposite direction, heading for the upper decks.

’They were able to see me on the shore, weren’t they?’

’That means the person in command must be up here.’

She would leave the task of finding Lu Yanran to those two. She had no interest in it.

The entire ship was deathly still, as if completely deserted.

There was no one in sight, nor were there any signs of recent activity.

She reached the top deck without seeing a single person.

However, she did make a discovery on the top deck.

Chen Xing found a control room containing maps and some simple equipment.

She slowly ran her hand across a desk and found a warm spot, as if a hot mug had just been resting there.

Judging by the warmth, the person had only been gone for a minute or two.

She scanned the room but saw no secret doors or hidden passages.

Meng Hu began to pace, growing anxious and restless.

’Invisibility?!’

Chen Xing immediately grew wary of her surroundings.

’This Invisible Man is good... very good.’

’Normally, I can sense an invisible person to some degree.’

Suddenly, an unseen force wrapped around Meng Hu’s neck and lifted him into the air. His hind legs kicked weakly.

Chen Xing drew her knife and slashed at the empty air in front of Meng Hu’s neck, but it was useless.

Meng Hu’s face was turning purple, looking like it was about to burst.

’It’s over!’

’Any longer and Meng Hu will be done for!’

She couldn’t worry about the consequences. Chen Xing couldn’t just watch Meng Hu die. The moment her hand touched him, he vanished.

Inside the pocket dimension, it took Meng Hu a moment to recover. He then plunged into the spring water to replenish his energy.

Her opponent clearly hadn’t expected such a move.

In that brief moment of hesitation, Chen Xing pinpointed his location.

An electric current shot from her hand and spread across the floor.

Her opponent snapped out of it and reacted instantly.

He dodged the current and vanished once more.

’I have to kill this Invisible Man, no matter what.’

She darted out of the control room, several grenades appearing in her hand. She tossed them into every corner of the room.

She slammed the door shut and took several steps back.

Just moments before the grenades detonated, a figure appeared in the window opposite her.

It was the masked man from the Research Institute.

He glanced back at Chen Xing with a smile, then shattered the window and leaped into the sea.

The explosion roared behind Chen Xing as she sprinted off the ship with all her might.

By the time she was clear of the ship, she looked at the spot where the masked man had jumped into the sea, but there was nothing there.

’Damn it!’

’My pocket dimension was exposed just like that?!’

’But... it was worth it for Meng Hu!’

’There’s no internet now, so it’s not like my information can be spread far and wide.’

’Besides, given how the Research Institute operates, they probably won’t publicize it. Otherwise, more people would already know who I am.’

Before she could let Meng Hu back out, Lu Haoran came running up.

He had run up immediately after hearing the explosion. "Are you hurt? What happened?"

"I saw the masked man from the Xingguang Research Institute," Chen Xing said, watching Lu Haoran’s expression.

Since he was from the Lu Family, he might know who this person was.

Chen Xing was extremely wary of this man.

He could turn invisible, use Object Control, and was incredibly fast.

The masked man had at least three different superpowers.

But Lu Haoran just looked confused. "There’s a masked man at the Xingguang Research Institute?" He wasn’t sure. After all, he had only ever been to the Research Institute in the Capital City.

Realizing she wouldn’t get any information out of Lu Haoran, Chen Xing dropped the subject. "Is Lu Yanran here?"

"It’s an empty ship!" Lu Haoran said, dejected.

If we can’t find her here, where else can we look?

Zhang Jingtao came up too, his expression even more grim than Lu Haoran’s. "We only managed to catch a few of the crew. They don’t know anything!"

An idea struck Chen Xing, and she immediately climbed to the top of the ship.

She paced around the top deck, finding a vantage point with a clear view of the surroundings.

Only a minute or two had passed since the masked man jumped into the sea. The pier was just over a hundred meters away; he should be reaching the shore by now.

About a minute later, two wet footprints appeared on the concrete pier.

The masked man was cautious, still maintaining his invisibility.

Chen Xing already had a grenade ready. She tossed it right at the footprints, followed by several more, throwing them ahead of his projected path.

A pained scream rang out, and a figure materialized, collapsed on the ground.

His arm, back, and lower leg were injured, and his head was bleeding, but the wounds weren’t fatal.

’He’s tough.’

Chen Xing raised another grenade, about to throw it, but was stopped by Lu Haoran, who muttered, "I think I recognize him..."
