Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 263 - 260: Not His Intention?
Chapter 263: Chapter 260: Not His Intention?
Song Yiguo then told Chen Xing what he had discovered from his investigation.
According to the files from the Xingguang Research Institute, ninety percent of the test subjects were sent there from birth... or rather, even before birth, from the womb, and were then delivered inside.
As for the mothers of the children? That was unknown.
A small portion were likely sent in later.
Song Yiguo had never been able to find any records on Chen Xing, so... he suspected it was very likely she had also come from there.
Seeing the look on Chen Xing’s face now, he was seventy percent sure.
Chen Xing listened, her lips pressed together, her face pale.
’What kind of parents would be willing to send their own child to a Research Institute? A newborn, at that?’
"Isn’t the Xingguang Research Institute owned by the Lu Family?" ’Lu Bingtian wouldn’t send his own grandson in there, would he?’
But... thinking about her own resemblance to Lu Bingtian, she felt that nothing was impossible.
"I heard Lu Bingtian is about to go crazy himself. This probably has nothing to do with him!"
"Xu Anguo?" Chen Xing looked at Song Yiguo in astonishment.
Song Yiguo nodded. "Although the Xingguang Research Institute is under the Lu Family’s name, it is entirely managed by Xu Anguo."
"He’s Lu Yanran’s uncle-in-law. He wouldn’t go that far, would he?" After asking, she realized he absolutely would.
’A man who could experiment on newborn infants wouldn’t hesitate to do something to Lu Yanran, who isn’t even a blood relative.’
The Lu Family, without the Research Institute, seemed to be nothing more than an empty shell. They couldn’t possibly maintain their standing with military strength alone.
In terms of military power, the Lu Family was leagues behind the Song Family.
"Lu Haoran said that when Lu Bingtian was plotting with the other major powers, Lu Yanran was strongly against it. Although Lu Yanran is Lu Bingtian’s daughter, she has a gentle temperament and didn’t inherit any of his traits." Song Yiguo had to admit that Lu Yanran was indeed a good woman. But unfortunately for her, her surname was Lu.
If Lu Bingtian died, he might consider sparing Lu Yanran.
But that was only if Lu Bingtian was truly dead.
It was rare for Chen Xing to hear Song Yiguo praise someone.
That day, she had also seen how Lu Yanran treated Lu Haoran. She didn’t seem like a bad person.
’But what does that have to do with me?’
"If you go against the Research Institute, you might be able to save your sister."
"Get lost!" Chen Xing couldn’t stop herself from cursing.
Song Yiguo knew Chen Xing was genuinely repulsed, so he dropped the subject. "So... you’re not planning to go and see what’s going on?"
"I’ll go!" Chen Xing never said she wouldn’t.
Not for Lu Yanran, but to uncover the secrets of the Research Institute and recover her own memories.
As for finding her parents, she had given up.
’What’s the point of finding parents who would throw their newborn child into a place like that?’
Song Yiguo took out a satellite phone and gave it to Chen Xing. "This will make it easier to stay in touch!"
Chen Xing didn’t refuse.
"My men found two Research Institutes in the North. I’ll give you the address for the one in the North Sea first!"
"There’s a Research Institute in the North Sea, too?"
"The one in the North Sea is relatively close to where the Lu Family is currently hiding. We just haven’t been able to pinpoint the Lu Family’s exact location yet!" ’Otherwise, I would have annihilated Lu Bingtian immediately.’
That afternoon, Chen Xing boarded a plane to the North Sea.
As for why Song Yiguo didn’t just go and destroy the Research Institute himself?
His answer was simple.
Because Xu Anguo of the Research Institute had not been involved in the plot against the Song Family.
Chen Xing didn’t argue.
’Didn’t Xu Anguo participate?’
’Didn’t General Song die in the Research Institute in the Capital City?’
It was already dark when Chen Xing arrived in the North Sea.
Just after getting off the plane, she was chased by several Advanced Zombies.
After killing them with Meng Hu’s help, she went to find a place to stay.
She could only find the address Song Yiguo had given her using an offline GPS.
However, it was only a general location; she would have to find the exact spot on her own.
Chen Xing’s car had been transported with the plane.
With no suitable place to stay along the way, she recalled Meng Hu, stored her car, and entered her house-space to sleep.
It seemed her body was enhanced whenever she slept in the house-space.
So... she now tried to sleep there as much as possible.
The next day, she didn’t emerge from the space until after eight in the morning.
The temperature outside had dropped suddenly, but thankfully, it hadn’t started snowing yet.
She had to find the Lu Family’s Research Institute in the North Sea as quickly as possible.
She found the general area on the map, but it seemed to be off by several kilometers.
So, she started driving around the vicinity.
’There were quite a few Stone Monsters in that swamp in the North Sea before.’
’I’d better stay away from there. The smell is awful.’
But... after driving around for a while, she caught a pungent, foul odor.
’Familiar!’ She immediately put on a gas mask and stopped the car.
She turned the car around and drove for a short while. As the stench faded, she found herself at the North Sea coast.
It was the same dock where the boats had been moored before.
Taking off the gas mask, she stepped out of the car.
The wind was already bone-chilling. It probably wouldn’t be long before it started snowing again.
Chen Xing wrapped her clothes tighter around herself and began searching the area with Meng Hu.
Since this area was also within the search parameters, the probability of finding it was high.
There were still many boats moored by the shore. A few were passenger ships, quite large—the biggest one she could see had six decks.
Some of them, though near the coast, were anchored a short distance from the shore.
Chen Xing examined them one by one.
Surprisingly, a few of the boats actually looked inhabited.
Naturally, Chen Xing didn’t bother with the small boats.
She focused on the largest passenger ship.
It was at least a hundred meters from the shore.
’Jumping that far is completely impossible!’
As she scanned her surroundings, she spotted someone under a withered tree, some distance from the shore, waving at her.
’Lu Haoran?’
Chen Xing took a roundabout path toward him.
She didn’t walk straight over because she had been wandering openly on the shore and had likely already been spotted.
Lu Haoran had been out in the open for many days and looked somewhat haggard. "Song Yiguo sent you?"
"Yes." ’Wasn’t it his idea?’
’To have Song Yiguo tell me to come and help rescue someone?’
Lu Haoran’s expression soured. "I wanted the Song Family Army to come and rescue her." He hadn’t expected Chen Xing to show up until he saw her.
Chen Xing: "..." ’So... what is Song Yiguo up to? Does he really want me to rescue Lu Yanran, or...?’
Seeing that Chen Xing didn’t understand his meaning, Lu Haoran explained, "Hasn’t Song Yiguo always wanted to kill Lu Bingtian? I figured if I told him my sister was missing, he would find a way to locate her and then force Lu Bingtian to show himself."
Chen Xing looked at Lu Haoran curiously. "What did Lu Bingtian do to you guys?" The last time she saw him, he was calling him "Dad." Now, after just a short time, he was using his full name.
Lu Haoran let out a somewhat bleak laugh, one that matched the cold weather. "Last time, my sister went to the North but failed to get those emerald earrings. Lu Bingtian beat her for it, and she almost lost the baby. After managing to save the child, my sister was completely disheartened and wanted to leave, but who knew he would put her under house arrest. Then, she suddenly disappeared. I learned all of this from my brother-in-law!"
"Your brother-in-law knows where Lu Bingtian is staying?" ’If I keep digging like this,’ Chen Xing thought, ’it should be easy to find Lu Bingtian’s lair, right?’
