Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 251 - 248: This Man is Handsome
Chapter 251: Chapter 248: This Man is Handsome
Chen Xing first wandered around the city.
Along the way, she saw many vehicles entering Green City.
Among them, she even spotted a vehicle from the Song Family Army.
However, Song Yiguo wasn’t in the car. It was only Secretary Liu with a group of Superpower Users.
In her current disguise, Chen Xing didn’t go over to greet them.
She circled Green City, heading from its center to the north, then the east, and finally the south.
The south gate was where Chen Xing had entered before. A long line had already formed there, with people waiting to get in.
It seemed quite a few people had their eyes on these emerald earrings.
She just couldn’t figure it out. How did these rich people know that such an inconspicuous item, listed at such a high price, was something good?
’Perhaps the rich just have a broader perspective?’
Chen Xing walked past the south gate, planning to check out the west side before heading to the auction house.
But just as she passed the south gate, she saw Brother Jin.
He was no longer the debonair, carefree man he once was. He looked like someone whose rough edges had been smoothed out by life—composed and worldly-wise.
The naivety in his eyes seemed to have faded, replaced by the calm demeanor of a seasoned merchant.
He was wearing a suit, sitting in a car and looking out the window.
In a glance, he saw Chen Xing too.
’It’s just... some middle-aged woman!’
He immediately retracted his gaze and looked toward the city.
Just as Chen Xing was about to disappear from view, he seemed struck by something and quickly glanced back in the middle-aged woman’s direction.
But all he saw was a receding figure, quickly vanishing between the buildings.
Chen Xing didn’t dwell on how Brother Jin had changed.
’The emerald earrings are what’s most important right now!’
Forgetting her plan to check out the west side of Green City, she headed straight for the auction house.
The auction house was in the city center, several streets away from the hotel where Chen Xing was staying.
By the time Chen Xing arrived at the auction house, a large crowd had already gathered.
Many people were crowded around the entrance, trying to get a peek inside.
The main doors of the auction house were locked tight and blocked by a steel plate, making it impossible to see inside.
So, Chen Xing didn’t push her way through the crowd. Instead, she backed away.
From a distance, she could see the three-story building behind the auction house’s outer walls.
Through a floor-to-ceiling window on the third floor, a few figures were visible.
The sunlight was intense, and the glare on the glass was too strong to see the situation inside clearly.
But in that brief moment of observation, she still spotted a black cat.
’It’s Cadar’s black cat, no doubt about it!’
Once she confirmed it was Cadar, Chen Xing seemed to gain confidence, and the corners of her mouth curled into a slight smile.
If Cadar was the seller behind the scenes, then Chen Xing was certain the two pieces of Green Gemstone Jewelry had an extraordinary purpose.
’This time, I have to find a way to get my hands on those two pieces of jewelry!’
After scoping out the auction house, Chen Xing returned to her hotel.
There were still several hours to go. She didn’t need to wander around outside; it was better to go back and get some rest.
Back at the hotel, on her floor.
Chen Xing found several Black bodyguards standing outside the room she had been staying in.
Seeing someone approach, they immediately shouted warily, "Who goes there? Don’t come any closer! One more step and we won’t be so polite!"
Chen Xing was already fluent in the international common tongue. She stood her ground and said in a harmless, slightly aggrieved tone, "This is my room..."
"Don’t come any closer..." the towering bodyguard, whose head almost touched the ceiling, ignored her and repeated his warning.
Fortunately, a hotel attendant heard the commotion and hurried over, immediately explaining, "Valued customer, we are very sorry..."
The gist of it was that a top-tier VIP had booked the room in advance, and Chen Xing had to move to a different one.
He thoughtfully handed her the small bag that had already been taken from the room. "We’ve already packed your things for you!"
Chen Xing was speechless. ’Forget it!’
’This isn’t the time to cause trouble or draw attention to myself.’
She obediently followed the attendant and was relocated to the hotel next door.
This hotel was rather dirty and messy. It seemed to have been hastily cleaned, and all sorts of smells lingered in the air.
There were bloodstains on the walls, and in some places, dried bits of flesh were still stuck to them.
’Endure!’
Chen Xing didn’t even enter the room. With her backpack on, she left the hotel.
She returned to the lobby of the previous hotel.
Finding a sofa in a corner, she picked up a book and started flipping through it.
Even now, many people were checking in.
A large portion of them were buyers from various countries; Huaxia only accounted for a small fraction.
Of course, this small fraction was composed of a military force capable of shaking the entire world.
Huaxia, which had never been weak to begin with, had risen rapidly after the apocalypse.
Even the leading United States had been left far behind.
As a Huaxia person with no memory of her past, Chen Xing still felt a sliver of pride.
With people coming and going, Chen Xing saw many familiar faces.
The most ridiculous of them were Li Ruixiao and his father, who were acting like social butterflies, bowing and scraping before the leaders of various nations.
It was as if they were determined to bring complete disgrace upon Huaxia Country.
Chen Xing couldn’t be bothered to watch them any longer and shifted her gaze to another part of the lobby.
A row of sofas over there was occupied by several people.
The most eye-catching among them was a man sitting in the farthest corner, just like her.
’This man is handsome!’
He looked to be in his thirties, with refined and handsome features. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he was even better looking than Yan Junxi.
And as it happened, that beautiful face was looking right at her.
Chen Xing gave a polite nod.
The handsome man gave an arrogant nod in return, as if he were bestowing a great honor upon her.
’Oh, well.’
Chen Xing didn’t care.
If she hadn’t been worried about someone discovering who she really was, she wouldn’t have been the type to greet him first.
These people were sharp as tacks. If she acted as cold and indifferent as she used to, some of them might recognize her.
The handsome man finally looked away.
But a few seconds later, he stood up.
With an undisguised look of smug arrogance, he walked straight toward her.
Chen Xing was speechless. ’I’m already disguised as a middle-aged woman. How could anyone still notice me?’
"Hello, my name is Qin Ye!" Qin Ye casually sat down across from Chen Xing and extended his hand in a friendly gesture.
Chen Xing forced a smile and lowered her voice. "Hello!"
At first listen, it really did sound a bit like the voice of an older woman.
"I saw you sitting here alone, looking bored, so I thought I’d come chat with you!" As he spoke, the arrogant Qin Ye flashed a captivating smile.
"Oh!" Chen Xing replied awkwardly with just a single word.
’If I say too much, I’m afraid someone will recognize my voice.’
"Are you also interested in those emerald earrings?" Qin Ye didn’t seem to mind Chen Xing’s standoffishness at all.
Chen Xing was silent. ’Obviously!’
’If I wasn’t interested, why would I be here with a hundred head of cattle? For fun?’
She nodded, deliberately avoiding his gaze.
For some reason, she felt that Qin Ye’s gaze was exceptionally sharp.
It was as if it could pierce right through her.
Seeing that Chen Xing remained cold toward him, Qin Ye leaned forward, his face nearly reaching hers across the table. "Do you have any idea how familiar you look?"
