Chapter 247: Chapter 244: Controlling Zombies

Whether or not Song Yiguo would make it out alive was now up to him.

While no one was watching, Chen Xing released the wolf cub and the little dinosaur monster. They killed zombies and collected Crystal Cores amidst the horde.

Without Song Yiguo, things were much easier for her.

They were all Intermediate Zombies, so they didn’t pose much of a challenge.

But... just as she was about to break out of the zombie horde, a group of people suddenly appeared up ahead.

They looked as if they knew someone would emerge here and had been waiting for quite a while.

While the line of sight was still blocked, Chen Xing recalled the little dinosaur monster and the wolf cub to her space, breaking through the zombie horde with only Meng Hu by her side.

They seemed astonished, perhaps not expecting Chen Xing to be the only one to emerge.

Chen Xing scanned the crowd. ’Great... There have to be at least a thousand of them.’

Although she didn’t know who they were, she had no desire to make enemies of such a large group.

"I’ve parted ways with Song Yiguo!" Chen Xing hoped to talk her way out of this predicament.

But they weren’t having it.

Seeing that Chen Xing was alone with only a tiger, their killing intent flared. "Helping Song Yiguo makes you an enemy to everyone. Today, you die!"

Chen Xing was speechless. ’...Fine.’

As they spoke, the zombie horde closed in. Chen Xing spun around, cut down a few zombies, and plunged back into the horde, giving her enemies no chance to attack her.

They hadn’t expected Chen Xing to retreat back into the zombie horde.

Soon after re-entering the horde, Chen Xing realized something was wrong.

’Why aren’t these zombies attacking the Superpower Users outside?’

It was as if something was controlling the horde, making it focus solely on her.

As she released the wolf cub and the little dinosaur monster, she leaped up and glanced toward the distant troop of people.

The group of people was standing perfectly still, all except for two individuals in different poses.

One was the commander who had spoken to Chen Xing earlier, and the other was a woman in a military uniform standing beside him.

Her hands were clasped tightly at her chest, and it looked as if all the power in her body was focused into them, making her hair fly up around her.

’It must be her!’

’I’ll have to be extra careful if I run into her again.’

A few minutes later, Chen Xing had put some distance between herself and that troop.

The zombie tide no longer seemed to be under anyone’s control, and a large portion of the zombies began to converge in the direction opposite to Chen Xing.

’Whoever was controlling the zombies with their superpower must not have much stamina,’ she thought.

Amidst the zombie tide, Chen Xing’s only option was to follow the path Song Yiguo had taken.

Going in any other direction was pointless, and heading straight North was too risky.

This whole detour had already taken more than two hours.

If all had gone well, Song Yiguo and his people should have made it out of the zombie horde safely.

If no one else intercepted them, it wouldn’t be long before they could bypass the Li Family’s territory, find an airport, and leave the southern region.

But she was being far too optimistic.

On Song Yiguo’s end, it had taken them nearly two hours just to fight their way out of the zombie horde.

Not long after they got out, they ran straight into a confrontation with the Lu Family’s Superpower Users.

The two sides were evenly matched, and Song Yiguo couldn’t immediately break through.

If this dragged on, they would be the only ones at a disadvantage.

The Lu Family’s Superpower Group seemed to know this; they were only defending, not letting them pass.

Just as Vice General Du was trying every way he could to find a breakthrough, Chen Xing arrived.

Chen Xing was at a loss for words.

But after hearing they were from the Lu Family, she no longer had any reservations.

She started by tossing a few grenades into their ranks, blowing them into disarray.

From the enemy’s perspective, it was an impossible distance to throw from, yet the grenades landed accurately within their ranks.

Their previously neat and orderly ranks were instantly shattered.

At the same time, Meng Hu charged into the enemy from another side.

Seeing his chance, Vice General Du immediately led the Superpower Users in a swift assault.

The enemy’s several hundred Superpower Users were quickly routed.

Some fled, and some were killed.

An airport was just a few dozen kilometers away. Vice General Du had already contacted the Capital City after he and Chen Xing had parted ways.

An hour later, they reached the airport and boarded the plane that had just arrived for them.

Song Yiguo didn’t say a single word the entire time.

Once they reached the Capital City, Chen Xing got in her RV and left without another word.

’From now on,’ she mused, ’I’m afraid I won’t be able to use Song Yiguo so casually anymore.’

Within a day, she was back in Hualai City.

She contacted Brother Xiao.

In that short time, Ran Gaoyang’s team had already adapted to the factory complex, and everyone was getting along harmoniously.

They were expanding the factory’s existing underground base, digging deeper to create a new tunnel that could serve as an escape route in an emergency.

They had started the project right after the attack by the Migratory Clan. With so many people at the factory, the work was progressing quickly.

Aside from Captain Lu’s Superpower Group, which was in charge of everyone’s safety, the remaining men divided the labor and worked in shifts. Everyone was putting in a great deal of effort.

After all, it was for their own safety.

Hearing this, Chen Xing felt even more reassured about Brother Xiao and the people at the factory.

After dropping off the Crystal Cores she had recently collected at the trading post, she picked up the commission Brother Xiao had prepared for her in advance and left.

After wandering for so long, it was time for her to find a place to settle down.

Advanced Zombies would become more common soon. If she kept roaming, she would inevitably run into hordes, and it would be a huge disadvantage if her RV couldn’t pick up enough speed.

She had to find a place to hide out for a while, before the zombies finished evolving.

Once people had adapted to the Advanced Zombies and figured out the best ways to kill them, she could come out of hiding. By then, the zombie infestation hopefully wouldn’t be quite so rampant.

She didn’t have a specific destination in mind.

None of the places she’d been to so far were particularly satisfying.

The northern and southern regions both had their own power players, making life difficult for ordinary people.

Western Huaxia was too arid, and desertification was severe. If conditions worsened, it would become difficult to even drive a car.

For the time being, she set her sights on eastern Huaxia.

The air quality was better in the east compared to the west.

There were more rivers, and it bordered the sea. If she could find a suitable residence, it would be a good place to live long-term.

But... she was only halfway there when her journey was cut short by a phone call.

The call was from Mr. Li.

The old man’s voice was filled with endless grief, sounding as if he had aged a great deal. "Feibai... he’s dead..."

Then, for a long moment, he couldn’t speak.

Chen Xing felt an indescribable emotion.

’Just as I thought. Li Feibai died, just like in my past life.’

She hadn’t spent much time with Li Feibai, but he was the kind of person with such a strong presence that he had already carved out a small space in her memory. It was hard to remain completely unmoved.

’But... I remember the Li Family didn’t completely fall until about two years into the apocalypse. This seems a little early, doesn’t it?’

Mr. Li wanted to ask Chen Xing to come and see his grandson one last time.

Chen Xing agreed, immediately turning her RV around and heading south.

She wasn’t going just to see Li Feibai; she wanted to confirm something.

’Was Li Feibai’s death connected to Song Yiguo?’

In her past life, the Li Family had been brutally massacred just days after Li Feibai’s death. Mr. Li had managed to survive, but his end was a miserable one.

That wasn’t the most important part, however. The key was that after that event, the entire internet had collapsed.

So, she had no way of knowing if that was when Song Yiguo had turned to the dark side.

In this life, whether Song Yiguo turned out to be good or evil would directly affect her future. She couldn’t afford to ignore it.
