Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 234 - 231: Damn, I Almost Got Scorched
Chapter 234: Chapter 231: Damn, I Almost Got Scorched
He was afraid. Truly afraid!
Even though Chen Xing protected him with the utmost care, after watching people just like him die one by one, he was truly terrified!
He didn’t want to be afraid anymore!
00002’s lips moved. "I am sorry!" The three words were never spoken aloud.
He knew he was letting Chen Xing down by giving up, but he had no courage left.
Especially after absorbing the Superpower Fire, he could already feel his body growing restless and uncontrollable.
He would have to take this step sooner or later!
And so, to everyone’s shock and disbelief, the flames around 00002’s body began to expand, instantly engulfing the man who had been playing dead.
However, the flames bypassed Chen Xing, Li Feibai and his companions, and even Song Yiguo and his Superpower Team, who had just arrived nearby.
remembered who had been kind to him. During their time in the National Capital Safety Zone, it had always been Song Yiguo’s Superpower Team that protected them.
The flames expanded outward as if to devour everything.
Yet, the people standing within the inferno felt no heat at all.
The fire swept across the ruins, setting even the dust ablaze.
Chen Xing watched as another person who shared her fate vanished like dust.
Wasn’t she afraid?
Shaking her head, Chen Xing turned to look back at the massive fire.
’Fear solves nothing!’
About two minutes later, the flames vanished in an instant.
If not for the lingering smell of something burnt, one might have thought there had been no fire at all.
Fuck!
Song Yiguo felt an overwhelming urge to curse.
He had almost been fucking incinerated.
Witnessing it firsthand was a completely different experience from hearing Chen Xing describe it. "Was he also one of the escapees from the Lu Family Research Institute?" That kind of power... it was simply unbelievable.
They could control who they killed, but they couldn’t control their own bodies.
If someone with these abilities could use their power and survive, what would the consequences be?
The Lu Family’s ambition was truly immense.
For all these years, the Lu Family’s true strength had been overlooked. No one knew they were lurking in the background, orchestrating so many things.
He no longer dared to call himself the leader of Huaxia.
Chen Xing’s sorrow was fleeting. She returned to her usual iciness and nodded.
She walked over and picked up the number tag: 26487.
She had never even given 00002 a name.
"Lu Bingtian..." Unlike Chen Xing, Song Yiguo was worried. With the Lu Family’s ambitions being so vast, he needed to re-evaluate his plans.
Clearly, he might not be a match for the Lu Family in a direct confrontation.
Look at these test subjects they had. Not a single one could be underestimated.
And this was when the Lu Family’s experiments were still considered failures. If they ever succeeded with even one subject, then even Superpower Users like them might not be able to resist.
"Chen Xing, I think we can cooperate!" Song Yiguo decided instantly.
He would cooperate with Chen Xing to uproot the Lu Family as quickly as possible.
Chen Xing was just as direct. "If you have news on the Lu Family, let me know anytime."
She glanced at her RV, then turned to Song Yiguo. "Can you help me get the glass on my RV fixed as soon as possible?"
"Done!" Song Yiguo immediately turned to find someone to handle the repairs.
Seeing Song Yiguo preoccupied, Li Feibai sidled quietly up to Chen Xing. "What’s your relationship with Song Yiguo?" he asked.
"We don’t have one." Chen Xing wasn’t surprised that Li Feibai knew Song Yiguo.
Across the entire country, the "test subjects" were probably the only ones who didn’t know who Song Yiguo was.
Li Feibai watched Chen Xing, completely unconvinced. Then, something clicked. "Right, right... I remember you! You’re Song Yiguo’s rumored girlfriend from a few months ago, aren’t you?"
"Song Yiguo and I have a cooperative relationship," Chen Xing said, surprised that anyone still remembered that rumor.
Li Feibai pursed his lips.
The safety zone itself was fine; they just needed to clear the entrance and exit.
In less than an hour, the entrance and exit were repaired, and the glass on Chen Xing’s RV had been installed.
With the test subjects gone, Chen Xing no longer had to escort anyone.
She asked Da Bai and Hong Hui to take her travel trailer back to the factory area, bringing Sister Ping with them.
Chen Xing didn’t linger any longer and drove straight north.
Naturally, Li Feibai followed her.
Only after Chen Xing’s and Li Feibai’s vehicles had disappeared from view did Song Yiguo belatedly ask Vice General Du, "Where have I seen that guy in the sports car before?"
He had been too busy to pay the man any attention.
Vice General Du was even busier than Song Yiguo; how could he possibly have noticed him?
It was a journey of over three hundred kilometers, and Chen Xing sped the entire way.
She reached the Buddha City region in about three hours.
The Migratory Clan’s den was near the national highway on the north side of Buddha City; you could find it by looking for a large Buddha statue.
The highway ran through the eastern part of Buddha City, and she had to exit via a large roundabout.
Although the roundabout wasn’t the center of Buddha City, it was a major junction with roads leading in multiple directions. Before the apocalypse, it must have been a busy area.
As soon as Chen Xing’s RV entered the roundabout, it attracted a horde of zombies.
However, these zombies were on the upper end of the Intermediate level and hadn’t yet evolved to High Level.
Chen Xing floored the accelerator and plowed through the zombie horde.
Li Feibai, following behind her, was not so lucky.
The horde of zombies instantly blocked his path.
Left with no choice, he had to wrench his car into a U-turn on the narrow road.
By the time he shook off the zombies and returned to the roundabout, Chen Xing was nowhere to be seen.
He also knew the general location of the Migratory Clan’s base, so he could only continue north to search.
Meanwhile, Chen Xing had already spotted the giant Buddha statue and gotten out of her RV to survey the area.
At a glance, she spotted a cattle farm east of the statue.
It looked like an abandoned cattle farm at first glance.
However, the grass here was much shorter than in the surrounding areas, and an anti-theft fence still stood around the cattle pen’s perimeter.
In the center of the property was a single, long, one-story building.
A few hundred meters farther east, beyond that farm, was another similar structure and farmstead, but the grass there was wildly overgrown.
And hidden in that tall grass was a path, almost impossible to see without looking carefully.
Although it was said that the seasons changed every few days, whenever the temperature rose, the plants would shoot up as if on fertilizer, growing incredibly tall in just a day or two.
Chen Xing now had a good idea of the situation. She drove her RV to a more concealed spot off to the side and slipped into the tall grass.
The grass was tall enough to come up past her neck; she only had to duck her head slightly to be completely concealed within it.
She headed straight for the cattle farm where the grass was overgrown.
Swaying under the hot sun, the overgrown weeds looked as if they might swallow her whole.
Soon, she reached the building hidden within the sea of grass.
Faintly, she could smell the scent of cow manure.
Meng Hu, trailing behind her, was in a state of excitement, its unique predatory senses on high alert for other animals.
But even as she opened the door to the first room, there was no human sound.
Inside, only a few small calves were leisurely wagging their tails.
There were many doors, but they led to only two rooms.
One was a cattle pen; the other contained a large, heated kang-style bed.
A camera hidden in a dark corner of the pen told her that something was strange about this place.
After routinely smashing the camera, Chen Xing collected all the calves.
Just as she stepped out of the building, she saw an object fly from a distance and land on the roof.
A bomb!
In an instant, Chen Xing dove into the tall grass, burying herself where she couldn’t be reached.
