Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse

Chapter 141 - 138: Attacked on Both Sides

Chapter 141: Chapter 138: Attacked on Both Sides

If they didn’t quickly dispose of these bodies, which had yet to mutate into long-haired monsters, they would be facing a difficult battle.

So, the Superpower Users all swarmed in and began to finish them off.

The attire of many of the corpses was different from that of Roman Country’s soldiers, a clear sign they weren’t from Roman Country.

"Could they be soldiers from Baling Country, left behind to protect the seeds?"

These bodies were all heavily clothed; they were likely the original stationed troops.

However, if this was the entire force guarding the place, they were grossly underestimating the importance of the seed bank.

Especially after the apocalypse, everyone wanted to get something to stave off hunger.

Besides livestock and poultry, seeds were of course indispensable.

Although many areas could still be farmed, and plants could even be seen growing in the fields, who would dare to eat them?

Who could guarantee that anything from the outside wasn’t contaminated?

With these seeds in hand, not only could you find a safe place to plant them, but you could also sell them to other countries for a high price, which would generate a substantial income.

"This must only be a fraction of their forces!" Song Yiguo estimated after a quick look; there were only a few dozen bodies. "Either there’s an extremely powerful Superpower User inside, or it’s full of long-haired monsters!"

For a place like this, even if they didn’t station an entire battalion, there should have been at least a few hundred people.

The corridor ahead was like a large space capsule, so dazzlingly white that you couldn’t quite see its end.

The walls were lined with glass panels, and the glare was tiring on the eyes.

Vice General Du was at the very front, remaining constantly vigilant.

GRAAAWR... A beast-like roar echoed from up ahead.

Meng Hu, who had been held back by Chen Xing and was itching for a fight, could no longer contain itself upon hearing the roar. It let out an even more earth-shaking roar in response.

Chen Xing: "..."

’What the hell is it trying to have a shouting match with?’

"Just stay put and hide!" No longer minding Meng Hu, she instantly dashed forward.

She reached the large white door at almost the same time as Vice General Du, who was at the front.

The door was completely sealed, making it impossible to see inside.

"Sounds like a beast?" Vice General Du said, placing his hand on the door’s rotating handle.

Chen Xing nodded.

Just as both of them were focused on what lay behind it, the heavy, white iron door suddenly emitted a loud BANG, and a large dent caved inward.

The impact startled even Chen Xing, making her heart race.

Vice General Du felt a sharp, vibrating pain shoot through the hand he had on the handle.

"What kind of monster has so much strength?" His hand remained numb for a good while.

Just then, another loud THUD came from the door, followed by a series of rapid impacts.

Before their very eyes, the massive iron door, nearly fifty centimeters thick, was being battered until it was on the verge of collapsing.

Through the narrow cracks that had appeared, they could see something white and fluffy.

They couldn’t get a clear look, but they could tell it was a creature like the long-haired monsters.

"Everyone, fall back!" Chen Xing shouted as she darted to the side, pressing herself against the wall next to the door.

At that same moment, the monster inside battered the door clean off its hinges.

Everyone: "..."

In the stark white corridor, the white long-haired monster was all the more dazzling. Its massive body leaped through the doorway.

It spotted Vice General Du, who was the closest, and lunged at him with its long claws.

Though its main attack came from its claws, the monster was also clever. Seemingly aware that one attack might not be enough, every single hair on its body stood on end.

"Is this thing a mutated polar bear?" Chen Xing asked, looking completely at ease now that she had a moment to spare.

As she spoke, she reached into her backpack, pulled out a thin metal wire, and expertly threw it around the long-haired monster’s neck. With a sharp tug, she yanked the creature, which had been attacking Vice General Du, right in front of her.

The gun in her hand was already pressed to the monster’s head by the time it was yanked over. With a quick BANG! BANG!, she dispatched the creature.

Her series of actions had looked effortless, but to the onlookers, it was as fast as lightning. They hadn’t even been able to see how she moved.

The entire sequence was as smooth as flowing water—simple and swift.

"There’s another one..." Song Yiguo, who was watching from a distance, had just begun to relax when he saw another monster charge out of the doorway.

As the monster closed in behind Chen Xing, everyone broke into a cold sweat. They didn’t dare to unleash their superpowers, fearing they might accidentally hit her.

It looked to them like Chen Xing was done for.

But who would have thought—the young woman wasn’t the least bit nervous. She spun halfway around while rapidly backing away, her gun firing off several shots. BANG! BANG! BANG!

The monster, the size of two men, fell from its charge and hit the floor with a thud that shook the ground.

The Superpower Users: "..." ’So damn cool!’

"A horde of monsters is coming!" Chen Xing had no time to rest.

A chaotic mess of footsteps echoed from deeper within—there had to be at least several hundred monsters.

There was no way to close the door now; they could only fight.

The Water Ability Users moved up together, unleashing torrents of water to halt the advance of the long-haired monsters.

Lightning strikes, ice pillars, and sniper fire followed from the rear.

Surprisingly, they actually managed to block the monsters’ charge.

Now, Chen Xing could finally relax a little; she wasn’t needed for the moment.

She stood off to the side with Meng Hu and Song Yiguo, watching the battle unfold.

"These look like the soldiers who were guarding the base!" Song Yiguo, with his sharp eyes, suddenly noticed the rank insignia on one of the monster’s uniforms. "That one looks like a Lieutenant General from the United States!"

"Are you saying that while this base is ostensibly run by Baling Country, it’s actually under the control of the United States?"

"That old scoundrel Kelin probably strong-armed Baya and just took it by force!"

It was nothing new for Kelin to be plundering resources and seizing territory all over the world.

Moreover, after the apocalypse, the power imbalances between nations had become even more extreme. How could Kelin possibly pass up such a prime opportunity for a heist?

"It’s just, that old scoundrel Kelin would never have imagined that his meticulous plans would be foiled by mutated long-haired monsters, would he?" Song Yiguo said with a vicious sense of satisfaction.

’The long-haired monsters had, in a way, vented his anger for him over being hunted in the Capital City.’

Chen Xing peered deeper inside. Quite a few more monsters were still pouring out, and it looked like there were still a lot more.

Meanwhile, back at the entrance door, it seemed someone was trying to force their way in.

They were now caught between two enemy forces.

Chen Xing glanced around. The area was quite spacious.

"Everyone split to the sides! Water users to the front, block the monsters!" Just as Chen Xing was about to speak, Song Yiguo shouted the orders.

The Superpower Users instantly split to either side, opening up a corridor down the middle.

The penned-up monsters immediately surged forward, originally trying to attack the people behind the jets of water.

However, as the rear entrance opened and another squad of soldiers entered, the monsters’ attention was successfully diverted.

Once the horde of monsters was focused on the group at the rear, the people at the front began to run deeper inside.

Of course, the Water Ability Users continued to cover their retreat, leaving the monsters to the foreign troops that had just entered.

The temperature inside dropped noticeably. Some of the soldiers were already holding hands for warmth.

This was a narrow corridor, just over ten meters wide.

The large door ahead stood open, revealing two neat rows of metal containers.

It seemed this was the objective of their mission.

Chen Xing’s hand extended naturally.
