Chapter 142 - 139: Seed Bank
Chapter 142: Chapter 139: Seed Bank
The moment Chen Xing’s hand touched the metal box, she sensed what was inside.
They were all seeds.
She had no memories and had never farmed before. Her only knowledge of seeds came from pictures online and the small stock she currently had on hand.
Identifying the seeds was beyond her ability.
’I’ll just take them first!’
She didn’t hold back. Wherever her hand passed, she cleaned the boxes out completely.
’Besides, Song Yiguo and the others won’t know who took them.’
’Didn’t they say there were twelve million kinds of seeds?’
’Even Song Yiguo can’t take them all.’
’Leaving them behind would just mean they’d go to Kelin. I might as well do everyone a favor and clean them out.’
The boxes were lined up side by side. As long as her hand touched one in a connected row, all of them fell under her control.
With a single sweep, she completely emptied a huge section.
Song Yiguo and the others felt the entrance wasn’t safe, so out of habit, they headed deeper inside.
This freed Chen Xing up to clear everything out without a second thought.
But this seed vault was enormous.
After finally making their way deeper inside, they discovered another door.
Due to the situation outside, they decided to go in first.
As if following Song Yiguo’s lead, Chen Xing nonchalantly reached out and touched another row of metal boxes.
In an instant, the contents of the boxes on the opposite shelves vanished into her space.
She then followed them into the next storage room.
The sight inside was spectacular.
Countless rows of metal boxes were stacked in neat arrays.
Even without a command from Song Yiguo, Vice General Du and the others knew to start trying to open the metal boxes.
However, they had underestimated the task.
The metal boxes seemed to be welded shut, and it took a great deal of time just to open one.
During this time, Chen Xing didn’t stay idle. She continued to explore deeper inside.
’Since Song Yiguo’s men are busy here, I’ll generously leave this room to them. I can go check out the rooms farther in.’
There was another door up ahead, and this one was open as well.
Looking straight ahead from her position, she could see a door every few dozen meters. There were at least several more.
’They’re all wide open. There must be something inside.’
Chen Xing looked back at Song Yiguo and the others.
She saw that they weren’t paying her any mind.
She skipped two rooms before heading deeper inside to begin her massive harvest.
’Those two storage rooms, plus the one Song Yiguo’s group is in now... if they can clear them all out, good for them.’
Chen Xing started to move faster.
’I have to take as much as I can before we leave. I’m not leaving a single thing for Kelin.’
She had no proof, but she was certain that Kelin’s people were among those hunting her.
By the time she had cleared out the very last room, Song Yiguo and his men were still laboriously working on the first one.
It wasn’t that they weren’t trying; the things were just too damn hard to open.
The metal boxes were too big and heavy to move, so taking the seeds from inside was the only practical option.
After clearing out the last room, Chen Xing saw that Song Yiguo’s group was still completely ignoring her, so she reached out and opened the only door that was shut tight.
As the door opened, a sudden wave of hot air washed over her.
It was accompanied by an unbearable, putrid stench.
Chen Xing covered her nose, pulled out a mask, and put it on before looking inside.
The dim room was also filled with metal boxes, stacked several meters high from the floor.
And on top of those metal boxes, a wide variety of plants grew in thick profusion.
Some of the plants near the ceiling looked as if they were about to burst right through it.
There was something about the way these plants grew...
...that was just unsettling.
Chen Xing did not step inside.
The stench was apparently so foul that even Meng Hu, who always stuck close to Chen Xing, took a few steps back.
Just as Chen Xing was about to close the door and forget about whatever was in this room, something poked its head out from the plants by the doorway, right in front of her.
Chen Xing...
She almost cursed out loud.
It was a python with a head as big as her own.
Its eyes were blood-red, and it flicked its long, forked tongue.
The tip of its tongue nearly brushed against Chen Xing.
It was no wonder Chen Xing had let her guard down. The creature had no feet; it could approach without making a single sound.
Chen Xing took a steadying breath and fired a shot at its head.
But the massive python was surprisingly agile. It dodged with a tilt of its head and lunged at Chen Xing again, its long tongue flicking.
Chen Xing was repulsed by the creature; otherwise, she wouldn’t have wasted a bullet on it.
Since the gun was ineffective, she’d have to use her knife.
But before she could charge forward, Meng Hu leaped past her and clamped its jaws down on the massive python’s head.
The massive python that even Chen Xing had struggled with was instantly obliterated in Meng Hu’s maw.
Its long tail was still thrashing about, trying to strike at Meng Hu in its death throes, but a single press from the tiger’s paw crushed it, bones and all.
"Attaboy!"
Rarely so pleased with itself, Meng Hu spat out the python’s head, as if to show off its prize.
But a second later, its body swayed, and it collapsed with a THUD.
’Damn it!’
Chen Xing’s heart leaped into her throat; Meng Hu looked like it had been poisoned.
She glanced back toward Song Yiguo’s group, but couldn’t see them.
With no time to think, Chen Xing pulled Meng Hu directly into her space and placed it in the spring water.
The unconscious Meng Hu finally started breathing again.
Seeing it would be all right, Chen Xing breathed a sigh of relief.
’Looks like it won’t recover right away. I’ll have to come up with a lie later.’
This place was dangerous. Chen Xing had no intention of exploring any further.
She closed the door behind her.
She quickly headed back toward Song Yiguo and his group.
The metal boxes had stumped the group of Superpower Users.
Seeing this, Chen Xing had no choice but to help.
She grabbed a box and gave it a sharp tug. A box that should have required various tools to pry open popped open with ease.
Song Yiguo and his men didn’t have time to be surprised.
A good amount of time had already passed, yet they had opened less than a third of the metal boxes in the room.
From then on, Chen Xing was in charge of opening the boxes, while Song Yiguo’s people were in charge of collecting the contents.
While each metal box didn’t contain a huge amount of seeds, the total added up to a considerable sum.
After just one storage room, the Superpower Users’ bags were already full.
"We miscalculated. We should have brought more people!" But it was too late for regrets.
Song Yiguo had them clear out one more large storage room before deciding to give up on the rest.
He was reluctant to leave so much behind, but they couldn’t carry everything. More importantly, being weighed down would put them at a disadvantage if a fight broke out.
When Chen Xing saw them stop collecting, she used the excuse of looking for Meng Hu to enter the next storage room. With a simple wave of her hand, she took the rest of the seeds.
Seeing her emerge alone, Vice General Du asked, "Where’s your Meng Hu?"
"I don’t know. It’ll find me later." ’Meng Hu has already recovered a lot in my space. As long as I let it out before we board the plane, it’ll be fine.’
Vice General Du was speechless. ’Her precious companion is missing, and she’s that calm?’
’If it were me, I’d be worried sick!’
Song Yiguo was worried about the seeds and didn’t ask further questions. The group returned the way they came.
They had scouted the area before entering and knew there was only one way in or out. They would have to face the long-haired monsters again.
When they first entered, there hadn’t been that many long-haired monsters.
But they had been inside for several hours at least. The monsters outside had probably swarmed the entrance by now.
