Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 339: Scented With Everything You Don’t Say
[FROLO]
Romanov Steel was quiet despite the chaos in the city over the arson and even their son’s ex-boyfriend. As time went by, they were busy working on the projects, running like any functional corporation in the city.
Inside the research room was a mid-level new Romanov researcher doing his job like everyone else. He’d been scolded a little earlier by one of his superiors, and instead of pulling rank, he’d apologized and met expectations.
It came as a surprise, really, seeing as he was easily the most powerful person in Frolo.
Even more than the devil of Frolo himself.
Speaking of the devil of Frolo, a few floors above the research floor was a chairman’s office. One that everyone had learned the hard way not to be summoned into.
Mr. Romanov was an old man who wanted to retire, and his Michka had declined the position for over ten years now.
His son wanted to be free, which he wasn’t even opposed to.
But now, there was a man dressed in all black, a mask on his face, like he was thinking he’d never be found. He had walked right in without any weapons, without anything that could have him flagged at the entrance.
Frankly, there was nothing to flag.
He was clean.
Very clean.
Save for the simple fact that he was far too dangerous without weapons than when he carried any.
He was currently seated opposite Mr. Romanov, a scowl settling on the old man’s face as he stared, disappointment written all over his face like he was wondering if the afterlife was really that bad an option.
Mr. Romanov knew for a fact that if it wasn’t for the scolding his son had gotten, he wouldn’t even have known that there was a huge barbarian on the premises growling at people who touched his son.
"You are wasting my time, Sergei. What the hell are you here?" Mr. Romanov asked tiredly. He let out an exhausted sigh, as if this was not what he had woken up thinking he would deal with.
His son had really looked at all the normal people in the realm and decided to fall in love with this bottom-tier madman who had no sense other than the fact that he was in love with Katya Romanov.
Gods, Mr. Romanov was tired.
So very tired.
"I can explain," Sergei said, not even minding the fact that this old man hadn’t called him Mr. Moskowsky.
Then again, seeing the way he was dressed like a goon who had come to infiltrate the research floor, he did not deserve any honors. He looked like he deserved to be locked away forever and never let out.
Because this man was insane.
Mr. Romanov had long known it, even when his son had come home covered in the barbarian’s marks, but right now he was really contemplating shooting this man in the head and doing everyone a favor.
But then Katya would be sad. And Mr. Romanov never wanted to see his son unhappy, even if it meant that his happiness was unfortunately linked to this lunatic.
"You have been saying that for the past twenty minutes. And haven’t explained anything," Mr. Romanov said, grabbing his staff and pointing it disappointedly at Sergei, whose head was bowed occasionally.
The alpha didn’t look like what Frolo was terrified of.
Hell, his people had just thrown the city into chaos, and the genius had decided sneaking into Romanov Steel was the best way to start his morning.
"I came to bring him breakfast," Sergei said, staring at the backpack that was now open and that had stacks of containers. Containers that had really warm food.
This barbarian had crossed the city to come offer breakfast to the son of a man who clearly did not like him.
"Are you insane?" Mr. Romanov huffed, not relenting.
He knew Sergei was in love with his son in the kind of way that was so unhealthy and healthy at the same time, but surely this man had limits too, right?
"It’s our routine," the alpha sighed quietly, like it was his greatest defense.
"Do you think Romanov Steel does not have food for my son to eat? That there are no shops nearby? That there are no services in the building for my Mishka to be consuming?" Mr. Romanov asked.
Sergei knew he was in trouble.
He had known it the moment he had run away from the company despite lying to Anya that he was going to run to the park. The same park that he and Anya had been banned from.
Anya had known it was a different truth for Sergei, but now here the barbarian was. Getting a scolding from one of the few men he couldn’t ever snap at.
But he meant well, right?
"But he never eats breakfast, Mr. Ro—" Sergei said as he looked at the alpha, only to sigh in defeat.
"I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to. I was going to stay on the side, really, because Solnyshka was already being corrected, and I would have probably done the same to my subordinate.
"But... that man didn’t have to touch him to make a point. He could correct him without getting all touchy," Sergei explained like it was the most rational explanation he had for the old man who looked like he was about to swat his head off.
Gods, he was screwed, but was he even complaining right now?
"So let me get this straight, hmm? You came from your company that is miles away. To bring my son breakfast. Found him being corrected by his superior. Broke the said superior’s nose because he TOUCHED my son?" Mr. Romanov asked.
Then again, in the middle of the ridiculousness, he couldn’t even be as mad because if he had seen someone putting hands on his son, he would have lost it.
But Sergei hadn’t just laid a hand on the superior.
He had broken the man’s nose. Twice.
Casually snapped it back when Katya demanded he step out.
"He has a weak nose... I didn’t even punch him as hard," Sergei said, like the man didn’t have to clock out of work and go to the hospital because his nose couldn’t stop bleeding.
"Mr. Moskowsky," Mr. Romanov began, and Sergei stared at him softly before speaking.
"Sergei... Mr. Romanov. Just Sergei," the barbarian said, like that was a very distinctive correction that he had to make before things got out of hand.
"Sergei," Mr. Romanov breathed in deeply, as he had never once seen this kind of madness, even with Svet and Andre and those two psychics who were very protective of Katya.
"Yes, sir," the devil of Frolo said, sitting upright.
"You will cover the man’s medical expenses," Mr. Romanov began, and Sergei let out a groan.
"He touched Solnyshka... If you ask me, he deserved it and more. Maybe I should have snapped his neck and made him feel what I was feeling in the moment. No one touches my Solnyshka...
"You know, Solnyshka was just standing there taking the scolding, and he was the one who started getting touchy. That waist is mine to touch. So I respectfully object to paying the damages," Sergei said like he was stating the obvious.
He hadn’t even realized how possessive he sounded to Mr. Romanov at the moment.
And Mr. Romanov...
"This fucking maniac," he sighed as he stared at the unapologetic Sergei.
"I’m sorry for not coming like a proper man... but also people would spend time avoiding me rather than focusing on their jobs. I was trying to blend in," Sergei explained, as if that was the only thing he had regrets about.
"So you came in dressed in all black and thought you would hide in a steel company and punch my researchers?" Mr. Romanov asked, and Sergei stared apologetically.
"I’ll go and—"
"Get out."
"But Solny—"
"Take the food to him and be gone from my premises, or I’ll have Andre explain Romanov Steel policy to you," Mr. Romanov said, making Sergei look at the door where Andre was standing, struggling to hold back his laughter.
"That’s unf—"
"Out!!!"
"It wasn’t even that bad," the alpha mumbled as he walked with his containers.
In the hallway, Svet, Andre, and Katya stared at him, holding back their laughter.
"The devil of Frolo indeed," Svet snorted, reaching to grab the containers from Sergei.
The alpha didn’t let go.
"Are you hungry... alpha?" Katya said, making his friends groan at his tone.
And Sergei...
"Always."
"Oh, I’m calling Papa Romanov... Mr. Romanov!" Andre shouted, making Sergei whisk Katya away.
