Chapter 297: Gods Save The Six-Foot Prom Queen

[FROLO]

The Moskowsky surveillance room had its first breakthrough since the explosion. And it didn’t look good. At all. So, they watched the footage.

Once. Twice.

Enough times to come to the same conclusion.

The chairman had been set up.

Not just by anyone...

But by his boyfriend.

Senator Aleksandr was the source of the explosion.

"Miss Anya, do we send this to Mr. Moskowsky?" Volkov asked as he stared at the footage again. It was crazy how things had happened, and frankly, it made absolutely no sense.

"Not yet. Sergei needs to rest. We both know he will not rest once he starts chasing this. Let him have a few more days with Romanov," Anya said, like she wasn’t even surprised Alek had turned out to be the source of the explosion.

Everything was just crazy, and frankly, it made absolutely no sense for the senator to try to incriminate his own boyfriend.

As Anya stared, she couldn’t help but note the difference between the good senator and the man Frolo had nightmares about.

They were both in love with the same person, yet one of them hurt the person they loved. The other was simply glad the person was alive.

It was a crazy contrast because at the end of the day, there was no telling really what was what, other than the obvious fact that Sergei would burn Frolo before he let someone burn Katya.

"The footage has been scrubbed, Miss Anya," Volkov said, and Anya snorted at him.

"Which footage?" she asked.

They’d been scrubbing over so much footage over the past five days that it was hard to keep track of what was even happening.

"The Kenzo file," Volkov said.

"Alright, shift it to the big screen. My feet already hurt from too much standing," Anya huffed as she grabbed a seat.

However, the moment the video started playing, the door to what was easily the most secure surveillance room opened, and through it came two very pissed alphas.

"I tried to stop them, Miss Anya," Rahim said as she held her bleeding nose.

"So, you were bested?" Anya asked boredly.

"She’s crazy," Rahim said quietly as she looked at the woman she was talking about.

"Svetlana Vasilieva and Andre Stepanov... To what do I owe the displeasure of having you in my surveillance room?" Anya asked like she didn’t have time for whatever shenanigans the Romanov camp was coming with.

She had just learned that the senator was a traitor and that Katya was innocent, and she needed to figure out a way to stall without Sergei knowing she was stalling. It was the downside of the efficiency that Sergei had made sure existed in this team.

Now it was about to work against her, and she didn’t quite appreciate the madness these two were coming with either way.

"We nee—" Svet began, and Anya sighed.

"Romanov is with Sergei. You have the access codes to the penthouse. There is no place for both of you. Now, if you would be so kind as to get the fuck out because my patience isn’t exactly having any hold lately," Anya said as she rubbed her temple.

She had been working hard, as did everyone in this room, and they were desperate for a break, which wouldn’t happen if they had interruptions that they were not expecting.

"The video was fake. Did you guys trace the source yet? It sent us to a lower district restaurant for the bratva. But there’s no one there now. The fucking cowards ditched.

"So, what is your plan to clear my friend’s name?" Svetlana asked like she didn’t give a shit if Anya was pissed or feeling giddy today.

She needed answers, and she needed to be sure her friend was safe because frankly, so much had happened, and while she trusted Sergei and the Moskowsky network, she needed to be ready to defend her friend.

Sergei already had his own fair share of enemies, and Katya inheriting that bunch of psychos wasn’t exactly the greatest romantic pitch for Svet.

"Listen here, yo—" Anya began, but Andre interrupted her.

"You have thirty highly trained mercs in here if we count Rahim too. They can hold their own, I’m sure. But if I take out eight and Svet takes out another eight, you’ll be down sixteen mercs by the time the bells;

"...or alarms or whatever the fuck your system sounds will go off. We can fight all day if it’s a fight you want to bring our way. Or we can both work together to clear Romanov’s name.

"Your secrets don’t interest us. Our interest is the damn bratva that keeps coming after my friend because he’s fucking in love with the crazy Moskowsky.

"What do you think, Miss Anya Kavinsky?" Andre said, his tone flat like this was not just about asking whether Katya woke up and was smiling anymore.

This went beyond the grace they could extend to the Moskowskys because Sergei was the reason Katya was a target. They knew it. All of them. It was pointless standing here and pretending like the omega was targeted because he loved the senator.

Sergei was the target, and the Romanov camp felt insulted that their friend was being used to settle scores because the madman loved the omega.

It was something that they would not let go by with ease, and they could either fight and lose everything in the process, or they could work together.

That was what the duo was suggesting.

But would it make any sense?

Would it work for them eventually?

"I won’t ask again," Anya said flatly, and Volkov looked at her and then at the duo that was determined to stay in here.

"Fine. Looks like we’ll fight our way to you then," Andre said, and Anya rolled her eyes at them.

"Don’t hurt them too badly. I don’t want Sergei strangling you for hurting his precious omega’s friends," Anya said to her team.

Volkov and Rahim sighed, not sure if this was how to solve things, but at the end of the day, they were soldiers.

And a command had been given.

They could not defy it.

And so, the fight began.

Two crazy alphas from the Romanov camp against a group of thirty mercs trained to the core by Sergei Moskowsky.

Oh, this was going to be a long day, but damn was it one that they would just have to fight their way through.

"No hard feelings. You guys know that, right?" Volkov said as he began fighting Andre while Rahim fought Svet. What looked like a one-on-one soon turned into a battlefield with only two people trying to work their way through.

Would they make it through?

Then again, they fought. All of them.

For the next hour, the surveillance room of the Moskowsky HQ was filled with guns being fired and blades being targeted.

Some hit targets, some didn’t. The torn tactical gear was beginning to be the norm in the room that had the most well-trained set of betas in the city at the moment.

Some ended up hurt more than they should because they couldn’t dodge in time, while others kept the fight going even when they were hurt.

Others pulled back and sat against the walls, because they were too hurt to keep going, while others, with their bruised ribs and bloody knuckles, still stayed.

It was messy.

Crazy.

And Anya sat staring...

Only that she wasn’t just staring.

She was judging their moves.

Andre and Svetlana.

She was watching them fight, like she wanted to know what lengths they would go. Like this was some sort of test to see if they could endure.

The wolves in the surveillance room were all betas who couldn’t be subdued by alpha pheromones; not because they were immune, but because Sergei had trained them to resist.

For a moment, Anya wondered if the duo would rely on their pheromones instead of their skills.

They didn’t.

If anything, they were giving it their all. And their stamina was damn impressive.

They could hold their own for so long, and it was something that intrigued Anya. They were showing that they had skills and class and would not bend to manipulating people to get their desired results.

By the second hour, the surveillance room looked like it had been nuked. If it weren’t for the fact that this wasn’t the main room, then so much data would have been lost.

Then again, Sergei Moskowsky always had contingencies.

Because beyond the walls of what looked so simple was the entire surveillance network.

The one that still, even to this day, recorded feeds from the senator’s house and the penthouse Katya lived in before the explosion.

"I told you, we can do this all day," Andre said by the third hour.

"Yeah, us too," Volkov said like he was having fun.

Well, he was.

Until...

"Aren’t you tired of testing their abilities? It’s been three hours already. There won’t be a checkmate anytime soon," Sergei huffed as he casually came through the doors, unfazed that he was walking right into a battlefield.

"It’s fun watching them rage," was all Anya said, looking at the alpha who had been sleeping for twenty-six hours.

"How are you feeling?"

"Solnyshka slept with me... then he kissed me again," the alpha chuckled excitedly, a sheepish smile on his face.

"Okay, hold on... we get that you’re well-trained. This is far more important," Svet said, stopping the fight on her end.

"Consider this a truce for now," Andre added before he turned to his friend, ignoring the confused stares from the Moskowsky mercs.

"Pay up," Andre said, and Volkov couldn’t help but snort at the absurdity of it all.

"This old bastard is costing me money, fuck!" Svet grumbled before she reached into her pocket and handed Andre twenty bucks.

Turning to Anya, Andre spoke again.

"We can continue fighting... or are you going to let us in?"
