Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]

Chapter 294: Sometimes It Was Better To Judge The Cover

[FROLO]

The city of Frolo was still walking on thin ice.

It had been four days since the explosion had occurred in the Moskowsky building, and there wasn’t much that could be said of the investigations.

If anything, the operations at Moskowsky were going on like there had never been an explosion on their research and development floor. It was like they didn’t have an incapacitated chairman who no one even knew where he was at the moment.

Some said he was at the Romanov manor, healing while waiting for his trial at the hands of Sergei Moskowsky.

Others said Katya Romanov had healed and fled the city.

Some said the senator was protecting him because they were in cahoots to destroy the Moskowsky empire. It was all the same thing for these four days.

Yet no one had seen either party involved.

Yaroslav, who had been seen at the expo, had disappeared. The senator was nowhere to be seen. Not even a glimpse.

Sergei Moskowsky, on the other hand, was like a ghost. People were already used to his disappearances, but this was the first time that his disappearance unsettled many.

His company had been blown up.

His chairman was the suspect.

His son had not been seen again inside the office.

And the residences of both the senator and the chairman had remained empty for four days now. There was no telling what the fuck was happening in the city anymore. And that was unsettling.

Because an angry Moskowsky could be understood.

A nonchalant Moskowsky could be understood.

But a Moskowsky that did absolutely nothing while work resumed as if nothing had happened? That was a red flag.

Slowly, the city began to impose curfews.

The government said it was because there was increasing theft in the city that there were aspects that needed to be dealt with. Sometimes they even said that the city needed to be quarantined because there was a virus that had escaped the lab.

The people of Frolo, however, knew what the truth was. They didn’t challenge the curfew because they knew what was coming.

Sergei Moskowsky had been targeted, and someone was going to pay.

This wasn’t as simple as finding who had hurt Katya Romanov back in the day because this time, Katya Romanov was the traitor. The traitor who had made a run for it. The traitor who had left the city at the hands of the most unstable barbarian.

So, when the city heard that Sergei Moskowsky had gone to release Doctor Belyaeva, one of the doctors incriminated in the Romanov case, they knew the alpha had begun his war.

"He went to the doctor who knew Romanov the most."

"The therapist is the last of the ten medics hired by Milan Popova. Maybe that is what he needs to figure out where the traitor is."

"I can’t believe that I am supporting a crazy doctor just to save the city."

The reactions were different. So very different.

But Sergei Moskowsky didn’t bother to talk to anyone.

He did follow protocol, though. He had been the one to make the case, and he needed the therapist to help him figure out what it was like inside Katya Romanov’s head.

That was an excuse so simple that even though the city held its breath for the fate of the therapist, watching their homes.

The surgeon had been blown to bits inside the park.

The professor had been dumped like a dog.

Milan had disappeared.

And now the therapist, who was the last one whose location was known, had just been released from prison.

"I will handle everything that relates to this doctor. And I shall return her," Sergei said to the warden, who was shaking and almost peeing his pants as Sergei spoke. The warden was more than just horrified.

This was Sergei at his door.

Sergei Moskowsky.

This was the man the legend had been born from, and honestly, it didn’t matter what he did with the woman, as long as he had the guarantee never to cross paths again. Because this man was scary, and the warden pretty much loved his life.

"Where are you taking me?" Doctor Belyaeva asked once she stepped out of the prison walls. She should have been happier because prison had been hell for her. Because the women there had been mean to her through and through.

She should have been relaxed because at the end of the day, she had been saved from that hellhole.

But then she was out now, and the prison walls may have been hell for her on the other side, but she knew there wasn’t a kinder fate waiting for her on this side, especially at the hands of Sergei Moskowsky himself.

"We didn’t have a chat, Doctor Belyaeva... And my therapists keep quitting on me," Sergei said calmly, like a man who had no ulterior motives. If the doctor didn’t know any better, the man was asking for a consultation.

"You... you want me to be your therapist?" Doctor Belyaeva asked, and Sergei just smiled at her.

"Yes. I will not harm you as long as you are my therapist," Sergei lied smoothly. Maybe he was telling the truth, or maybe that was just what he wanted the woman to think. But the lie was there.

The doctor could sniff it from miles away with her experience in her career. Yet a part of her still dared to hope. Because if the madman had come to seek her out like this, then maybe there was hope that she would save her life.

"Get in, Doctor. I’ll take you to your new home," he said, not mincing his words, even as a smile settled on his face.

It was supposed to make the woman relax, even as Sergei opened the door for her and held it like he was her new butler. But then again, this man was not just any man, and she was so close to losing her damn mind in here.

"Thank you," the doctor said, unsure of what the fuck she needed to say to the man.

"If you think of strangling me with a seatbelt, I assure you, you will fail. You can try stabbing me, though. There are three knives in the compartment in front of your seat. If it were me, I would go for the jugular.

"There are two blades on the seat next to you. You can use them too. There is a taser in the compartment in front of the seat beside yours. You can use that too. And there is a button for you to click if you want my seat to move forward fast, if you want to escape.

"Everything is ready for your escape, Doctor," Sergei said as he went to the driver’s seat right in front of the doctor’s seat.

Curiously, the doctor looked to see if Sergei was messing with her.

He wasn’t.

Every weapon was there that she could use to kill him. They were sharper, and he was right. She could simply stab her way to freedom, right?

Gods, what the fuck had she stumbled into?

"I wasn’t," the doctor said, not really sure what to say anymore.

"Uhh... Doctor, do you mind if I start my session right now?" Sergei asked, and Doctor Belyaeva moved to the empty seat that had the blades shifted so she could at least see the man she was talking to.

"Sure. Of course..."

"The... uhh... the man I love, yeah? He told me he loves me, too. He... he even let me kiss him... he kissed me first though... But now I don’t know what to do," Sergei said in earnest.

Doctor Belyaeva stared at the madman like she couldn’t believe this was why she had been brought out of prison.

"How... how long have you loved him?" she asked like she could already imagine this being a five-minute session that would end with her back in prison or worse, down the gutters and at the mercy of the devil himself.

"Ten years, one week, seventeen hours, thirty-five minutes and..." Sergei said, looking at his watch.

"...twelve seconds, Doctor."

For a moment, the therapist stared at Sergei like she was not even sure this was the Devil of Frolo anymore. If anyone had told her that this would be her client in the past years, she would have dismissed it.

Because she knew the tales about Sergei Moskowsky’s therapy sessions.

She knew the horrors that befell those therapists.

She knew how one of his therapists had decided to become a servant in the nearest church because that was way better than having to sit down with Mr. Moskowsky himself.

And now the man was asking about love in an SUV that had all the weapons she had never known possible?

"Doctor... you went quiet back there. Are you alright?" he asked, only to look toward the doctor and see her struggling to stab herself.

"Uh, right... I forgot to mention that all the food that you’ve been fed in there contained mind-control meds. You can’t kill yourself unless I tell you to," he said so casually that for a moment the doctor stared in shock.

What the fuck was Sergei Moskowsky made of? What the hell did this man want with her? What was she even roped into? No one had prepared her for this kind of shit. And for some reason, this was worse than death.

"You WHAT?" the doctor asked in disbelief.

"Well, you did lie to my Solnyshka that he was incapable of being pregnant while manipulating him. Figured you needed a taste of your own medicine. But that is not the issue right now...

"... Can we please focus on my Solnyshka loving me and kissing back?... Please?" Sergei said, his eyes softening like he was in a real crisis.

"Kat... Katya Romanov is your Solnyshka?" she asked, horrified.

"And the love of my life," Sergei said with a tender smile before adding, "So... a little help, doctor?"

The doctor fell to the seat, unconscious.
