Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 282: This Love, Just Between Us
[FROLO]
Across the room, Katya was talking to Sergei and some investors. The conversations seemed interesting until Alek watched Volkov walk over to where Katya and Sergei were.
Alek knew him.
He was the man’s secretary.
And probably a hitman.
So, when Volkov turned to look at the senator, Alek knew he was done for.
He didn’t wait.
Instead, he went to where there were other investors. He would mingle, he would buy time because he’d checked his phone and he still had twenty minutes of the hour that Kenzo had given him.
He needed a distraction, one that was so smooth because he figured the only way to get out of this place...
Was to step out with an investor.
Sergei wouldn’t question it.
No one would.
"I’m sorry, what?" Volkov whispered in surprise, like he couldn’t believe what Sergei had just told him. So, he looked around the room again and found the senator who was looking at him with weary eyes.
"Is that going to be a problem?" Sergei asked flatly, like a bored man.
"Maybe I should call Miss Anya for this?" Volkov asked, unsure. He didn’t believe what he was hearing, honestly, because when the fuck had he changed careers to this?
"Solnyshka is bored, and this expo has boring people. You distract them while we get out and go have fun elsewhere," Sergei reiterated, and Volkov groaned.
"I’m not getting paid enough for this," Volkov groaned.
"We can’t leave now," Katya reasoned, and Sergei stared at him softly.
"But you said you didn’t want to be around Alek today," Sergei asked, as if it were the most obvious of things.
"Yaroslav is at the expo... Sir," Volkov stressed.
"Yes, and Solnyshka is bored."
"Please excuse my language, sir, but both of you are the highest executives in the room, and you want to... disappear because the chairman is bored?"
"Yes."
"No."
"No?" Sergei almost screeched as he looked at Katya like this was the ultimate betrayal.
"That executive over there looks like he wants to build a shrine for me because I invited him. That other one is looking at me like I have gold in my clothes. That woman over there is looking at me like I’m some conquest she needs to sc—"
"What woman?" Katya asked, and Sergei raised a brow.
Hell, even Volkov stared at Katya like he was most definitely not being paid enough for this shit.
"Huh?" Sergei asked, confused for a moment.
"You said some woman was looking at you," Katya said flatly, like that was the only takeaway from the whole rant Sergei had given.
And the alpha smiled at him.
Really smiled.
Alek saw it. The stupid hearts in Sergei’s eyes.
Gods, he needed to get out of here, but how the fuck was he supposed to?
"I don’t think I’m needed here anymore, and the senator looks like he’s about to explode. Have fun, you two," Volkov said before Sergei chuckled darkly.
"I’m still your boss," he reminded.
"Of course, Mr. Moskowsky. But I doubt you want to focus on me when your omega is about to rip someone to pieces with his eyes. Excuse me, sirs," Volkov whispered.
Sergei smiled even harder, like he had forgotten that he was trying to intimidate his secretary of fourteen years.
"Solnyshka," Sergei called out quietly when he noticed Katya was scanning the room for someone, anyone.
"Where is she?" Katya asked, not giving up.
"Are you... jealous, moy lyubim?" Sergei asked lowly, and Katya turned to him sharply.
"I’m not... Why would I be? I have a boyfriend, remember?" Katya said, though his eyes spoke different words.
"You’re actually jealous," Sergei teased, his smile brighter than it had been earlier in the day.
"Don’t flatter yourself, Mr. Moskowsky," Katya said with a polite smile, but Sergei could see right through it.
"You’re the only one I love," Sergei said quietly, making sure no one could hear them. Thankfully, they were a bit isolated from the rest of the expo teams and visitors.
Anyone who looked at them only saw a chairman and a CEO talking about what was probably important enough for them to need space from the rest of the crew here. It was that simple after all, no?
It should have been, but damn, Alek was so close to combusting from the way Sergei was still looking at Katya. He couldn’t see the look on Katya’s face, but he didn’t mind because he trusted Katya with his life.
He trusted Katya around Sergei.
What a funny way of showing it.
"I’m not jealous," Katya insisted, and Sergei laughed lightly.
"My beautiful little wolf," Sergei teased.
"Don’t call me that," Katya said, but there was no bite to his words.
"I only have eyes for you, little wolf. Always," Sergei reassured before adding, "I love you."
Katya couldn’t help but smile at that. The way Sergei was talking to him about love in a room filled with the press, people who could even make things worse for them, yet he was so shameless, like an innocent in love. It was crazy.
"You can’t just say that here," Katya said right as Yaroslav walked back in.
"Can I tell my son, though?" Sergei asked as Yaroslav walked toward them.
"What?"
"I want everyone to know I love you," Sergei said.
"That’s reckless," Katya scolded, only for Yaroslav to join their conversation.
"What’s reckless, my soul?" Yaroslav asked like it was the most normal thing to say.
Then again, he was never ashamed of his love for Katya. He didn’t mind where they were and what they were doing because, at the end of the day, he was already atoning for what he did to Katya.
Besides, he wasn’t asking Katya to take him back.
"Tell him, Chairman," Sergei said. You would think he was encouraging Katya to have a conversation with his son openly.
"Mr. Moskowsky thinks this is the time to launch the prototype we’ve been working on," Katya lied through his teeth.
He knew Yaroslav would catch on because Sergei was never reckless. Ever. He never made business decisions that were wrong. There was a reason he was the best of the best.
"If it’s ready, I don’t see why not. Besides, the margin of error for his calculations isn’t usually high. You know that too, right?" Yaroslav said lightly, as if this were about business.
Like he hadn’t unknowingly interrupted a chat between an alpha who was teasing the omega they both cared about.
Gods were they walking through thin waters here.
"Yeah, I know that. It’s just with the slowed permits, the inspections, I think this isn’t the time for that.
"Especially with the scandal out there between Mr. Moskowsky and Senator Aleksandr," Katya said, as if one wasn’t his boyfriend and the other the man he was so in love with.
Oh, he was screwed.
"Well, Father, maybe you should consider your chairman’s proposal. Trust him more," Yaroslav said casually, and Sergei watched as the conversation was easy.
"Of course, I do trust the chairman. But perhaps he is right. This isn’t the time for a new launch," Sergei said, his tone slowly going back to normal.
"Great, thank you, Mr. Moskowsky. I’ll go check on Alek. Please excuse me," Katya said, and the Moskowskys both just nodded and watched in silence as Katya crossed the room to where Alek was.
They had the same look in their eyes.
Desire for the omega.
