Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 275: Need That Fire Just To Know That I’m Awake
[FROLO]
Kenzo was inside the senator’s house.
From the breakfast segment, Alek had made so many detours just to not come face to face with the media, and when he finally reached his home, which was surrounded by the media, he used other means to get into the residence.
Thankfully, they hadn’t gotten inside his house, and he could relax.
Well, for a whole of five minutes, because the Kumarin bratva’s second-in-command was right inside his living room, with seven men as if they were here to remind Alek of what he had to do.
Like they didn’t care that his life, his career, was falling apart. And Alek had so many regrets for approaching the bratva.
Damn, was this not a very good day for him?
"Hello, Aleksandr," Kenzo greeted casually, like the senator’s world wasn’t on fire already.
"You’re... here?" Alek asked, surprised. He looked around him, and honestly, he couldn’t even see his staff.
"They are in the back room with three of my men," Kenzo said when he noticed, and Alek knew this wasn’t good.
This couldn’t be any good, really. The bratva inside his house was the reminder that his life was probably never going to be his own again.
"What are you doing here, Kenzo? What do you want?" Alek asked carefully.
"I brought the suit coat. We already fitted it to your measurements," Kenzo said, like he was talking about how nice the weather outside was and not to the man whose entire life had slowly started crashing down, hard.
This wasn’t the kind of life Alek had envisioned for himself. It wasn’t how he wanted to live, and honestly, he was getting tired of it.
Though he knew that the only way out was to die, which he couldn’t even do.
Because if he died, Sergei would take Katya from him. Fuck.
"Here? In my house? Are you fucking insane?" Alek asked angrily as he rushed to the window to see if there was anyone looking at his house.
Of course, there were at the gates, but fuck, this was not the life he had wanted to live. This wasn’t what his reality was supposed to be like. All he’d ever wanted was to be a good senator and lead the people.
And now he had shot himself in the foot, and with Sergei’s statement out there, his political career was practically dead. What the fuck was he supposed to do with this bunch inside his house then?
"You went after Sergei Moskowsky; I should be asking you the same. Because if he cancels your attendance at the Moskowsky party the day after tomorrow, that broken omega of yours will be dead... By my hands.
"... And you will watch as I snuff the life out of him," Kenzo said. His tone horrified Alek and reminded him that it was the worst of ideas to go ask for help from the fucking bratva. What the hell was he even doing right now?
"You wouldn’t," Alek said angrily.
"Sit down, Aleksandr. We haven’t even gone over the whole plan, and you’re already barking," Kenzo mocked, and Alek felt the hair at the back of his head stand.
What the fuck was this man even talking about?
"Hold on. What plan?" Alek asked in confusion.
"You didn’t think you were going there just to forget your suit coat, no?" Kenzo laughed, and Alek didn’t find it funny. He was no longer a member of the Moskowsky board.
And even if he went as the senator, the only way he would be able to access any Moskowsky offices was if he was with Katya.
He would be betraying Katya with this.
If he accepted this mission, he would be a traitor to the bond that he should have respected and trusted in the first place. This was not fair. It was not okay at all, yet Kenzo didn’t seem like the person to care whether anything was right or wrong.
It was a cruel comparison to the life Alek had been living before. The quiet and happy life with Katya. The one where he never had to worry about anything.
Yet now he had to worry about the bratva, about going into the most secure building in the realm, and probably turning in access things that he had no clue about, and betraying Katya, all while evading Moskowsky security.
He honestly, at this point, thought death was a way better punishment than what he was being asked for. He had barely made up with Katya, and now he was about to ruffle some feathers. What the fuck did that even make him?
"I am a sitting senator," Alek reminded, as if that was supposed to bear any weight at the moment.
"And you walked to my door first. I didn’t call for you. I didn’t ask you to come. You brought yourself, now sit the fuck down and we shall talk. Unless you want me to kill your omega.
"We have people inside that research and development department he is working in," Kenzo said, and Alek stared at him, not believing him.
Then again, it was almost stupid not to believe Kenzo because the man was literally a senator and was at the mercy of Kenzo again. This was not the time to start playing the game of who did what and what was Kenzo’s reach.
"What?" Alek asked, surprised.
"You think the footage that hit the media waves of your omega and that devil barbarian was gotten out of CCTV footage? You couldn’t have seriously been that dumb, right? We have people everywhere.
"We are watching every move your little omega makes. We know what he does and where he goes each time. Now, will you sit, or do you want to confirm again? Because you and I know Sergei Moskowsky is not in the office right now;
"...neither are Romanov’s friends," Kenzo said, and Alek stilled.
Because Kenzo hadn’t mentioned them like casual friends.
He had listed them alongside Sergei Moskowsky, as people whose presence could turn his simple plan into a disaster.
It was like Kenzo knew they weren’t just people who stood beside Katya. That they were people who became a problem when someone threatened their peace. Alek had witnessed it once weeks ago.
How had his life taken such a turn? What the fuck was he even doing with his own life? He had managed to get Katya into trouble, too. What kind of boyfriend was he?
All the lies and the betrayal only to be about to betray Katya again.
Alek was in pain, and he didn’t even know how to defend himself, much less get out of his current predicament. His life was not even worth living anymore, yet he couldn’t do much about it.
Because anything he did would always affect Katya.
The same Katya he wanted to protect from the very beginning. Who loved him unconditionally and respected their relationship enough to set clear boundaries between him and Sergei.
The same Katya that Alek had not trusted.
What the hell kind of situation had he roped them into?
"Great, I’m assuming you will listen to me now, yeah?" Kenzo said like he didn’t have all the leverage over the senator already and his life in his hands.
"Yes," Senator Aleksandr said defeatedly. There was no easy way out of this.
And maybe, just maybe, for the first time, he was thinking he should have just been glad to have Sergei as a romantic rival and not the bratva as the people who would ruin his life.
"You must not check the contents in this suit. And you MUST leave it in Katya Romanov’s office," Kenzo said, and Alek froze.
"What?" Alek asked, but Kenzo ignored him, continuing with the instructions. And by the time he was done, death by Sergei’s hands was suddenly a very noble option to Aleksandr.
"Your omega looks good today in that white suit. If I were you, I’d hold him tighter and be kinder to him. Because he is about to have the worst season of his career... because of you," Kenzo said, laughing like it was the most normal of things.
And then he and his men walked out.
Through the senator’s front door.
Knowing so well that there were media personnel outside.
But Alek didn’t care even when he heard the clamors outside and the reporters begging for statements and confirmation.
He was about to hurt and betray the man he was in a relationship with... for the bratva he’d joined hands with because he wanted Katya to himself.
What could be worse than that?
