Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 270: Stars Shining In The Darkness
[FROLO]
Katya Romanov was a mess.
He’d paced the executive floor hallways for what felt like forever, constantly staring at his watch like he was waiting for a call.
A confirmation.
Anything.
He had tried to call Alek after the breakfast segment, and all calls went to voicemail. Katya couldn’t even blame the man, not after what Sergei had so brazenly revealed to the world.
It was a cruel jab, and it would have been dismissed by anyone if the confirmation hadn’t come from Sergei.
If anyone had said that to the senator, the media would have settled on speculation. But Sergei Moskowsky making that statement was all that the city needed to shift narratives.
The good senator who had been loved by the city was suddenly being trolled across all social media platforms. Radios, media posts, and even other news platforms borrowed footage just to scrutinize it, and it was a mess.
Sergei Moskowsky had not just shown the smoke.
He had pointed at the fire.
The good senator was working with the bratva. He may not have spelled it out for Frolo, but then a lot of people in the city had minds that could connect the dots.
To be fair, the bratva had terrorized the city more than Sergei had terrorized the city. Sergei never went after innocents. Sergei never kidnapped people just for the sake of it.
Sergei didn’t force drugs into the Frolo streets and demand money from even the street kids.
Sergei’s system was clear.
He had never claimed he was a saint, but he had a code that he worked with. A code that reminded people why he was so dangerous.
The bratva didn’t.
They messed up anyone and everyone they came across. They had nothing that worked for them properly, save for the fact that money had to be made, come rain or sunshine.
And right now, with the focus on them, they still didn’t mind.
Aleksandr was in trouble.
As Katya kept pacing in Sergei’s office, in the executive floor hallways, he knew it too. This was not the kind of shit a good PR move would save the senator from.
Katya contemplated calling Leon, but he had a feeling that there were so many calls out there flooding the senator’s office. There was nothing he could do to save Alek. Not this time anyway.
Funny how the same bratva that Alek had gone to to ask for help regarding Sergei was the same one that was now being his downfall. What an ironic day.
"Chairman..." Volkov called out for the tenth time since Katya had come to the executive floor angry and looking like he wanted to slam someone’s head into the wall.
They had honestly never seen the man that pissed, and the fact that they all knew who he was waiting for was nearly hilarious.
Because there was a very high chance that an unbothered Sergei would be walking out of the elevator in a few minutes, seeing as Katya had been here for an hour now.
"I am fine, Volkov," the omega insisted, even though the bitter scent of rage filled the executive floor like Katya was determined to suffocate Anya and Volkov with his raging citrus scent.
"Okay," was all Volkov said.
He had honestly lost count of the number of times he’d said okay in the past hour.
Then the elevator dinged while Katya was pacing near the elevator.
In it was the man of the hour.
The man who had turned an entire nation against a senator with his simple words. A man who had gone in for an interview about Moskowsky permits and had walked out, leaving an explosion.
Sergei was standing in the elevator that had stopped, the doors open, with coffee in one hand and a package in the other, like he was here to make someone’s day better.
It was a ridiculous sight, given who was standing a few feet from the elevator, looking like he was about to send Sergei into hell himself today.
"You look beautiful, Solnyshka," Sergei greeted effortlessly, his bright smile on his face like he didn’t know what he had done, and for a moment, Katya seemed to stop thinking of his boyfriend.
He stared at Sergei.
Really stared at the man before him. The man who was acting like the world was at peace when there were wildfires because of him already.
He was wearing the same burgundy suit he’d been wearing in the morning segment, and boy, did he look unreal that Katya almost forgot he was angry and why he was angry.
"Solnyshka?" Sergei called out when he noticed Katya staring at him intensely. Katya unintentionally swallowed thickly, making Sergei smile as he walked toward him like life was suddenly the most beautiful of things.
"What the hell was that back there?" Katya demanded as Sergei smiled at him sheepishly.
"The truth," the alpha said, before adding, "I cooked us breakfast. Please join me."
Katya short-circuited.
He couldn’t think for a whole minute after what Sergei had just said. He was here, pissed at the man, and he was preparing breakfast?
What the hell was wrong with Sergei Moskowsky?
Or maybe what the hell was wrong with Katya because suddenly the thought of Sergei cooking him breakfast made him feel jelly and giddy inside.
This was definitely not the time to be swooning over the Devil of Frolo.
It was definitely not.
Yet he hurried alongside Sergei, organizing his thoughts because honestly, he was stuck between being angry about the damn interview, the fact that Sergei had prepared him breakfast, and the way Sergei smelled so fucking good this morning.
What the hell was he supposed to focus on? Shit, he was fucked.
"Mr. Moskowsky is in," Volkov smiled knowingly when a flustered Katya walked through the office doors, struggling to keep his composure and maintain his anger when all he looked like at the moment was just a simple, beautiful omega who couldn’t focus on shit this early.
"Yeah, thanks," Katya responded flatly before he pushed open the door to Sergei’s office.
Honestly, Katya had to remind himself to focus again.
It wasn’t that Sergei had released his rainforest pheromones against Katya, no.
The alpha had done nothing of the sort.
He wasn’t even trying to manipulate Katya into doing anything or even changing his attitude toward him, no. Today, Sergei was just existing, and a very angry omega was suddenly unsure if he wanted to strangle the man or smother him with kisses.
’Dammit, I need to focus on Alek,’ Katya reminded himself, even though it was almost pointless at this moment.
Because Sergei had set the table and was leaning casually against his desk while staring at the door where Katya was still standing like he had suddenly realized he was entering a predator’s zone.
"You look pissed," Sergei said, like it wasn’t obvious.
"What the fuck was that?" Katya demanded again, and this time, Sergei raised a brow, making Katya glare at him.
"You have a colorful mouth today, my beautiful Solnyshka. Anyway, let’s feed you first, and you can tear me apart later, yeah?"
"I’m not hungry," Katya huffed, and Sergei chuckled deeply.
"You’ve been pacing on this floor for over an hour while waiting for me, little wolf. If you want to talk to me, you’re going to have to sit down and eat," Sergei said, holding Katya’s defiant eyes.
"I hate you," Katya spat.
"I know, little wolf," Sergei smiled, before he walked over to where Katya was, and helped the omega to a seat.
"You’ll need more energy to hate me later, too. So, eat, yeah?"
