Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 250: Every Day We Vibin’, Mic Drop, Bam
[FROLO]
"Get out," Katya said for what felt like the fiftieth time in the past half hour.
Sergei Moskowsky had turned his office into a resting zone for some reason.
Because the alpha was currently sleeping on Katya’s couch... After frosting the glass around the chairman’s office on the research and development floor, receiving oohs and awws from the staff.
But he hadn’t even bothered.
If anything, he’d had the nerve to tell the researchers to do their job because he was doing his with Chairman Romanov.
The sheer audacity had Katya rubbing his temple a few times too many.
"No wayy... your office is comfier than mine," Sergei said instead.
It had been the same thing over and over.
Just when Katya thought he’d be fine working with the giant in the room, Sergei occasionally made comments that had him struggling between being serious at work and smiling sheepishly.
"I’ll call Anya on you," Katya had tried.
Even called the woman only for her to tell him that Sergei was his problem now, not hers.
"You’re distracting me, Vladimir... Go back to your office," Katya grumbled, and Sergei sighed softly.
"Your scent is so sweet, Solnyshka. I could survive on it my entire life."
"You would die then of starvation."
"Not if I come to your office daily."
"Aren’t you supposed to be the CEO or something?"
"I’m watching my beloved work. That is way better than any work I’ve ever done."
"Fine. If you want to stay in here, shut up and undo the frosting. Or I’ll go work with Volkov, and you’re not allowed to follow."
"I’ll kill him if he tries to take you from me... But sure, I’ll shut up now and do as you asked," the alpha said, staring at Katya like he was trying to come up with something else.
Well, one glare from Katya had him staying on the couch silently.
Then the door opened moments later, making Katya groan as his secretary walked in.
"Please tell me there’s an emergency that needs him out of my office," Katya said tiredly.
"There’s been a change in the board of directors, Chairman," Rahim said.
Katya instinctively turned to Sergei, glaring at him because the only person powerful enough to influence something like this was currently being insufferable on his couch.
"What did you do this time?" Katya asked.
"Other than being a good listener? Nothing," Sergei chuckled knowingly, and Katya tried hard to hide his blush, given the way Sergei was staring at him.
Gods, he was starting to be weak for this man, and it wasn’t good.
Not for him.
Not for his relationship with Alek and certainly not for what the future was bound to look like for both of them.
"Rahim..." Katya urged, looking back at his secretary.
"The senator resigned as a board member, sir," Rahim said, and Sergei instantly sat up, amusement on his face as he pulled out a protein bar from his pocket, again.
"How many of those do you carry?" Katya asked as he tried to process the fact that Aleksandr had resigned from the board. That was not an easy decision to come to. Not with the shares the man had.
But then maybe he wanted to focus on his political career, right?
Maybe he was trusting the company to do right by his shares, no?
"Six. I was going to give you the other three once you finished yours, but you only ate one," Sergei said with a pout, as if there wasn’t an important announcement hanging in the room over them.
"Did he say why?"
"Yes. He transferred his shares to you, Chairman. Said he trusted you to take care of his shares and that there was no need for him to be part of the board anymore," Rahim said, and Katya raised a brow at that.
Alek stepping back from the board of Moskowsky was one thing, but to give up all his shares? That wasn’t a decision someone could come to overnight.
Because at the end of the day, the seven percent hold he had in Moskowsky was worth billions. It made no sense for him to give them away.
"He trusts you, it’s a good thing," Sergei said when he noticed Katya was about to start thinking on overdrive.
Maybe it was about trust.
Maybe it was about the senator focusing on his re-election, but then the election season was still a year or two away. It made no sense to step back this early. And the fact that he hadn’t even told Katya beforehand was a little disturbing.
"He can’t just—"
"It’s what I’d do," Sergei dropped casually, and Katya thought back to the Moskowsky wealth that was currently in his name. A burden that he had chosen to ignore existed because part of him hoped that this would last long.
But then time had proven it over and again that Sergei wasn’t going to take anything back.
"Please excuse me," Rahim said.
Katya just nodded as he checked his email. There was nothing other than the resignation that had been shared across.
He then checked his phone. There was nothing from Alek. No calls. No texts. Nothing to explain why this had happened.
"I... I have to go," Katya mumbled, and Sergei stared at him softly.
"Trust him, Solnyshka... If the two of you haven’t been fighting, then I’d trust him. Maybe he plans on telling you when you go back home," Sergei said in earnest.
Katya wondered if this alpha even knew that he’d been staying in his penthouse since before the gala. That they barely talked with Alek anymore.
It wasn’t something alarming, but the last time someone had done a transfer of shares to Katya, the omega had been experiencing a tragedy.
"But..." Katya sighed.
He still had work to do. Still had commitments with his lab partners. To up and leave just because Alek resigned from the board wasn’t fair.
So, he weighed it all and decided to stay. Not because Sergei was there, but because behind the glass walls was a group of people who’d been sending him data to check occasionally.
Maybe he would leave early today.
Just maybe.
"If you’re worried, call him. If he doesn’t answer, we can send people to check on him. Besides, I can go too," Sergei said, making a sudden offer that had Katya staring at him like this man was losing his mind.
Sending the man he loved to check on his boyfriend was diabolical, yet at the same time, it almost made sense. Then again, Sergei ran Moskowsky. If Alek saw him there, he’d probably be freaked out and think Sergei came to threaten him.
"Thank you, but no need. I’ll text him now and call him after work or on my way home," Katya said, and Sergei just nodded before he got up from the couch, ready to excuse himself.
"You’re leaving?" Katya asked weakly, his voice low, almost like he was pouting, and Sergei paused. Surely, he hadn’t heard him right, yeah?
"What?"
"I thought..."
"Do you want me to stay, Moy Solnyshka?"
"No...?" Katya trailed off in uncertainty.
"Use your words... little wolf," Sergei said, as he leaned on the desk in front of Katya, picking up the landline he’d come with.
His eyes, though...
They stayed on Katya’s uncertain ones.
"You’re biting your lip again," Sergei said at the same time that Katya spoke.
"Just for an hour."
The alpha chuckled before he sat on the chair in front of Katya, not once going back to the couch.
"Of course, Solnyshka."
