[FROLO]

"He is moving on," Nikolai said softly.

"Why would we approve our house sale? We are still married, for fucks sake!" Yaroslav complained that it was the worst of insults he had ever had to deal with.

Nikolai stared at his friend, who was slowly getting closer. He knew that this was not easy for him, but what the hell was he supposed to say?

The entire city had seen the change in Katya Romanov after Erika had been born.

The omega had not done much, but they had seen it all.

How he smiled more often.

How he minded his business.

How he acted like he did not just get bashed by a whole society for his inadequacies.

Katya was giving everyone the cold shoulder at the company, and he was being professional about it.

And that was why it hurt.

So much so that Yaroslav had decided not to go to work today, because he would get his day ruined with the damn flowers the senator had been sending Katya all the time.

The fact that Katya had gone out with the senator for that damned coffee date had Yaroslav all depressed more than his own choices, that were not have different consequences on him.

"Come on, man. What would you have had him do? Stay and wait for you? You literally denied him in front of everyone like he was nothing.

"You said you would divorce him, and now you are suffering for your own choices," Nikolai said amusedly, the logic Yaroslav was leaning into something that he did not fully understand.

Maybe because he knew for a fact that his friend was no saint in all of this.

And Yaroslav glared at him.

Maybe because he was expecting Nikolai to soothe him and tell him that things would be alright. To hold his hand and remind him that they were bigger than omegas in the hierarchy. But did it even matter?

"He calls himself Katya Romanov now. Not Katya Gamov. Romanov," Yaroslav laughed bitterly, and Nik sighed.

"Looks like you’re drowning today, buddy. Let’s drink our lives away, no?" Nikolai sighed when he realized that Yaroslav was too far gone in his obsession with Katya, even after he had been the one to push away first.

But then was the thing Yaroslav had not expected: that Katya would replace him in one month. It was like the Beta was not even a part of his life anymore. They were married, yet Katya walked out freely like an unmarried man.

He lived his life like there wasn’t much to lose this time, and yards were healed. He had wanted to go to Katya and explain, but then the omega was never around whenever Yaroslav was courageous enough to talk bout it all.

The one instance that had ruined him was yesterday morning when he had gone to talk to Katya. He knocked and walked in only to find the senator laughing with Katya in his office.

It was a sight that Yaro couldn’t get out of his head. The way that Katya was moving was like he was single again. Like they didn’t have a marriage that they needed to protect. Even so, had Yaroslav ever done anything for their marriage?

"Why the fuck is he here?" Yaroslav had asked possessively yesterday, and the senator just looked at him like he had lost his mind.

"Why hello to you too, CEO Gamov... aren’t you supposed to be working for Knox? Running the establishment?" the senator asked, his voice flat in the kind of way that wasn’t even insulting.

It was almost like the senator was genuinely curious, and Yaroslav was sure his mind would have him doomed because this wasn’t it for him. This couldn’t be the way that his life was changed.

Not like this.

"What do you want, Yaroslav?" Katya had asked, his voice cold and stiff, something that Yaroslav had never thought possible from the omega who was always oozing with love.

The man was always caring and never once stared at him with such icy eyes.

It was almost like Yaroslav was the last person he wanted to see, and Yaroslav stood there trying to understand what he had done that was so wrong, and encouraged all that.

But even if he were to ask, would he like the answer when he took what it was and still refused to accept?

"Why is the senator here?" Yaroslav had asked again.

"That is not an answer, Yaroslav. If you didn’t have anything to do here, leave," Katya Rajah said, and Yaroslav still stood there in disbelief.

"Rahim!"

"Sir."

"The next time Mr. Gamov wants to see me, make sure he has an appointment, alright? Do not give him a free pass just because the company is owned by his family. Are we clear?" Katya had asked.

Rahim had stared at Yaroslav, like this was not the time.

And truly, it wasn’t.

"Yes, sir."

"Show him out."

Katya did not even mince his words, and Yaroslav had wanted to stay. To say that he had other matters to talk to him about, but he had been too shocked by the change that he simply walked himself out after wishing Kata a good day.

He never got a response after that.

Just the laughter of a senator that his ears were faster than he had anticipated.

"We have a baby now, I jus—" Yaro began right as the door to the backyard opened, and there stood Milan Popova.

The woman whose purpose had been complete, and Yaroslav was determined to find ways to keep away from Katya. He wanted Katya back, and if Milan was around, Katya would definitely not want him back.

There were moments when Yaro even considered staging an accident just so Milan would leave him be, but at the same time, it was bad to kill his daughter’s mother. Hence, his current dilemma.

"What do you want, Milan? Didn’t I tell you to never interrupt us?" Yaroslav asked, his voice hoarse and his words slurring.

Greta was already drunk.

"Mr. Moskowsky is waiting for you in the study," Milan said, before leaving.

"Dam, that was cold. Do you not love each other anymore?" Nikolai asked sheepishly, his sarcasm making Yaro smack him at the back of his head.

Nikolai knew that Katya was the only person Yaroslav loved and that there was never going to be a change in that anytime soon. It wasn’t even an exaggeration. The man had seen all that Yaro had strived to do.

Even the fact that Yaro had had a baby with Milan just to take the pressure off of Katya’s back. But what more was he supposed to do when the omega probably would never really forgive him for cheating on him?

"I have to go, man. Father is probably here to ask me why I never went to work. See you around, bro," Yaroslav said, putting his bottle back into the crate even though it was unfinished.

He then straightened up, fixing himself like he was getting ready for the most important meeting of his life. Well, to be fair, his father had not raised him to be a shoddy man. If Yaroslav walked in there looking like shit, his father would be disappointed.

And that was what Yaros wasn’t trying to do.

He did not want to disappoint his father at all.
