Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 123: The Sun Seems To Be Going Down Fast lately
[KATYA]
Fridays were supposed to be exciting, thrilling even.
Yet Katya’s Friday was being spent running from work to come and pack up before he could be pushed out.
He hadn’t told anyone, not even his friends, who could have gladly helped him pack and leave the residence.
This was his walk of shame.
His reminder that, at the end of the day, he was just nothing.
That he would always be worth nothing to the Moskowskys.
Katya had contemplated going back home to his parents. To work at Romanov Steel. But even that wouldn’t work because Sergei technically had the largest number of controlling shares in Romanov steel.
Sure, he had told Katya that he had invested them in an anonymous name, but Katya knew that that was just to let him know that he could pull back if ever he wanted to. And if Katya went back to Romanov steel, he would be domed.
His family would be in shambles. Maybe that was why he was back in 13 Emerald, packing up. Getting ready to move to the new penthouse.
Maybe if he left on his own, he would avoid his walk of shame with reporters and whatnot.
Gods, Katya was tired of everything.
The love of his life had a baby with someone else, and society praised them for it.
His heart was bleeding for the love he thought he could save with Yaroslav.
For months, Katya had hoped that things would be alright. That Yaroslav would come back. He was his husband after all. They had sworn their vows in front of the deities, and their friends, and even the Frolo society, thanks to the live stream back then.
Yet for six months it had ended. It felt more like shame for Katya and praise for Yaroslav. That shit hurt as fuck. And Katya couldn’t breathe easily. The ache in his chest was too much that he needed his pills.
Then again, he promised his friends he would never rely on pills to function.
That he would be better.
But what was better when his heart was breaking so harshly?
When he couldn’t even drink more because, as he had learned last evening, drinking would do nothing for his system, the drinks had numbed his pain for six months, but he had tried again yesterday, and it didn’t work.
It was like he was just drinking water, only to end up with a horrible headache. His heart still hurt even then, and fuck if this was the lifeline that Katya was leaning into.
He needed to numb his pain so desperately.
"Maybe this time I’ll take a few," Katya sighed as he crawled on his floor, tears pooling in his eyes and dripping down his face like a fountain as he searched for his bottle. He needed the pain to stop.
He needed everyone to just let him be.
He needed people to leave him the fuck alone.
Yaroslav was happy with Milan.
Sergei was happy with Irina.
Yet he couldn’t even be allowed to be happy, alone.
What kind of life was this?
Oh, Katya was lost.
And when he finally got his bottles, he twisted the cap open. He felt like he was in heaven.
Only that the door to his bedroom opened, making Katya pause suddenly.
His friends were here.
Of course they were.
Katya had never taken out the tracker they had agreed on months ago. He didn’t know if that was a good thing or a terrible thing at the moment. Because his friends would never let him pop any pills.
It wasn’t even that hard to tell.
"Please... please let me kill even one of them," Svet begged as she walked towards her friend, who was so lost. It wasn’t that hard to imagine what he was feeling, even though they couldn’t exactly understand the magnitude.
But they knew.
There was a lot that has happened so far. So much that was ripping Katya’s heart open one too many times that the advert wanted to murder for him.
All Katya had to say was yes.
Just a simple word, and everything would be sorted. After all, they already had their own body dumping site in Romanov steel.
No one would say a word anyway.
"Wh... Why are you guys here?" Katya asked when Andfre walked in.
They looked like they wanted to kill someone, and that was usually bad.
Especially if Andre shared the same look at Svet.
Andre was always the quiet one who tried to reason. He always chose logic first before any situation.
But now he had that murderous look on his face. So much so that Katya wiped his tears fast, as if that would make what he was going through.
Yet the evidence was there.
The hair that was so disheveled on a working day. The fact that his friends were here instead of at their homes or work. It was almost crazy what was messing with him.
And Katya stared at the bottle in his hands:
The pills that were so close.
The relief that was calling to him.
And as he looked at his friends, he realized that they would be forced to be terrible people because of him.
Especially if he said yes.
Of course, they didn’t mind.
Never had.
But for Katya, he felt like he had ruined enough lives already and couldn’t take his friends down with him.
So, when Katya thought they were no longer looking, he turned the bottle to his mouth, not caring about the chance that he would die if he did that.
He was so close.
So very close.
Until Andre smacked the bottle to the side harshly, and pulled him into a hug suddenly, while the man was on his knees.
"You’re not alone, Romanov," Andre swore, and he was being sincere.
Katya wasn’t alone.
He always knew that.
But today just felt heavier than the other days.
So defeatedly, Katya let himself cry.
He cried over everything that he was dealing with.
For the fact that he was just a pawn.
He cried for his baby, who would never come back.
For the child he would never have, because after the surgery, the doctors had said his chances of conceiving were very, very small. And that if ever he did, it would be a very risky pregnancy that would need to be cared for very delicately.
He had no future.
No home.
No real chance at happiness.
And now there was a very high chance that the government would come after him for being the first omega with three names.
What the hell was he supposed to do?
"Fuck!!" Svet punched a hole into the concrete wall, her rage a reminder that she was no Omega or Beta.
The woman was an alpha, as was Andre.
"I’m sorry, I’m always crying when you see me," Katya sniffled as he struggled to be let go.
"Let us do the dirty work, Romanov. Let us get our hands dirty for you with the Moskowskys, please," Andre pleaded when he gently pulled Katya from the hug, and honestly, he understood.
This wasn’t what their friend’s life was supposed to be like.
"You can’t... I... I have to move out of this house before the day ends," Katya sniffled.
