Chapter 1669: Chapter 839: The Operation Begins_2

"Everyone, be ready. These people never play by the rules. I’m pretty sure their mission this time is aimed straight at me."

However, a complicated expression appeared on the commander’s face.

On the other side, at the police SWAT helicopter pad, the SWAT officers were already in full battle readiness.

Seeing large numbers of special operators converging here, they finally relaxed a little.

"Impressive, you managed to rally to our position this fast. So tell me, what’s our next mission?"

The captain, spotting Lin Beichen, asked excitedly.

"Our mission is a decapitation operation. But tonight they’ll definitely lock down this whole building, so everyone get some proper rest first."

Lin Beichen’s words left everyone present utterly stunned.

"Does the Red side headquarters really not worry about something going wrong at a time like this?"

"No. This is what I agreed on with them. Tonight our people have to get a good rest. Not for any other reason—because at first light tomorrow we’ve got a second mission."

Lin Beichen knew clearly that if he wanted to draw the enemy headquarters’ attention, he had to stir up some fresh trouble.

Lin Beichen did not sleep soundly. He understood that this might still take another turn, since he had only just arrived here and his link with the Red side headquarters was cut off.

Just then, the captain walked in.

"Let me ask you something first—this place safe?"

"I mean, can we spend the night here without trouble?"

"Relax. In my place, not even a mosquito is getting out. What’s more, they’ve locked us down now and don’t have us in their sights at all. The only thing they’re doing is a citywide hunt."

"Then let them search. The most dangerous place is often the safest, ha."

Lin Beichen said that, but he was perfectly clear inside: this battle had only just begun. If he wanted to keep pushing forward, he had to re-establish contact with Red side headquarters.

That was the thing really giving him a headache.

"Right now, there’s no way. Every radio signal is being tracked by them. The moment we send anything, the Blue Legion will react."

That was what worried them most at the moment. Obviously, the two of them sat there at a loss for a while; what to do next had become the key issue.

"Don’t worry. I do have a few ways to deal with these people. But I’ve got a bigger problem to think about: how we fight tomorrow. Remember, tomorrow you keep maintaining public order in the city. Don’t worry about us—we’ll move under your noses when the chance comes."

"Understood!"

Step two of Lin Beichen’s plan was sabotage, to ensure the Red Legion could break in at the critical moment. As long as the city fell into chaos, their decapitation operation would go much smoother.

This was also the final tactic he had agreed on in advance with Red side headquarters.

At dawn the next morning, all personnel were ready.

"You know why I woke you for the second half of the night? It’s winter, the sun comes up late. I need each of you to play to your strengths. This time we’re splitting up, operating in dispersed groups, using the three-man cell principle."

Only then did the operators catch on. The three-man cell was indeed an innovation of theirs, but whether it could achieve the expected effect had been uncertain.

"And our women’s special ops team—Chen Lin, your job’s simple: find a way to infiltrate, mainly to take control of the hospitals and similar targets. That way we can get intel on their wounded and sick, and maybe even feel out their nerve centers."

"Yes, sir!"

From today on, it was large-scale sabotage. Many fighters immediately pushed up to the front line. Lin Beichen, by contrast, actually felt a bit more relaxed.

"Ha! Today’s kind of funny. I’m stuck on duty while you sit alone in my office, coordinating the whole board. Aren’t you afraid Blue side headquarters will pick up on it?"

"I don’t think they’ll bother monitoring civilian systems, will they?"

That was the situation now: the mobile carrier had already reached an agreement with Red side headquarters, and with the thorough prep work before, using this method of contact was the simplest.

All Lin Beichen needed was a computer to keep track of everything.

Crude as this approach was, it worked unexpectedly well. Those scattered three-man cells were bumping into the enemy and exchanging fire in no time.

The result was chaos on the headquarters side.

"What’s going on? Why are there fragments of intel everywhere? Have they already fully infiltrated? This fast?"

Headquarters could hardly believe it was real.

Especially the commander, who kept his eyes fixed on the map.

"I still don’t believe it. Can this bunch really punch through my defensive line? Pass the word: everyone stay sharp. We’re up against special operators this time."

"Yes, sir!"

Nobody dared let their guard down. Since the enemy was here, they had to find ways to respond. But the situation only grew more critical.

The hospitals were seized, and all the schools—large, medium, and small—were under control. You could say that although it was only a couple of people at each point, the Blue Legion was already bleeding.

"You still planning to keep the main force here guarding me at headquarters? Get them dispersed—whatever it takes, those places have to be taken back."

"Yes, sir!"

Hearing this, Lin Beichen smiled.

"You’ve finished your missions. Start pulling out immediately, but before you withdraw, mark everything clearly. Wait for our main force to arrive."

Sure enough, the operation had been executed with real finesse. Their efforts on all fronts had driven the entire Blue Legion onto the back foot.

With support from the local civilians on top of that, you could say that although their numbers weren’t large, they’d fought a people’s war.

By nightfall, they regrouped.

"Listen up. From this moment, we start preparing for the next phase. Same as before: we’re going to penetrate their top headquarters."

The situation was beginning to shift.

"Chen Lin, this time you’re the main strike force. Remember, from here on out your unit may well be the one that breaks directly into their headquarters compound."

Those words set many hearts pounding.

"Sir! We’re capable of infiltrating too!"

Lin Beichen smiled faintly.

"I know. Not joining the decapitation op doesn’t sit well with anyone. But let me tell you, the reason we formed a women’s special ops team on short notice was to mislead the enemy. Their combat power is in no way inferior, isn’t that right?

But that doesn’t mean you’re out of work. Tonight you’ll break up into small elements, ten different teams, each with its own mission."

As it turned out, tonight’s tasks were anything but ordinary. Some teams had to head out to rescue officials who’d been ’detained’;

others had to race against the clock back to the TV station, doing whatever it took to regain control;

and still others needed to go to key enterprises to help restore production.

Everyone moved out at once.

Lin Beichen took three teams straight to the site, only to find the office building still heavily guarded on the outside.

"Any way to infiltrate directly?"

By now even the sewer system was under enemy control; getting in quietly was proving extremely difficult.

If they tried an air insertion by parachute, they’d almost certainly be spotted—this was a city, after all.

"I’ve got an idea."

Chen Lin’s eyes suddenly lit up with Spiritual Light.

"We’re a women’s spec-ops team; we’re harder to read. We managed to get into the TV station before, so this time we can use a similar method. Look, even if the sewers are a dead end..."

Everyone nodded.

"There’s a lake right behind this sector. Armed swimming—that was one of our training modules. I think this is a great opportunity, and we should take it."

Armed swimming?

Lin Beichen laughed.

It really was a good plan, but how to execute it was a concern.

"Trust us, boss. Nothing will go wrong. I guarantee everyone will complete the mission."

"Good."

That confidence was exactly what Lin Beichen wanted.

So Chen Lin led her team straight to the big lake nearby.

They began the armed swim, slipping into the water with their gear and quietly emerging at the rear of the office park.
