Afraid that Lin Beichen might get angry and give him a beating.

Lin Beichen comforted, "As long as you don't act recklessly, even if you're discovered, just stick close to me. I guarantee your chances of survival will greatly increase."

"Hmm, I understand this, of course."

Li Kui nodded.

Lin Beichen glanced at him, saying nothing more, uncertain whether Li Kui truly understood or was just pretending to.

But it didn't matter much to him; if Li Kui didn't value his own life, then it was up to him whether to heed the advice.

"But aren't you going to kill the leaders of the Beishi Mercenary Corps?" Even with no one around, Li Kui cautiously leaned towards Lin Beichen's ear, speaking in a low voice, afraid of being overheard and having their identities exposed.

Lin Beichen listened, speechless.

Li Kui's behavior was exactly like "no silver under here, three hundred taels."

Luckily, no one was around. Otherwise, with Li Kui's sneaky demeanor, people would already suspect what he was doing here.

"Yeah, but do you know where the leaders of the Beishi Mercenary Corps are?"

To Li Kui's question, Lin Beichen was also feeling quite speechless.

Upon hearing this, Li Kui shook his head and said, "No, I don't."

"You don't know, and neither do I, so we can only wander around, take chances, and see if we can find them."

When Li Kui heard this, he suddenly found it quite reasonable, "You're right, but doing so could easily expose our identities."

"If exposed, there's no choice but to fight hard." Lin Beichen said with a calm look.

Yet this calm tone scared Li Kui half to death.

But Li Kui couldn't think of any good way to persuade Lin Beichen not to do so.

He could only hope that Lin Beichen could quickly find out where the leaders of the Beishi Mercenary Corps were.

"Got it!" Lin Beichen, walking along, suddenly had his eyes light up, showing a joyful expression on his face.

Because under the system scan, he discovered that ahead, there seemed to be an area with a particularly high number of patrols, almost comparable to the outer wall's patrolling enemies.

That place must be protecting some important person.

Otherwise, there wouldn't be a need to send so many there, patrolling without sleep late at night.

"What did you find?" Li Kui asked curiously.

Lin Beichen explained, "There are quite a few patrols ahead, presumably protecting the important figures of the Beishi Mercenary Corps."

"Where?" Upon hearing about several patrol enemies ahead, Li Kui immediately became scared and anxiously looked around.

Lin Beichen glanced at him and said, "It's quite far away; you can't see it at all."

"Besides, they can't see you either, so don't be so afraid, alright?"

Upon hearing this, Li Kui slowly calmed down. But he suddenly thought of something and curiously asked, "How do you know about this?"

"How I know—don't worry about it."

Lin Beichen didn't want to explain it to him, as doing so would expose the system.

Seeing Lin Beichen saying so, Li Kui didn't ask any further.

He understood that everyone has their own secrets.

He felt relieved for not probing further because if Lin Beichen someday found it inappropriate to share this secret, he might get rid of him on a whim.

"Stay steady; let's first pretend to be part of the Beishi Mercenary Corps and see if they'll let us in."

Lin Beichen, after some thought, said.

Li Kui swallowed his saliva, feeling apprehensive: you really have guts, pulling off yet another nerve-wracking stunt.

They had used this trick to sneak in before, and now they were going to do it again?

"We'll soon enter their line of sight. When they ask anything, keep quiet and let me do the talking." Lin Beichen reminded once more.

Afterward, they continued walking forward for a few dozen meters when suddenly, three men jumped out from the bushes on the right.

Each of the three held a rifle and wore a bulletproof vest, clearly not easy people to mess with.

"Who's in charge of you two?"

The patrolling enemy in front asked Lin Beichen and Li Kui.

So late at night, if not for their outfits matching their own, these enemies would've long been suspicious enough to open fire.

"Isn't there a rule about not getting near this place?"

"Are you newbies?"

Another one said fiercely, in a manner suggesting if Lin Beichen and the others uttered any wrong word, they would immediately fire, taking down Lin Beichen and Li Kui.

Li Kui, remembering Lin Beichen's reminder, stayed silent. Even if he were to answer, he wouldn't have known what to say.

"We are indeed new here, and just forgot this rule for a moment."

"Who's inside, not even letting us in?" Lin Beichen thought for a moment, choosing a plausible response.

Upon hearing Lin Beichen's words, one of them seemed dissatisfied.

Suddenly, he raised his gun, pointing it at Lin Beichen, loudly asking, "Who brought you in? Who's in charge?"

At this moment, Li Kui felt his heart leap into his throat.

He wasn't an actual newbie of the Beishi Mercenary Corps; how would he know who brought them in or who their boss was?

Lin Beichen wasn't as scared; even if their identities were exposed, the ones in trouble would be these three.

Because once Lin Beichen's identity was exposed, these three enemies were the ones facing death for sure.

But right now, they hadn't been completely exposed; they were only under suspicion, still having room to maneuver, albeit needing a bit of luck.

Lin Beichen pondered briefly, then casually said, "The person who brought us in seems to have the surname Li."

After saying so, Lin Beichen watched the three enemies in front of him; should his cover be blown, he would deal with them swiftly.

Unexpectedly, upon his words, the one suspecting them actually lowered the gun.

Could it be he actually hit the mark? Is there indeed a high-ranking officer surnamed Li in the Beishi Mercenary Corps?

Li Kui felt a glimmer of hope returning.

Those three patrolling enemies glanced at Lin Beichen, then said, "So it was Officer Li Xinhe who brought you in; don't wander around aimlessly."

"Hurry back to sleep; this isn't a place for idling."

Lin Beichen nodded, saying nothing more.

When unaware of the internal situation of the Beishi Mercenary Corps, it was best to speak less; even a small detail might expose them.

Subsequently, Li Kui turned, intending to leave.

But Lin Beichen didn't plan on leaving.

He thought if he left now, he wouldn't know where to go.

He might as well check out this patrol-dense area and see if it indeed led to the Beishi Mercenary Corps' leaders.

But the defense here was truly formidable; sneaking in without alerting them was nearly impossible, especially while dragging Li Kui, this "deadweight."

So they had to take yet another risk.

Seeing Lin Beichen not leaving, Li Kui turned, puzzled, looking at him, feeling anxious inside.

What's going on with you? Didn't you say not to easily expose our identities?

They told us to go; why aren't you leaving?

This would only make them more suspicious, wouldn't it?

Those three patrolling enemies found it strange seeing Lin Beichen not leaving immediately.

One of them, looking quite displeased at this newcomer, warned sternly.

"Didn't we ask you to leave?"

"You..."

Before he could finish his sentence.

Suddenly, Lin Beichen pointed to a spot beside them and said, "Hey, look at that over there."

Upon hearing him, all three patrol men curiously looked in the direction Lin Beichen pointed.

Oh no, even Li Kui couldn't help but glance that way in curiosity.

He soon found that the place Lin Beichen pointed to had nothing — just an ordinary patch of grass.

After a short while, he realized that Lin Beichen was fooling these three guys.

At which point wouldn't these three further doubt their identities?

But turning back again, he was shocked to find that the three patrolling enemies now clutched their necks, faces displaying painful expressions.

After not too long, they each fell silently.

Lin Beichen then casually walked to one of the fallen enemies, dragging him aside.

However, upon seeing Li Kui standing there dumbfounded, he said in annoyance, "Are you looking to get caught by the enemy or what?"
