Chapter 1541: Chapter 774: Target Located? (Part 2)
Li Kui felt under immense pressure.
He really wanted to stop and say he couldn’t run anymore, but feared exposing himself and getting taken out by Lin Beichen.
But if he didn’t think of a solution quickly, they’d soon arrive at the Beishi Mercenary Corps base.
Once there, he’d have no choice; whether he wanted to or not, he’d have to go in.
Lost in thought, Li Kui’s pace gradually slowed down.
Lin Beichen caught up from behind and asked, "Why’d you stop running?"
Li Kui was scared to death inside but maintained calm on the surface, saying, "Running for so long is kind of tiring, honestly."
"Why don’t you go ahead? I’ll rest for a bit and catch up later."
We’ll see if you try sneaking away later.
Lin Beichen found it amusing but didn’t reveal Li Kui’s intent to escape.
"Oh, I’m a bit tired too, let’s rest together then, we’re almost there anyway," Lin Beichen responded flatly.
Truth was, even after carrying Emily for a stretch, Lin Beichen was incredibly fit, and this distance really meant nothing to him; he was only pretending to be tired to keep an eye on Li Kui.
After saying that, Lin Beichen put Emily down from his back.
Emily had been happily enjoying her piggyback ride, but Li Kui’s antics pissed her off, and she snapped at him, "Just a short run and you’re already claiming you’re tired, are you acting like a girl?"
"Or do you want Brother Lin to carry you too?"
Emily’s sharp tongue spared no one.
Li Kui was speechless; it wasn’t that he felt tired, but if he didn’t pretend to be, there’d be no chance to escape.
After a short rest, even Emily felt refreshed enough to run again, so Lin Beichen prepared to set off once more.
This time, Li Kui couldn’t suggest stopping or waiting any longer.
Especially since the girl had already rested, claiming he hadn’t would be indefensible.
Reluctantly, Li Kui confronted the one place he dreaded most.
It was the high wall surrounding the Beishi Mercenary Corps base.
The walls were lined with sentries, each equipped with searchlights and guns, patrolling densely, leaving no chance to sneak in unnoticed.
Lin Beichen signaled Emily and Li Kui to come closer.
"We can’t go any further; we might get detected by the enemy."
"Emily, stay nearby, find somewhere concealed to hide, and wait for my return."
Lin Beichen patted her head, handed her a handgun, and advised, "Be cautious, don’t shoot unless you’re absolutely sure you’re unnoticed; it would attract more enemies."
Faced with the reality, Emily couldn’t help but worry.
She looked at Lin Beichen with a heavy heart and said, "I’ll be careful."
"You take care too, come back quickly; I’ll be waiting right here for you."
Li Kui stayed silent next to them, since no one spoke to him.
Witnessing their farewells, he couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.
Quickly return? Returning at all is uncertain.
Afterward, Lin Beichen tugged him along slowly ahead.
The patrol was extremely tight; should they really confront them head-on?
Lin Beichen cautiously observed the enemies atop the wall, pondering solutions.
Li Kui worriedly watched the enemies too, fearing what they’d face if detected, likely ending up riddled with bullets.
He was unsure what Lin Beichen planned, but if Lin Beichen intended to charge in directly,
Li Kui wouldn’t hesitate to turn and flee, regardless if Lin Beichen would retaliate.
Obviously, Lin Beichen wouldn’t do something so reckless.
Sneaking in failed, so now they’ll try disguising themselves.
Lin Beichen deemed this idea feasible.
Though they’d first need two sets of enemy uniforms.
They’d have to seize the right moment, or think of another method.
Coincidentally, as Lin Beichen racked his brains, a car emerged from Beishi Mercenary Corps’ base, seemingly headed out for errands.
"Let’s follow it." Lin Beichen crouched low, moving toward the vehicle.
Li Kui hesitated for a while before gritting his teeth, deciding to follow Lin Beichen.
Between dying later and immediately, he ultimately chose the former.
Refusing Lin Beichen now would mean facing immediate death.
That late-night darkness swallowed everything, the road was bumpy, and the car moved sluggishly.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Beichen sneaked close to the car under the nightshade.
Then he swiftly lunged toward the driver’s side, sticking to the car, reaching inside through the window, and neatly stabbing the occupant with a knife.
There they were, peacefully seated inside, when death unexpectedly emerged from the roadside.
Beside him, Li Kui was dumbfounded.
Lin Beichen was amazingly decisive, dispatching enemies seated in the car as effortlessly as slicing vegetables.
Coincidentally, two were seated, and the one in the passenger seat froze in shock.
With the driver dispatched, the car naturally came to a halt.
Thankfully, the car was already moving slowly and coasted slightly further before halting completely.
The passenger was already lifeless.
Dealt with in one swift move by Lin Beichen.
After that, Lin Beichen noticed Li Kui’s stunned expression, he’d slaughtered two people as casually as chickens, showing no hints of pride or fear.
"Put on this other guy’s clothes."
After giving those instructions, Lin Beichen swiftly changed into his set.
Then he drove, taking Li Kui along as they returned the way they came.
Li Kui seeing Lin Beichen’s actions, instantly grasped his plan, his heart sinking.
"We’re just heading straight back this way?"
Though risky, it might let them slip unnoticed into the base.
"What if we’re discovered?" Li Kui stuttered with fear.
Not everyone is as fearless as Lin Beichen, acting so daringly and recklessly.
Lin Beichen calmly replied, "If we’re discovered, we’ll just have to barrel through."
Li Kui admired this about Lin Beichen, his ability to nonchalantly say such perilous, almost suicidal things.
Seeing Lin Beichen determined to drive into the Beishi Mercenary Corps base, Li Kui knew there was no changing his mind.
Unless he could instantly devise a better plan.
At such a crucial moment, how could Li Kui think of a superior idea in such short time?
As the car came into view of the Beishi Mercenary Corps base wall sentries, Li Kui’s heart leapt to his throat.
To his surprise, instead of firing on them, the enemies opened the gates, letting them pass.
In that instant, Li Kui felt like he’d narrowly escaped death, his heart shouting with relief.
When they drove into the base, one guard asked, "You were just out, heading to Wood Stone Town for a good time, why return so soon?"
Either the darkness confused them, or the guards weren’t familiar with the earlier men who left; regardless, they failed to recognize Lin Beichen and Li Kui weren’t from Beishi Mercenary Corps.
Expecting Li Kui to explain was futile.
Lin Beichen replied in a hushed tone, "Left in a rush, forgot money, just fetching it."
Li Kui wiped sweat from his forehead, muttering internally about the flimsy excuse.
Yet unbelievably, the enemies accepted it.
Thus, they drove the car completely inside the Beishi Mercenary Corps base.
Once inside, Lin Beichen immediately used the system to scan the surroundings.
Because he had no idea where to steer; driving to the wrong spot could easily get them recognized.
