Chapter 1530: Chapter 769: A Difficult Journey

The gloomy sky made the room dim and oppressive as well.

Lin Beichen was lying comfortably on the soft bed. This sleep was especially sweet; it had been a long time since he’d slept this soundly.

The only flaw was, sometime in the middle of the night, something started pressing down on half of his body.

But strangely, that weight didn’t make him feel uncomfortable at all—on the contrary, it gave him a kind of indescribable sense of comfort. So he didn’t force himself to wake up.

After all, Lin Beichen was quite confident in his Perception. As soon as danger or hostility approached, he’d immediately notice it. And right now, he wasn’t sensing any hint of hostility or danger.

He had no idea how long he’d slept. Lin Beichen only felt that his arm was being pressed so hard the blood couldn’t circulate, numb to the point it was about to cramp.

He opened his eyes in a daze.

The moment his eyes opened, his hair stood on end and his heart started pounding uncontrollably.

Right in front of him was a small, delicate face like a porcelain doll, currently resting contentedly on his arm, sleeping soundly.

Who else could it be but Emily.

Lin Beichen subconsciously tried to pull his arm back.

But the moment he exerted a little force, the sleeping Emily seemed to sense something. Her brows knitted slightly, looking like she was about to be startled awake.

Lin Beichen was so spooked he froze, lying flat on his back, shutting his eyes and pretending to still be fast asleep.

What the hell happened yesterday?

How did Emily end up sleeping together with him?

He remembered he’d just meant to lie on the bed and rest for a bit—how did he doze off like that...

Taking advantage of the moment, Lin Beichen started replaying yesterday’s events in his head.

Seeing that Emily hadn’t woken up from his earlier attempt to move his arm, Lin Beichen let out a long breath of relief, then carefully lifted his arm again, planning to slide it out from beneath Emily’s fair neck.

But to Lin Beichen’s complete surprise, before he could even start, Emily moved first.

She suddenly rolled to the side, and with that motion, a fair arm naturally swung over Lin Beichen’s neck, then wrapped tightly around him.

Lin Beichen felt his scalp go numb and kept muttering internally, How the hell am I supposed to get out of this now?

As he thought and thought, his eyelids grew heavier, drowsiness washed over him, and he actually drifted off again for a second round of sleep.

Not long after, Emily woke up.

The moment she opened her eyes, she sensed something was off—she seemed to be holding someone in her arms.

In an instant, her delicate pretty face flushed crimson, like the evening glow at the horizon.

But then she seemed to think of something, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly in a barely noticeable arc. She stayed perfectly still, choosing to keep pretending to be asleep.

After a while, Lin Beichen was also woken up by a full bladder.

He turned his head to look and saw Emily still asleep beside him. His heart instantly tangled up; he really wanted to flip over and get up.

But he was worried that when Emily woke and questioned why the two of them had ended up sleeping in each other’s arms, he wouldn’t know how to explain.

Very soon, Lin Beichen felt he was about to reach his limit.

Forget it, whatever. Bathroom first. If he held it in any longer, he’d give himself a problem, and that’d be even more embarrassing.

So, feeling nervous and uneasy, he slowly lifted his arm.

However, he never would have guessed that Emily actually hadn’t been asleep at all.

Just as Lin Beichen raised his arm, Emily suddenly opened her eyes.

Their gazes met, and Lin Beichen’s eyes were full of awkwardness.

Emily looked at him with open confusion—but if one looked closely, they’d notice a trace of sly amusement hiding in her eyes.

"I need to go to the bathroom." Lin Beichen was the first to break the awkward silence; honestly, he really couldn’t hold it anymore.

Once he finished, he ignored Emily’s half-smiling look, braced himself, pulled his arm completely free, then hurriedly climbed out of bed and rushed into the bathroom.

When he came out of the bathroom, Lin Beichen splashed water on his face. He still found it hard to believe that things between him and Emily had progressed to this point.

Back in the room, he saw Emily still sitting on the bed, staring out the window, no idea what she was thinking.

Lin Beichen decided to just turn the page on this and pretend nothing had happened.

After all, nothing actually substantial had happened yesterday.

"Let’s go. We’re heading to the Beishi Mercenary Corps." Lin Beichen tried to make his voice sound as flat as possible.

Emily turned back to look at him, her eyes holding a hint of playful complaint and mild resentment.

Lin Beichen quickly turned his head away, pretending he hadn’t noticed.

After that, the two of them had breakfast, refueled at a nearby gas station, then Emily drove them out of Mo City, heading toward their destination—the Beishi Mercenary Corps.

On the way, Emily would glance now and then at Lin Beichen in the passenger seat, checking what he was up to.

But when she looked over, she saw Lin Beichen sitting steady in the passenger seat, eyes closed, looking all relaxed, like he was calmly recharging his batteries.

Seeing this, a nameless fire flared up in Emily’s heart, mixed with a bit of disappointment.

Hmph. Didn’t expect this guy to just run away from anything that had to do with her, like it wasn’t worth thinking about at all.

The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she got, and she couldn’t help but speak with a sarcastic lilt: "Wow, you sure slept soundly yesterday."
