Children of a Lesser God

Chapter 775: The Elder Fae’s Summons

  • Next Chapter

The elder spirits didn’t look impressed and instead seemed like they wanted nothing more than to tear the old king apart. Even if he was an ancient god of the sea, the elder spirits power was enough to end him and his entire army with just a few of them, much less with all dozen who had gathered, some of whom looked far more lively than the old ice spirit.

The thing that finally stopped them was an elf like creature with green hair and red eyes who stood in the air, staring at the scene before it.

"Elder spirits? What has caused you all to delay here? The great queen has requested your presence at the mother tree?" Came a voice that Laz didn’t recognize from a person who obviously belonged to the same race as his master.

While the spirits still glared at the fish people army, the water spirit separated from the group and flew up to where the young man was standing above them before speaking in a language that Laz didn’t recognize.

"Ayyee. So you’re saying that they threatened a minor ice spirit and when the elder came for justice, the idiot on the lizard there decided to threaten the great elder which then ended up summoning you all? Alright. I understand. But for matters such as this, especially since no spirit was actually harmed, would the elder mind deferring punishment to the elders of my people? While they are obviously a lesser peoples, they are still citizens of this world and part of our world. Also, while it is no excuse, your people’s return to this world has caused quite a bit of confusion and the lesser beings are unaware of some of the many rules of the Fae. Please allow us to correct this misunderstanding at a later time so that we might gather in a timely fashion for the great Queen’s summons, yes? The young man asked before bowing deeply to the great elder ice spirit.

He wanted to reject considering how close the young spirit had been to dying.... but it hadn’t actually died and the elder saw the hurry in the eyes of the other elders. He hadn’t felt the summon until he had arrived on this plane, but now it was clear he needed to be there as well.

"So be it," The elder said before turning to the other elder spirits and nodding his head in thanks. They returned the gesture and all started heading east. None of them needing to ask where to go as they knew the way by instincts.

"As for the lot of you... You will be contacted soon enough. Return to your homes and wait for our ambassador to meet with you," The young man in the sky said, basically ordering for the king and his armies to return.

The king’s thoughts fought within him for a short time, the feeling of this young punk tell him, a king, what he should do fighting with the knowledge that the same young man was able to command a dozen elder spirits with only a few words to leave him and his kin alone. He finally nodded his understanding and turned to leave, beckoning his son and daughter to follow him.

While his son followed closely behind, his daughter, Minuw lagged behind, curious to know what would happen with the young man and the young human male.

The young man with green hair and red eyes had noticed the human, but had waited until all of the others left before turning to address him.

"You are marked by our people. Who is your master?" The young man asked, something in his voice putting Laz on edge.

Laz didn’t respond, instead raising the blade and pointing it at him.

"Heh. To think a mere human would ever raise a blade to their superiors. You think your special just because a member of royalty is backing you? Let me tell you now that most of them are nothing more than a waste of space and resources. The only ones that matter would never take a human as bonded, nor taint their blood in such a way. Your master must be trash to have placed their faith in you."

Laz didn’t think, he just acted. With a flash of lightning, he disappeared from where he was and reappeared right in front of the haughty young man, slapping him across the face with the back of his hand and sending his body flying off into the distance.

Another crack of lightning and the man was back, as though he hadn’t moved.

"You think a sneak attack like that could stop..." The young man didn’t have time to finish his words as Laz struck him again, another back hand that again sent him flying, the young man unable to block this attack either.

"I’LL KILL YOU!" The young man yelled when he reappeared, drawing forth a shimmering hammer from somewhere and swinging it hard at Laz, the hammer looking massive in the hands of the young man.

Laz raised J?rmungandr and swung it, as though the sword was as massive as the hammer, causing the young man to smile.

’What a fool to try to stop a god weapon with a mere sword.’

The smile on the man’s face disappeared in an instant as the hammer’s head hit the sword and was sliced cleanly in two before the shaft of the weapon exploded, causing the young man to fall back, blood dripping from his mouth and eyes as the backlash of the blow caused him great pain.

"WHAT? What... the hell... are you...?" The young man’s name was Trudis and was a member of a minor noble family. While their family wasn’t of the top ranks of the nobles, they had served the royal family for many years and had made many connections with other, more powerful noble houses. When those families had all decided to serve a certain prince in his bid for the crown, their family had followed along and were rewarded with several god weapons as compensation for their service, something that only the royal family could make anymore. Among the middle realm of noble families, they were one of the strongest thanks to those weapons.

And yet this human had destroyed such a weapon with a sword that didn’t even have the glow of a god weapon upon it.

"Impossible. This is fucking impossible," Trudis said, unable to accept that such a priceless weapon had just been destroyed by some nobody. He quickly touched a ring on right hand and twisted it, whispering something into it.

Several loud pops then echoed out and seven young men appeared, drawing their own weapons and coming to stand with the injured Trudis.

"What’s going on Trudy. For you to summon us like this, it must be serious. But all I see is a stupid human with a stick pointing at us."

"Yeah Trudy. Come on. You know we have our own zones to monitor while looking for other allies for the prince. Why did you send out such an SOS right now for something like this."

The ones who had joined them continued to complain until they noticed the severity of his injuries.

"Trudy?"

"He destroyed my god hammer of pain. DO NOT TAKE HIM LIGHTLY!" Trudis finally said, finding even speaking hard. Hearing this and knowing that while they made fun of him, Trudis wasn’t a weakling and since they were all in the same faction, they knew would need to fight this human to regain their factions honor. They could sense his marking, but since he was only a human, they really didn’t care who his backup was. Kill him first and apologize later, when they had a chance. That was the best way to deal with humans. And even if his master wanted to pursue the matter, such things could be dealt with using nothing more than a few golden energy stones. Humans were barely worth that much anyway.

"Heh. Let’s kill him and be done with it. We need to look for any promising spirits or gods to recruit before the assembly begins. We can figure out his owner later and deal with it then."

"Don’t forget to get his sword," Trudis said, panting. He saw what it could do and figured it would be a special weapon of some sort, something worth giving their lord.

"That thing? Alright Trudy. If you say so. Let’s hurry it up boys." They all charged together.

Laz wanted to laugh. These guys were gods, yes... but barely even middle realm gods. And they wanted to fight him? They were either ignorant or blind. The only question in Laz’s mind was should he kill them or not? They were, in the end, people of A’ruya’s race.

And almost the same moment Laz thought of A’ruya’s name, she appeared in front of the charge, causing the men to flinch, halt and then retreat in horror.

They all bowed as one before A’ruya spoke.

"Leave. NOW!" She bellowed and like she had lit their asses on fire, they flew away as fast as they could.

A’ruya didn’t turn around. Laz started to speak, but she raised her hand.

"The next time anyone dares to insult me, kill them. No matter who they are. I’ll call on you soon. Be ready for it," She said. And without so much as a wave, A’ruya vanished.

Laz flew there for a minute before laughing to himself.

She was still much stronger than him, even now.

’Seems like something big is happening? Hmm...’

Laz’s thoughts kept him company as he returned to the ship, the iced ocean rapidly turning back into gentle waves of water once again.
