Before his eyes, there was a brief blur.

Chen Ping realized that his surroundings had already changed.

He was neither on the battlefield nor in the woods.

Instead, he was in a room that felt both familiar and unfamiliar.

Familiar because it was a scene he’d long dreamed of and often recalled over the years.

Unfamiliar because he hadn’t seen this scene in a very long time, and he had thought he’d never see it again in his lifetime.

"Xiro, look at the empire I’ve built for you, this building, and this estate. From now on, it all belongs to us. No one will be able to stop the rise of the Ping’an Group.

We can have two children, a boy and a girl. Do you think it would be better to have a boy first or a girl?"

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass on the 108th floor, Chen Ping made a wide semi-circle gesture, smiling and slightly turning his head to look at the girl behind him.

But he didn’t notice the tears in her eyes or the small handgun that slipped out from her sleeve.

"Bang..."

The bullet came from behind, grazing Chen Ping’s heart and piercing through his chest.

This was an emergency warning from the Eight Trigrams Heart Method, allowing Chen Ping to slightly shift his body at the critical moment.

"I’m sorry."

The female voice was tearful, crying as she tried to pull the trigger again.

"Who haven’t you been sorry to? I’m the one blocking your way."

The girl didn’t realize that Chen Ping’s expression had turned ice-cold at that moment, clearly understanding what had transpired.

His body collapsed like a pile of soft mud, as if he had lost all his bones. With a sweep of his hand, the second bullet, carrying the scent of gunpowder, brushed past his hair as his hand reached underneath the carpet to draw out a slender Thrusting Sword.

The gleam of light flickered briefly.

The girl’s lovely face suddenly froze.

Looking down at the Long Sword piercing through her chest, her eyes were filled with disbelief.

She couldn’t believe that Chen Ping could still retaliate after being shot in the heart, nor could she believe that he would cruelly deliver such a deadly blow.

Just moments ago, she was imagining raising children together—was it all a lie?

A hint of venom flashed across the girl’s innocent face as the scene froze.

"Ah, what a good Spiritual Magic Technique, making me refine my mind once more." As Chen Ping blinked, Divine Arc Light flourished from his soul, electrical strands began to surge.

Deep inside the forest, a small snow-white Fox tilted its head back, letting out a muffled groan. Blood trickled from her emerald eyes, and under her little red nose, blood spurted forth.

She could no longer smile.

"No defense at all, yet I couldn’t breach his mental defenses. This young master is quite formidable."

The Little Fox’s pointed face bore a surprisingly defiant expression.

Her two fox paws waved heavily, drawing strange arcs in the air.

"Love and separation, desires unfulfilled..."

Then, the light and shadow before Chen Ping shifted again.

This time, Chen Ping was no longer in the towering building; instead, he was clad in comfortable pajamas, standing amidst a sprawling estate.

The estate was lined with various rare tree species, flourishing well, and not far off, there was a gleaming pool, its waters calm like a mirror—his private swimming pool.

In such an environment, it would be a waste to engage in any bloodshed. Instead, inviting a few beauties to frolic in the water would be fitting for such a splendid springtime.

However, upsetting the picture was the absence of any beauties or even caretakers or gardeners, all of whom had fled screaming, and from afar, the faint sounds of gunfire echoed.

Before Chen Ping stood a young man in a uniform, simple-faced and brimming with a sense of justice, holding a black handgun aimed at him.

The place where the wrought iron fence was cut open revealed lurking gun barrels, poised all around.

"Turn back, Brother Ping. Your hands are stained with blood; you mustn’t continue down this path. Over the years, all that you have done—how does it measure up to the Guo Family, to our grandfather below the Nine Springs?"

The young man spoke with righteous indignation; his grip on the gun was steady, clearly supported by an iron will.

"How have I wronged the Guo Family or grandfather, Pillar? You’re still young; there are some things you don’t understand."

Chen Ping’s eyes bore a heavy sorrow.

This was his younger brother, his blood brother.

Once admitted to the best school, the family celebrated with a three-day banquet, with relatives and friends all offering their praises and thumbs up.

Grandfather even broke his lifelong abstinence from alcohol that day, drinking until he was dead drunk.

Mother and father’s laughter nearly lifted the tiles off the third-floor roof.

Now, this family pride was pointing a gun at him...

He was no longer the little boy who used to tug on his clothes and follow timidly at his heels.

He had grown up.

"Pillar, if it’s a crime to kill a few scumbags, then I don’t concede. Why should I?"

Chen Ping didn’t mind if all the world thought him guilty; everyone’s stance and worldview might differ.

However, he absolutely could not accept even his family thinking he was guilty.

If, for eradicating those infinitely guilty existences, he was the one found guilty, then the fault lay with those who passed judgment.

"Actually, nothing would have happened if you had just run away, but why did you have to go and kill those people? What wrong did they do? They were good people, merely acting under orders."

The simple youth lamented, looking at Chen Ping as if he weren’t seeing his elder brother but a butcher, an executioner.

"Ah, acting under orders—you mean to say that it’s only the one holding the knife that’s wrong, and not the knife itself, is that it?"
