Chapter 373: Chapter 224: Jiang Ming Has to Call Him Brother-in-Law?! A Breakthrough with Yixia?
Jiang Sifan looked at her, suddenly feeling how quiet and warm this moment was.
A few seconds later, she opened her eyes and gently blew out the candle.
Jiang Sifan asked curiously, "What did you wish for? To score a six hundred?"
He Lingyi shook her head. She removed the candle from the cake and said mysteriously, "I can’t tell you. It won’t come true if I do."
Jiang Sifan laughed and teased her, "So mysterious. Alright, then."
He Lingyi lowered her head and cut a piece of cake with her little fork. Then she brought it to his lips, giggling. "Brother Sifan, here, let me feed you."
"No, thanks. You have it," Jiang Sifan gestured.
"But I want to feed you," He Lingyi pouted, her voice turning coquettish.
Seeing no way out, Jiang Sifan had no choice but to gently open his mouth and eat the cake He Lingyi fed him.
Seeing this, He Lingyi broke into a heartfelt smile.
’Actually, when she’d made her wish just now, it wasn’t about her exam score. She’d wished for Brother Sifan to have a peaceful and happy life. It wouldn’t even matter if she didn’t become his girlfriend after the college entrance exams.’
’Of course, she still hoped she would.’
While they were eating the cake, He Lingyi got mischievous. She suddenly stood up, dabbed her finger in some frosting, and poked his nose with it.
"What are you doing?" Jiang Sifan exclaimed, dodging backward.
He Lingyi giggled, dipped her finger in more frosting, and chased after him to smear it on him.
Jiang Sifan dodged a few times before dabbing some frosting himself and fighting back.
The two of them ran around the stone bench, their laughter carried away by the wind.
After a while of fooling around, He Lingyi was out of breath. She bent over, hands on her knees, panting.
She looked up, her face smudged with frosting, smiling so wide her eyes crinkled shut.
Jiang Sifan smiled too and reached out to wipe the frosting from her face.
The moment his fingers touched her cheek, she froze. She just stared at him, her eyes bright.
Jiang Sifan’s hand paused. Just as he was about to pull it back, he noticed that two buttons on her school uniform jacket had come undone while they were running. The collar of the sweater underneath was slightly open, revealing a small patch of fair skin.
The wind blew into her collar, pressing the sweater against her body and outlining the curve of her chest.
It wasn’t an intentional sexiness, but the natural softness of a young woman’s body.
The curve of her bust, wrapped in the white sweater, was faintly visible.
Jiang Sifan’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He quickly averted his eyes.
He Lingyi noticed his gaze and glanced down at her collar. Her face instantly flushed red.
But she didn’t button it up. Instead, she looked up at him with a smile playing on her lips, looking a little smug.
Jiang Sifan cleared his throat and turned his gaze toward the riverbank.
He Lingyi walked over and sat down beside him.
She slipped her arm through his and rested her head gently on his shoulder.
Jiang Sifan’s body tensed up again.
She could feel him tense up, but she didn’t let go. Instead, she leaned in even closer.
The wind blew in from the sea, brushing her hair against his face, tickling him.
"Brother Sifan," she said suddenly, her voice soft.
"Hm?"
"I had a great time today. Thank you."
Jiang Sifan didn’t say anything, but his face flushed slightly.
He Lingyi closed her eyes, resting against his shoulder.
She could hear Jiang Sifan’s heartbeat. THUMP-THUMP-THUMP. It was a bit fast.
She smiled to herself, not calling him out on it.
The sea breeze blew on. The candle had long since gone out, and half of the cake was left.
The streetlight stretched their shadows long, making them overlap until it was impossible to tell one from the other.
After a long time, He Lingyi said softly, "Brother Sifan, I should get back."
Jiang Sifan checked the time. It was 10:40.
He stood up, packed up the cake box, and got on his electric scooter.
He Lingyi got on the back. Just as before, she naturally wrapped her arms around his waist, this time even resting her head against his back.
Jiang Sifan could feel the softness against his back, and his mind started to wander.
When they reached the school gate, she hopped off the scooter and looked back at him.
Under the streetlight, her face was flushed and her eyes were shining. There was still a small smudge of frosting on her lips.
Seeing this, Jiang Sifan reached out and gently wiped her lips.
"Brother Sifan, thank you. The cake was delicious," she said with a smile.
Jiang Sifan nodded. "I had a great time too. You should head inside. Get some sleep."
He Lingyi turned to walk through the school gate. After a few steps, she glanced back at him again.
She waved, then turned and ran through the gate.
Jiang Sifan remained where he was, watching her silhouette disappear into the lamplight. He stood there for a long while.
He touched his face. It was still a little hot.
He smiled, got on his electric scooter, and headed off in the direction of the school.
...
Meanwhile, back in Qingshan Village.
Pan Lanfang got up in the middle of the night and missed a step.
With a muffled THUD, she collapsed onto the floor, the pain so intense she couldn’t even cry out.
Jiang Guoqiang was startled from his sleep. He fumbled for the light switch in the dark and turned it on to see her curled up on the floor, her face ashen.
"Lanfang! What’s wrong?" He scrambled out of bed and knelt down to help her.
Pan Lanfang gritted her teeth, her voice trembling. "I... I fell... My back... It hurts so much..."
The color drained from Jiang Guoqiang’s face, and his hands began to tremble.
He helped her onto the bed. Pan Lanfang was in so much pain that she broke out in a cold sweat, and she had bitten her lip so hard it was bleeding.
"I’m calling Yixia... and Xiaoming..." Jiang Guoqiang picked up his phone, his hands shaking.
Pan Lanfang grabbed his hand, her voice weak. "Don’t... Don’t worry them... It’s the middle of the night..."
"How can I not call at a time like this!" Jiang Guoqiang’s eyes were red with panic. He flung her hand away and immediately dialed Jiang Ming’s number.
