Cast as the Foil, She Went Viral on a Military Reality Show
Chapter 73: So Envious
Chapter 73: Chapter 73: So Envious
Zara Chapman was actually quite composed: "I just lost my footing earlier, didn’t expect Miles Yates would be unsteady too..."
The viewers in the livestream were all worried about Miles Yates’s injuries; at first they weren’t that mad, but after hearing her say that, they were so angry their lungs could burst.
[Zara, if you hadn’t grabbed at my brother, he wouldn’t have fallen and gotten hurt. Do you seriously not feel the slightest bit of remorse?]
[Exactly, any normal person would apologize first in this situation, but instead Zara’s blaming Miles for not standing properly? What kind of person is this? I’m so pissed off!]
[Zara always relies on her seniority, completely disregards her teammates, acts like everyone should prop her up. People like her are disgusting.]
[Still remember one time on a show, a newcomer brought her a water cup, she didn’t even say thank you, just took for granted other people’s help. When things blew up, it was the newcomer forced to apologize and quit the industry, vanished from showbiz, and now you can’t even find her—ha, analyze this for yourself.]
Renee Morgan and Lynn Miller’s expressions were pretty unpleasant; now that things had come to this, neither wanted to argue with Zara and just kept quiet with grim faces.
Wendy Aldridge deliberately tried to please Zara; seeing the situation, she comforted gently and warmly: "Miles got hurt, we’re all upset—Ms. Chapman surely didn’t want this to happen either."
Zara had been a bit shaken from the fall earlier; hearing Wendy’s soothing words, her eyes instantly reddened and she hugged Wendy, quietly sobbing. She’d been shocked herself, but not one person bothered to care about her.
Wendy Aldridge coaxed patiently; even though she was a young girl, she acted more like a big sister than Zara—and some guys are drawn to this type.
[Wendy Aldridge is just too nice, she’s gentle with everyone.]
[If my girlfriend had even a tenth of Wendy’s temperament, I’d be grateful. The patience to comfort me whenever I screw up, I’d die willingly for her.]
[But for real, do guys all like this kind of "green tea" girl? It blows my mind!]
[Is liking Wendy Aldridge really that outrageous? Honestly, I think women in Z-country should learn from Wendy—just saying, it’d really help with family harmony.]
[...] The comments gradually devolved into chaos, tearing each other apart.
The group set out again; Kyle Beckett refused to walk with Zara, heading up the front alone.
Renee walked slowly, always watching her footing, wanting to find the wild greens her grandma used to show her—but she couldn’t spot any and felt a bit disappointed.
The sun was getting stronger; everyone’s stamina was starting to fail, so they sat under a big tree to rest.
Zara and Wendy were starving, watching Renee and the others still able to sit calmly—they felt resentful. Those two had eaten mushrooms yesterday, so they weren’t suffering, while Zara and Wendy were about to die of hunger.
After sitting a while, Zara stood up: "We should head out again; if we don’t find food, it’ll get dark soon."
Renee and the rest got up and followed her forward.
Zara and Wendy walked in the same direction; Zara kept clutching Wendy’s backpack, making Wendy’s walk difficult, but Wendy never complained, occasionally looking back to warn Zara about thorns ahead so she wouldn’t get scratched.
Zara was grateful to Wendy, promising her in low whispers more than once during their walk: after this show, she’d bring Wendy along for future shoots, help her get better resources, recommend Wendy to all the directors she knew whenever there was a good script.
Many current top starlets get their resources from seniors—fastest way to break out.
Wendy heard this, felt over the moon, and treated Zara even better—secretly mocking Renee Morgan and Lynn Miller. They’re just nobodies: a taekwondo coach with zero connections, and Kyle Beckett, sure he’s an industry guy but barely a D-lister. No matter how close Renee is to them, what good does it do?
Is it for future unemployment so they can introduce each other to jobs?
Wendy shook her head with a sigh; Renee seemed clever but was actually stupid—not realizing the most important asset in showbiz is connections. Without someone to lift you up, even with the best qualifications, it’s almost impossible to break out in a capital-controlled industry.
Zara might not be a big investor, but her network is a pipeline to success; if she’s willing to help, her connections become yours—how can you not make it?
Zara and Wendy, by accident, actually stumbled on a few fruit trees.
Wendy was delighted, but something felt off—why was the ground she was stepping on so soft, and kept sinking?
Wendy’s body went cold; she quickly lifted her right foot and pulled back. Looking as if nothing happened, she turned to Zara and exclaimed excitedly, "Ms. Chapman, that’s an apple tree—I need to go notify Renee and the others to come over. You can sit under that tree ahead for a bit."
Before Zara could object, Wendy helped her over to sit under a tree.
Zara enjoyed Wendy’s care, instinctively said: "You’re always thinking about everyone; not sure if anyone else ever thinks about us..." Her voice dropped at the end—only the two could hear.
Wendy smiled: "We’re a team. Helping and looking out for each other, that’s how it should be."
After saying this, Wendy ran toward Renee Morgan’s group.
As she ran, she instinctively trod through the grass, inconspicuously scraping mud off her shoes. Once they were almost clean, she spotted Renee resting under a tree—everyone worn out from failing to find food.
Renee picked a leaf to fan herself, hoping to cool off a bit.
Wendy saw Renee alone and flashed a look of excitement. She hadn’t even gotten close before calling out cheerfully: "Renee Morgan, we found fruit trees up ahead—come check them out!"
Renee saw how happy Wendy was, didn’t suspect anything, and followed her toward the fruit trees.
"Renee, can you climb trees?" Wendy asked with a chuckle.
Renee: "Depends how tall the tree is."
Wendy: "So you can, awesome! I’ve never dared to do that—when I was little, my mom always said only wild country kids do stuff like that. I still regret not having a carefree childhood."
Renee wasn’t sure what Wendy was getting at, so she stayed silent.
Wendy glanced at her secretly, then said carefully: "I didn’t mean anything bad. My mom’s definitely wrong saying that—actually, I really envy country life."
Wendy knew Renee’s family was generations of martial artists. If you want to make it sound grand it’s a Martial Arts Clan, but honestly, not much different from Lynn Miller’s taekwondo coach background.
