CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 97: THE FIRST MANIFESTATION

Caius opened his physical eyes, the cool morning air of the subterranean courtyard filling his lungs with a crisp, damp freshness. He stood up from the worn temple steps, his boots making a quiet, crisp sound on the worn obsidian floor.

The vast courtyard was completely empty, shrouded in the grey twilight of the deep realm. Orven had not yet arrived for the morning session, leaving Caius with a rare window of complete, undisturbed isolation.

Now, Caius thought.

He closed his eyes, focusing his mind inward on the black obsidian thread anchored deep inside his soul sea. The thread thrummed with a steady, living pulse, carrying a silent command directly to the Flame Demon standing patiently in the shadow of the core's temple.

Caius extended his right palm toward the open center of the courtyard. He didn't force his mana, nor did he attempt to tear open a raw, chaotic spatial rip. Instead, he channeled a thin, controlled stream of Crown mana through the tether, sending the key resonance across the delicate boundary between worlds.

A dark, ripple-like distortion spread outward across the stone floor, silent and smooth like oil on water.

Unlike his previous failed attempts, there was no violent shockwave, no dangerous backfire of compressed mana, and no wall of spatial rejection. The ancient stone floor beneath his hand simply yielded. A pool of pitch-black liquid fire bubbled up from the solid rock, expanding rapidly until it covered a wide, ten-foot circle.

The ambient air temperature in the cavern plummeted instantly. It was not a natural cold, but rather a chilling vacuum because the emerging construct was actively sucking the residual heat out of the surrounding atmosphere to feed its dense core.

From the bubbling black pool, two colossal, horn-like projections breached the surface, followed by a massive, heavily armored skull. The entity rose slowly into the physical realm, no longer a chaotic red ember, but a terrifying Black Flame Demon. Shrouded in liquid, obsidian fire that clung to its frame like burning molten glass, its towering twelve-foot form blocked out the torchlight burning behind it.

The construct did not roar, nor did it thrash. The memories and chaotic ego that once defined it were gone forever, replaced entirely by absolute, unwavering obedience. It stood motionless in the center of the yard, its molten, hollow eyes fixed solely on Caius, waiting for a single command.

Caius stepped closer, raising a hand toward the entity's chest. The heat radiating off its form was immense, yet the black thread wrapped securely around his wrist ensured the flames did not scorch his skin. The spatial key held perfectly, keeping the entity's physical mass and dark mana signature fully stabilized in the physical realm.

"Dismiss," Caius commanded softly, his voice carrying the absolute, unyielding authority of a master revoking permission to exist.

Without a second of hesitation, the Black Flame Demon dissolved cleanly back into the dark pool, its towering mass retracting instantly across the threshold as it was reclaimed by the Crown Core.

Caius didn't stop there. Over the next hour, he summoned and dismissed the entity a dozen times, testing different spawn points, speeding up the manifestation time, and forcing the construct to emerge directly from shadows along the cavern walls. Each transition was flawless. The key held without a single flicker of spatial friction.

It was an absolute success.

Caius finally dispersed the portal as he felt a familiar spatial ripple near the stone archway. Orven was approaching.
