CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 109: THUNDER IN THE LOOM
In the deepest subterranean chamber of House Vel'drin, where the static-charged mists of the clan’s private weather array hung heavy in the dark, Caius stood alone.
It had been eight months since the tribunal envoys departed. Eight months of absolute isolation, broken only by the rhythmic hum of ancient stone and the crackle of localized lightning.
Caius raised his right hand, his palm open and facing the jagged basalt targets lined up fifty paces away. He closed his eyes, sinking his consciousness deep into his soul sea, where the three pillars of the Crown Core stood locked in complete harmony.
The third pillar, representing the purified essence of the Sabre Lightning Tiger, thrummed with dense, dark purple energy.
"Eye of the Loom," Caius whispered.
His pale irises shifted into liquid obsidian, microscopic arcs of purple electricity dancing within his pupils. But instead of simply casting a standard Spatial Lock or deploying basic silk threads, Caius forced his spatial mana and the newly refined lightning energy to circulate through his meridians simultaneously.
Thunder-Thread Synthesis.
Five razor-thin, pitch-black threads shot from his fingertips. Unlike standard spatial threads, which were completely invisible and silent, these threads were wrapped in a tight, spiraling sheath of hyper-compressed, dark purple lightning. They vibrated at such an extreme frequency that the air around them hummed like an angry hornets' nest.
With a flick of his wrist, Caius drove the threads into the lead target.
ZIP-THUMP!
There was no explosion, no grand flash of light. The lightning-sheathed threads passed through the ten-inch-thick solid basalt as if it were soft butter, slicing the rock into six perfectly smooth, glowing-red slabs. A fraction of a second later, the residual spatial pressure inside the cuts imploded, while the lightning discharge incinerated the stone into fine, ionized ash.

Caius analyzed the result with a detached, clinical gaze.
The penetration speed has increased by three hundred percent, he noted internally. The spatial cutting edge handles the density, while the lightning kinetic frequency prevents friction resistance. But the mana consumption is still too high for sustained combat.
"Still over-complicating it, kid," a raspy voice called out from the darkness above.
Old Bones dropped down from an overhanging vault ledge, landing silently on the stone floor. He wore his usual faded leather tunic, but his eyes were sharp, scanning the disintegrated target with quiet awe.
"Master Old Bones," Caius acknowledged, letting the threads snap back into his skin.
"You're treating the lightning like armor on your threads," Old Bones said, stepping closer and kicking a piece of ionized ash. "You're wrapping the elemental energy around the spatial frame. That causes drag. If an elite Nyx'ari Shadowblade gets inside your range during the Trial of Fate, that split-second delay in your thread deployment will cost you your head."
Caius tilted his head slightly. "Then how do I fuse them without drag?"
"Don't wrap it," Old Bones advised, mimicking a stabbing motion with his hand. "Conduct it. Space isn't a wire, Caius. It is the room the wire sits in. Make the lightning be the thread's kinetic core, and let the spatial pressure act as the sheath."
Caius stood frozen for a long moment, internalizing the old assassin's advice. His Crown Core flickered within his chest, re-routing the circulation pathways of the Calamity Forge.
He raised his hand once more.
This time, when he deployed the five threads, they didn't hum or emit a loud discharge. Instead, five pitch-black lines tore through the air in absolute, terrifying silence, until they struck the second basalt target.
KRA-THOOOM!
A blinding, zero-distance shockwave of dark purple thunder detonated inside the stone target, shattering it into a cloud of dust before the sound of the launch even echoed in the chamber.
Old Bones blinked, taking a half-step back as a cool breeze swept past his face. A slow, proud grin spread across his scarred features.
"Lethal," Old Bones muttered softly. "You've built a technique that pierces defenses like a spatial blade and detonates like a mountain-level lightning strike from the inside out."
Caius lowered his hand, his breathing calm and steady. Deep within his soul sea, the three pillars resonated in total equilibrium.
The year was almost over. His sixteenth birthday and the Trial of Fate were only days away.
