Chapter 247

Alex walked back toward his car, trying his best to ignore the little gremlin’s loud laughing. Sometimes he found himself wondering how could something so small, laugh this loud?

[Bwahahaha! Alex, did you see how scary you looked to those guys back there? Gosh, I almost died from laughing so hard!]

The little gremlin couldn’t help saying again, all while still laughing like crazy.

[Did you see how all of them pissed their pants like little kids the moment you twisted that ugly one’s hand? That was priceless! Ugh I wish I had a camera, but no worries with my big Brain I’m sure I’ll be able to remember that one for years!]

"Yeah, yeah, I get it, it was funny," Alex muttered under his breath, while being careful not to move his lips too much as he passed by a group of students walking the other way. "Can we please move on now?"

[Fine, fine, no need to be so grumpy about it,] the system said, still giggling a little. [So, what are you going to do about that Henry guy? Are you going to get your revenge for trashing our baby right now, or are you going to wait a bit first?]

Alex thought about it for a moment before answering. "I’m not really sure yet," he said quietly, while keeping his voice low. "But that bastard is definitely going to get what’s coming to him. I just need to think about the best way to do it. I don’t want to rush this and end up messing things up."

As he kept talking, he slowly started to notice that most of the people who were walking past him kept giving him these strange, awkward looks. A couple of girls even whispered something to each other while staring at him like he had lost his mind. With his good hearing he was able to catch the gist of it.

One was asking why some random guy was talking to himself on the sidewalk in the middle of the day. While the other said it’s a pity that such a handsome guy was running crazy.

Alex sighed and spoke to the system in his head instead of out loud this time, since talking to the invisible system in public was just going to make people think he was crazy. Besides he didn’t want a situation where someone would suddenly call a physiciatric hospital or the cops.

’Hey, can you go to sleep or something? People are starting to look at me weird. I don’t want anyone thinking I’ve gone crazy and calling the cops on me.’

[Fine, fine, no need to be so dramatic about it,] the chibi huffed, while crossing her tiny arms, before her presence slowly faded back into the depths of his mind, leaving him in blissful silence at last.

Not long after that, Alex finally reached his car. He stopped right in front of it and let out a long, tired sigh as he looked over the ugly graffiti still covering the hood and doors. The stupid spray paint done by those idiots was still wet in some spots, and the smell of it made his nose twitch.

"At least they didn’t do anything worse," he muttered to himself while running a hand through his hair. "Lucky for me it wasn’t a slashed tire or a smashed window from a baseball bat. Sigh. This is still something I can fix. I just need to go back to the previous shop that fixed my car before."

[Well I heard the paint job for this kind of car is pretty expensive, you know]

’Rest now!’

[Fine, fine Mr Grumpy much, I’m resting okay! Geez]

...Just as he reached out and opened the car door, about to climb inside and finally go home, a familiar female voice he knew all too well suddenly called out his name from somewhere behind him.

"Alex!"

He froze for a second, with his hand still resting on the top of the car door. He already knew exactly who that voice belonged to, and honestly, he really did not want to deal with her right now, not now, not after everything that had already happened today.

Turning around slowly, with a tired look on his face, he confirmed his suspicion. It was Emily. The green tea bitch of all bitches who could win an Oscar award with her remarkable acting skills.

Great. Just great. Of all the people who could have showed up right here right now, it just had to be her, huh? The universe really did not like him!

Emily walked toward him with small, quick steps, her lips curving into a cute pout while her eyes filled up with fake, glistening tears, the perfect picture of an innocent little girl who had been wronged by someone she cared about. Truly a great performance! Alex sneered in his mind.

"Why have you been avoiding me?" she asked softly, her voice trembling slightly as she finally stopped right in front of him. "We barely even talk anymore these days. Do you... do you hate me or something? Did I do something wrong?"

For a split second, Alex really wanted to just say yes. He wanted to tell her straight to her face that he hated her with every single fiber of his being, that sometimes he imagined turning her into nothing but dust with his bare hands. But he forced himself to swallow those words down deep inside. Now was not the time for that yet, not even close. He already had a special kind of revenge planned out for her, something far worse than simple words.

But he could not afford to break things off with her just yet, not when she still served a very important purpose in helping him get closer to her mother. Besides, there was still another part of his plan that was not finished. Making her fall in love with him, only to later watch her heart shatter completely when she saw him together with her own mother instead, that part of the plan still had a long way to go.

He forced a shy, awkward smile onto his face and rubbed the back of his head with one hand, slipping easily back into his nerdy, bashful act that he had practiced so well over the past few weeks to fool someone like her.

"Sorry, I have just been really busy lately with my part-time job," he said, keeping his voice soft and full of fake guilt. "I did not mean to make you feel like I was ignoring you on purpose. Can you... can you forgive me? Pretty please."

[Ugh, that pretty please just sounds plain wrong coming from a grown man in a young man’s body]

’Yeah I regretted it the moment it left my mouth.’

Meanwhile, Emily’s face instantly lit up the second he said that, and those fake tears disappeared just as fast as they had shown up a moment ago, like they were never even there in the first place. Funny how this woman’s face could change so fast in an instant.

"Alright," she said with a sweet, warm smile. "How can I ever stay mad at you when you give me that look? You know I can never say no to you."

Her eyes then drifted past him and landed on the car behind him, and she blinked in surprise. "Wow, is this car yours? I did not know you had a car like this."

"Yeah, it’s mine," Alex replied simply, trying to keep his tone casual.

Emily’s eyes sparkled with interest as she looked the car over from top to bottom, clearly impressed despite the strange graffiti marks still covering parts of it. "Since we are both heading home anyway," she said, tilting her head sweetly and blinking up at him with big eyes, "can I get a ride with you? Pretty please?"

Alex’s mind quickly flashed to the thought of her mother, Sofia, who could very well be home right now. This could actually work out in his favor, giving him another perfect chance to see her again without looking too obvious about it. With that thought settling in his mind, he gave a small nod.

"Sure, hop in. It’s not like I was going anywhere else first."

Emily beamed with happiness and quickly made her way around to the other side of the car, pulling open the passenger door and climbing inside while Alex walked around and slid into the driver’s seat. He started the engine, and the car rumbled softly to life. Soon enough, they were pulling out of the parking lot and heading onto the main road.

As they drove through the busy streets, Emily shifted slightly in her seat, clearly trying to think of something to talk about to fill the quiet silence between them. After a few moments of just sitting there, she finally spoke up, her tone light and casual, like she was just making simple small talk.

"So," she said, glancing over at him with a small smile, "are you going to come to Freddie Gilbert’s party on Saturday night?"
