Chapter 208: Chapter 143: Refugees Pledge Allegiance, a Great Harvest of Food

「About ten minutes later.」

A dark gold figure broke through the fog, speeding toward the territory.

Shen Xing sat on Zha Ji’s back, with Reina and Xia Wanyin pressed close on either side.

From a distance, he could see the orange glow of fire in the fog ahead, and within that glow, the towering city walls and Arrow Towers.

Zha Ji folded its wings and landed steadily in the open space at the West City Gate entrance.

Xia Wanyin’s Light Elf squad, along with the Light Elf Hero clad in Silver-White Light Armor, was waiting quietly.

Seeing them return, the Light Elf Hero immediately came forward to greet them.

"Master..." it said, its voice neither male nor female, like the sound of fine crystals clinking together.

"Guang, we’ve kept you waiting."

Xia Wanyin smiled faintly. "You’ll be coming with us in a bit. We need to catch some things and bring them back."

"Understood..."

The Light Elf Hero nodded slightly. Beneath its faceplate, a pair of bright yellow eyes, like two light bulbs, shone with the light of loyalty.

Shen Xing glanced at the Light Elf, feeling a little curious.

In the Land of Mist, any Soldier Type had the potential to become a Hero.

As long as a Soldier Type’s Talent was high enough and you had enough Hero’s Certificates, you could even advance a creature like a Slime into a Heroic Slime.

But Lords who raised Light Elves into Heroes were still very rare.

These Elemental Creatures were similar to skeletons. They couldn’t speak and weren’t very smart.

Although their initial Potential was higher than a skeleton’s, their ceiling was not as high.

Why was that?

Because their single element limited their ceiling.

As they developed, they could only awaken Light Attribute Skills and comprehend Light Attribute Talents.

Even Lords who used Light Elves as their main force could, at most, only raise them to Leader Level.

But skeletons were different.

As the saying goes, the lower the floor, the higher the ceiling.

The base number of skeleton Soldier Types was massive, and the evolutionary paths in the Land of Mist were incredibly diverse.

So, some players had found special evolutionary paths, allowing skeletons to break their limits and become unique skeleton commanders.

For example, a player in the Wind Eagle Country pieced together a massive number of bones, then had one of his skeletons fuse with a precious treasure. This created an Overlord Level Skeleton Giant Beast, which was said to be able to go toe-to-toe with a Giant Dragon!

Another player in the Earth Bear Country found a Necromancy Manual and had a special skeleton study it. The skeleton eventually became a Leader Level ’Witch Demon’ and could supposedly evolve further into an Overlord Level ’Great Witch Demon’.

Examples like these were not uncommon.

"Boss, you’re back!"

A resonant shout from the Inner City District interrupted Shen Xing’s thoughts.

Riding his Bloody Warg, Blood Roar approached with heavy, quick steps.

Shen Xing snapped out of his thoughts and said, "Blood Roar, perfect timing. I have something for you to do."

"How many of the Wolf Cavalry know the [Capture Net] skill now?"

"Reporting, Boss! Nine of the Wolf Cavalry know Capture Net now!"

Blood Roar replied in a booming voice, "The other Wolf Cavalry are too dumb. No matter how many times we teach them, they just don’t get it. It’s a disgrace to the most intelligent race on the continent."

He paused for a moment before adding, "But those guys finally had a breakthrough today. A lot of the Wolf Cavalry have learned how to throw the nets, but their Hit Rate still needs practice."

Hearing that last sentence, Shen Xing had a realization. ’It must be the Talent increase from [Golden Child] that made these Beastmen much smarter.’

As mentioned before, some intelligent Soldier Types possessed the ability to learn.

By imitating how similar Soldier Types used their abilities, they could master their Skills.

Of course, this required diligent practice and a sufficient aptitude for learning.

It was just like how the Beastmen had previously been imitating Hellish Roar to learn the [Blade Storm] skill.

But most of the Beastmen could only manage a superficial imitation—in other words, just making themselves spin.

Currently, only a mere two or three had truly mastered the skill and could use it with any flexibility.

"Nine?" Shen Xing mused for a moment, then nodded. "That’s enough. Take thirty Wolf Cavalry and come out with me immediately."

"No problem, Boss!" Blood Roar readily agreed, then changed his tone. "But, there’s something else I need to report."

"While you were away, a group of refugees came to the edge of our territory, saying they wanted to join us."

"Refugees?" Shen Xing’s eyes lit up as he asked, "Roughly how many?"

"About fifty or sixty of them," Blood Roar replied. "I told them the Boss was out and had them wait obediently in the Inner City District."

Shen Xing was surprised by the number. ’I can’t believe a group showed up at my territory the very same day the system increased the refugee appearance rate.’

Moreover, he had just discovered several new Black Iron Ore and Soul Stone Mines that very day and was in desperate need of manpower.

’Still, I have more important things to take care of first.’

’The priority right now is to capture that swarm of Finger Insects.’

’If they get away, the loss will be immense.’

"I understand. Have them wait a little longer; we’re heading out first," Shen Xing instructed. "Oh, and call Hei over too."

"Yes, Boss!"

Blood Roar turned and strode purposefully toward the inner city to assemble the team.

A few minutes later, a squad of Wolf Cavalry, wielding long-handled axes and riding gray Giant Wolves, marched out in neat formation.

At the head of the formation, two great commanders stood side-by-side.

On the left, the Red-haired Orc rode a Bloody Giant Wolf and wielded a Flame Greatsword. His very presence radiated a surging battlelust.

On the right, the Black Knight rode a Skeleton Warhorse, holding a black Longsword. His entire being emanated a grayish-black aura of death.
