Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 988 - 514: She Wants to Escape Like the Golden Cicada (Part 2)
The maid was dressed in a black and white outfit. Now even a servant was so beautiful. She wasn’t sure if this woman was mixed-race, her features were very defined, and her chest seemed quite ample, probably very large indeed.
"Miss Jane, everything’s packed. Is there anything else you need to take?" the beautiful maid mentioned, snapping her out of her thoughts. Another maid had already gone downstairs first. She looked at the two boxes, realizing there wasn’t really a need to take so much. "The housekeeper has also instructed that all your things be taken away, as there will soon be a new mistress here."
The maid’s mouth was a bit stiff. Although she looked extremely beautiful, there was something odd about her, like a doll that was somehow off.
"A new mistress?" Avery Jane took a long time to react, not understanding what the maid was saying, but knowing it certainly related to her in some way. Her heart leapt wildly, and even her voice trembled a bit. "What did you say?" She wanted to hear it again more clearly. Had she heard incorrectly?
"Once a year. Last year’s Miss Yates didn’t stay. This year, twenty people have already been picked and are on their way here. Maybe Miss Jane should avoid being seen by them." The beautiful maid lowered her body, whispering as if afraid of being overheard. "Miss Jane, we’re not supposed to say anything more, but moving back and forth isn’t a solution either. We’ll be busy today. Those beautiful noble ladies will be arriving by tomorrow evening. If there’s nothing else, I should go now." A trace of shadow and resentment flashed in the maid’s eyes, too quick to be caught.
"Are you serious?" Avery Jane’s face seemed to turn transparent, as white as snow, with a fragility as if she might vanish in the sunlight; even her voice lost strength. This sentence hit her like a thunderbolt on a clear day, scaring her so much she felt as if her soul had flown out of her body.
"Of course, how could I joke about something like this? If you can sneak back by tomorrow afternoon, I can lend you my clothes. Come in through the door from the castle’s kitchen. Servants don’t use the main entrance; that’s where they come in and out. You’ll see for yourself. I heard there’s even a royal princess this time. While the young master might like you, he won’t marry you, which is quite pitiful." The maid sighed softly, as if with regret and sympathy.
Above the vast layers of clouds, sunlight streamed through and shone on Avery Jane’s face, still and serene like a statue of a holy goddess. Her mind echoed with the maid’s words. She didn’t understand why she was told all this. Was the maid secretly in love with Joshua Hughes, causing her to deliberately inform her?
But she couldn’t focus on the maid’s motives now. What she needed was a personal look to clarify everything. He couldn’t lie about such things, getting fake marriage certificates and living with her while giving Mrs. Hughes’ title to others. Even if that man adored her, she wanted to be the only one, not just the most adored.
Edward Parker arrived at the airport early. Joshua Hughes only told him to invite Avery Jane for a few days, and he agreed instantly. Having the young mistress of the Hughes family cut the ribbon would naturally dignify the newly opened casino. Besides, he owed Avery Jane a huge favor, and attending to her well was his responsibility.
In the hotel, Avery Jane asked the bodyguards to wait outside. She sat on the sofa, her pale face adorned with a faint smile.
"Mr. Parker, I’d like to ask a favor." Avery Jane’s eyes were downcast, her long lashes obscuring her thoughts. During the days with Joshua Hughes, she had gone through many things, and was no longer the Avery Jane of the past. She knew well what she was doing.
"Miss Jane, you’re too polite. Please feel free to ask anything." Edward Parker looked at Avery Jane. This breathtakingly beautiful woman, perhaps only someone like Joshua Hughes was deserving of her.
"I want to slip out quietly tomorrow afternoon to take care of some matters, but I don’t want the bodyguards following me. This is your hotel, so you just need two staff members to cooperate with me," Avery Jane said, putting Edward Parker in some difficulty. Though Joshua Hughes hadn’t specified to hand Avery Jane over to him, this was still his territory, his hotel. If anything happened, how could he explain it to Joshua Hughes?
"I won’t be in any danger, just handling some personal affairs, and I will return promptly." Avery Jane saw Edward Parker’s troubled expression. She understood what he was thinking. If he helped her sneak out and something happened, Joshua Hughes would surely place blame on him.
"Very well, Miss Jane, should I have two people accompany you?" Edward Parker looked into Avery Jane’s clear eyes. With eyes like hers, she probably wouldn’t do anything excessive. Besides, he owed her a favor, so it wouldn’t be right to refuse.
"No need. I’ll call customer service tomorrow afternoon. You just need to arrange it..." Avery Jane murmured softly. All the way there, she was contemplating how to sneak back undetected, to check out the Hughes’ old mansion, without arousing the bodyguards’ or Joshua Hughes’ suspicion. Her plan shouldn’t have any flaws, all perfectly sensible, as long as the maid doing room service cooperated.
