Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 943 - 492: The Cruel Wedding Photo
The open café in the mall was filled with the rich aroma of coffee. Avery Jane sat in the farthest corner; she had arranged to meet Beckett Wright here. The bodyguards were still in the parking lot. She had Emma White follow her to the mall, then came here alone, silently praying in her heart, hoping everything wasn’t true, that all the things people tried to tell her weren’t true.
Beckett was very punctual, still looking as gentle as jade, and he sat down across from Avery.
,
"How are things?" Avery anxiously bit her lip. She had been telling herself to trust Joshua Hughes, but now she was a bit scared. What if he couldn’t make her believe him? What was her past like?
The man named Lucas Yates always gave her an inexplicable heartache. Sometimes she wondered if she should continue living as if she didn’t know, but what Nora Thompson said made a lot of sense. A person without a past is like a rootless tree, and her life would eventually wither. She wanted to find her past precisely because she was becoming more fond of Joshua Hughes, and she didn’t want to live in confusion. Love couldn’t tolerate any deception.
She should have known Lucas Yates, but was that man her husband?
Beckett looked at Avery, a hint of worry on his brow. She’s doing well now, and he didn’t want to disturb her life. But could Joshua Hughes treat her well forever? What if he was only infatuated with her beauty? What if her beauty faded one day? Would he still treat her kindly? Furthermore, the terrible things he did to her in the past always worried Beckett. He liked her very much, but he realized that maybe they were only meant to be friends. Would telling her the truth change that relationship? Without Joshua Hughes, would she remember him?
Beckett took out a piece of paper, and as Avery looked down, her eyes widened when she saw the image printed on the paper. It felt as though she had fallen into an ice cave, chilled to the bone.
The woman in the photo was indeed her, but that man wasn’t Joshua Hughes. Not at all. The man in the photo was distinctly the same as the man who had taken the photo with her—Lucas Yates. The male side read Lucas Yates; Nora Thompson hadn’t lied to her. Really hadn’t lied to her...
Her heart seemed stabbed with a sharp awl, deeply piercing her. Her fingertips gently touched the people in the photo, trembling slightly. How could she have forgotten this person? It clearly looked so familiar and painful, yet she couldn’t remember.
:"Avery, I hacked into the marriage registry to print this out. If you don’t believe me, you can go check at the registry yourself." Beckett looked at her ashen face. He could imagine how devastating this piece of paper was to her, but she couldn’t live in lies forever, could she?
Avery shook her head dully. Before coming here, she had been wondering if she was just being paranoid. How could Joshua Hughes deceive her? A man like him, if he wanted a woman, countless women would throw themselves at him. Besides, she had no money; why deceive her? But now it seemed she was indeed naive, being with him all this time, yet not knowing what he was thinking? What kind of person was he? Why did he deceive her?
"Avery?" Beckett gently called her name.
She raised her head blankly, giving Beckett a mournful look: "You know a lot more, don’t you?" She suppressed the deep shock and sadness in her heart. She wanted to know her past, and he was the only one who could tell her now. She needed to know, no matter how cruel it was. What had happened to her, and where was Lucas Yates? In the photo, she smiled so sweetly, while that man smiled as if he had obtained the most precious treasure in the world. She believed she was happy when taking that picture. Did she really love Lucas Yates? And what about Joshua Hughes? What did her feelings for him now even mean?
"Avery, I don’t know a lot, but if you want to hear, I can tell you everything I know." Things had come to this point, and it seemed there was little reason to keep her in the dark. However, he was a bit worried. Avery now looked as pale as a little snowman, as if she could melt away at any moment.
