Chapter 941 - 491: Unsolicited Kindness

When Beckett Wright’s call came, Avery Jane’s heart skipped a beat.

She was pondering that the task she entrusted to Beckett was a bit strange. She didn’t distrust Joshua Hughes, but there were too many odd things that always puzzled her, just like the old saying, "Three people make a tiger," a story she had heard many times.

Some people who told her about it did so with ill intent, but others spoke with genuine eyes. So, she just wanted to clear up this confusion that had been weighing on her mind.

Joshua Hughes was the man she planned to spend her life with, and she hoped that their life together wouldn’t be filled with doubt or mistrust. He was an exceptional man, and she wanted to live peacefully with him. She hoped this call would bring good news, proving that everyone was trying to deceive her and that Joshua Hughes was truly her husband.

"Beckett, did you find anything?" Avery Jane held the phone, her fingers turning white out of tension, as if she were about to receive the result of the most important exam of her life.

This truly was the most significant answer of her life, and she hoped it matched her heart’s desire. Even if Joshua Hughes had many women before her, as long as she was the only one afterward, and he hadn’t lied to her, that would be enough.

"Avery Jane, it’s hard to explain this over the phone. Can we meet?" The voice on the other end was soothing and gentle. Avery Jane felt a slight relief; surely it wasn’t a big issue. However, since he said it was too complex to discuss over the phone, it gave her a headache. She realized that Joshua Hughes had been sending people to follow her recently. If she met with Beckett alone, Joshua might appear anytime, just like last time. If he knew she secretly investigated this matter, he’d surely be angry. It was best to tell him first, out of respect.

"Well, Beckett, I’ll call you later to set up a time, okay?" Avery Jane bit her lip. Going out wouldn’t be easy with Joshua, but she was eager to find out the answer.

Avery Jane thought quickly, realizing it was nearly lunchtime. They had been having lunch together frequently, making it a good opportunity to discuss it with him.

In the top-floor office, another man had appeared. Since encountering Avery Jane, Joshua Hughes began to show emotions. In other words, he became more human. However, this man appeared as cold as ice, with no expression on his face.

"Finally ready to make a move?" The man with the icy demeanor spoke without any fluctuation in tone. His suit was impeccably neat and almost menacing, the crease on his trousers so sharp it could cut paper. The white shirt was blindingly bright. His tie, cufflinks, even his watch spoke of a man who was meticulous and methodical.

"With such a large operation, have you figured out your approach?" Looking at Joshua Hughes, he understood the methods of his master, though this time it felt peculiar, "I heard you’ve got your eye on a woman now?"

Now he was filled with curiosity about him, as there were few things that intrigued him in this world anymore. He wanted to see if Joshua Hughes’s woman was extraordinary enough, perhaps with three heads and six arms, to make such a man contemplate marriage.

Joshua Hughes gave a faint smile, thinking to himself that he was in love, not merely interested.

Telling Julian Carter about such a thing would seem like a fantastic tale to him. Even feeling such emotions was incredible to him. Sometimes events unfold without warning, and this love arrived in an exceptional manner, which now frightened him because of its intensity and the fear of losing it.

"Take it slow, now that you’re back, we can always have a lot of fun. You should thank me for such a big toy, one you’ll only encounter once in a lifetime." Joshua Hughes lazily reclined on the sofa, his demeanor relaxed like a leopard dozing on the savannah.
