Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1037 - 537: If You Can’t Handle Losing, Don’t Play_2
Eyes scarlet, fists slowly clenching, holding back fiercely, even if he cannot see her facial expression, he can imagine her faint smile now; she has already won this round.
The most nerve-wracking round has finally come, best of three. This round is the legendary life-or-death game.....
The dealer starts a new round of dealing; show hand is actually quite simple, each gets one hole card, which can only be revealed at the end.
From the second card onwards, each card dealt, the higher value goes first to place bets. Those who wish to continue playing choose to follow, matching their bet with the previous player’s chips, or may choose to raise, and if their cards look bad and they don’t want to continue, they can choose to fold, accepting losses and waiting for the round to end, unable to retrieve previously matched chips. The last betting round is crucial; players may go all-in, pressing the maximum chips the remaining players can match. Once all betting has been concluded and players have expressed their stance, the hole cards are revealed to decide victory. At this point, the player with the highest face value wins all chips on the table.
Today they are gambling in show hand, by the last card, they can propose their own conditions.
The first card dealt to Avery Jane was a King of hearts, and her mouth began to curve into a smile; she would definitely win this round, as this King of hearts was her lucky charm, with the King always protecting her.
Across from her, Tate Hunter also smiled triumphantly, indicating that the card he received was likely not bad either.
Everyone was so tense they reached their limit, nerves taut like a fully drawn bow, what could be more thrilling than this? The huge stakes, the life-and-death contract, the rare beauty of Avery Jane, all made everyone unusually excited. The last card, the one that could decide their fate, was pushed out from the dealer’s hand.
Tate Hunter looked at his card with increased smugness while Avery Jane reached out for the card pushed to her table, when suddenly something unexpected happened......
"Ah........" Her voice sounded startled, but it was simultaneously charming and sweet; just as she reached for the card, the delicate strap on her right shoulder gown snapped. Before anyone could react, she swiftly covered her enticing fullness with her left hand while whipping the large shawl hanging on the chair’s back with her right. It sliced a graceful arc through the air before sliding across the table to securely drape over her shoulders, covering her seductive figure completely, not a hint of skin exposed......
Everyone sighed in regret, her strap broke but no one saw anything; her movements were so fast that before they had fully reacted, her shawl was already in place.
Tate Hunter paused for a moment, quickly regaining his composure, now he was eager to see her reveal her cards; her last card could not possibly be the Ace of hearts, he was sure to win this round.
In the audience seats, Joshua Hughes in a refined and noble black suit, from shirt to pants, to blazer, yet this black did not match those eyes as deep as ink. The air was thick with killing intent; if he knew she would play this hand today, he would have wiped out the Hunter Family long ago, although he was certain Tate Hunter saw nothing earlier, he just desperately wanted to kill. After today, he would no longer hold back; he would take her back to his side, regardless of her hatred or resentment, he wouldn’t care. He just wanted her to live under his wings, away from sin, away from blood, away from greedy stares......
:"Sorry, you lost," Avery Jane said lightly, her voice not loud but seemed to possess a fatal penetrative power, reaching the ears of everyone present.
Her snow-white, slender, orchid-like fingers gently flipped the card; it was indeed an Ace of hearts.
Everyone froze at the unexpected turn of events. The tension, anger, despair; all kinds of emotions swirled like large bubbles, suffocatingly close........
Joshua Hughes coldly watched everything, despite her win, unable to relax even a bit the stern lines of his features that stayed harsh as a glacier; he was angry, Julian Carter felt a bit scared, the boss was quite terrifying when truly upset.
"Impossible, how could it be, the Ace of hearts must still be in the undealt deck, you cheated." Avery Jane was momentarily stunned, heart pounding violently. If another Ace of hearts were found in that deck, today she would suffer even worse than her father years ago.
"If you can’t afford to lose, don’t play." The familiar musk scent surrounded her from behind, his voice cold and severe. As Avery Jane was frozen in bewilderment, those domineering hands had already encircled her waist, pulling her back into a warm chest. There was no need to turn around, she could guess who it was, as his overwhelming aura began to fill the space......
The man behind her in an ink-colored suit, radiant metal buttons and elegant cufflinks lent him an imposing presence with a sharp murderous air permeating forward. His expression on his face was chillingly intimidating.
Two men faced each other, tense......
The warmth from his palms permeated through the smooth silk fabric, heating her skin, the sensation from her waist inexplicably relaxed her.
