Chapter 387: Battle of Patience - Part 1

  • Next Chapter

In that moment, the ground cracked like a chasm. Lava spewed out like a fountain of fire, and in an instant, the forest started getting burned to the ground.

The once peaceful forest had now become a blazing inferno.

"Rise, my army."

Xiao Yue spread her arms wide, and at that moment, scorched-skinned creatures rose from the chasm.

They all had demon horns.

"The Army of the Demon Queen!"

’This... feels similar to Devon’s magic. Could it be that after our encounter with Devon, Yue created this skill to counter his army of skeletons?

’That can’t be... It had only been a couple of days since that day. There is no way Yue could create such a powerful spell in such a short time!’

Fang Raon thought to himself.

In that moment, he was again reminded that it wasn’t just Leon, Hermes, and his brother who were geniuses.

Everyone in Dead Redemption was the best talent that the world had to offer!

"You have gotten stronger. However, you are not the only one. My arrow can even pierce demons and gods!"

Rasmus jumped high into the air, and he pointed his bow down below and pulled back the string way back.

There wasn’t an arrow in the string.

In that moment, he released the string, and an echo of a sound traversed throughout the forest like a cry of a banshee.

"Watch out, Raon!"

Xiao Yue shouted, and she started dodging invisible arrows, as if she could see them despite them being invisible.

The demon-horned creatures were stabbed with the arrows, and they all collapsed onto the scorched ground and turned into ash.

"Aurel’s Dance Dance!"

Fang Raon danced through the rain of invisible arrows. His movements were insanely graceful, like that of a professional dancer.

The attack stopped, but when they turned their gaze back to the sky, Rasmus had disappeared from sight.

’This is bad. He is relocating to attack us from far away. We cannot defeat him in a battle of long range.’

Fang Raon thought.

"We also need to disappear, Yue. Let’s go on our separate way, and let’s try to find Rasmus before he finds us."

Fang Raon said.

"If we are alone, we’re both vulnerable."

Xiao Yue said with a sound of worry.

"I know, but it’s easier to discover us if we stick together. If you end up in a fight, cause some noise and I’ll come running over!"

Fang Raon shouted.

"Okay..."

Xiao Yue nodded.

At that moment, they both started running in different directions through the burned forest.

...

"..."

Rasmus perched on top of a charred tree stump. He was looking like a hawk. Yet, he couldn’t see anybody.

’Interesting...’

He jumped down from the tree stump and then crawled between the bushes, small hills, and fallen trees.

’I need to lure them out.’

Rasmus thought, and then he opened his hand, and something started to appear from the palm of his hand.

At first, it looked like a pixel. It slowly transformed into a figure. A miniature figure of a Rasmus.

He then tossed it through the air, and as it flew through the air, it suddenly started to grow in size until it was the size of Rasmus.

The fake Rasmus landed on the ground, holding the same bow, and was slowly walking down the forest.

In that moment.

The real Rasmus raised slightly up to sit on his knee, and then he put the bow into a shooting stance.

"The Blood Arrow of a High Ranker."

Rasmus said, and at that moment, a blood arrow appeared on his hand, and he put it on the string and then pulled it back.

This arrow was especially strong because it was made of the blood of High Ranker that he killed a long time ago.

As he pulled back the bow’s string, his muscles strained with the effort, but he had gotten used to this.

There had been times when he was pulling the string for ten hours straight when he was hunting across the rugged terrain of the Icaran mountains.

He had to be ready to shoot the arrow from a moment’s notice as he was hunting Quick Jackrabbit, who was known as the fastest creature in the Tower of the Black.

If he wasn’t ready, he wouldn’t stand a chance at killing Quick Jackrabbit, and because of his patience, he eventually managed to hunt it down.

...

’...What?’

Fang Raon was hiding slightly underground. He put some dirt and leaves on top of him to make himself look invisible.

In that moment, he saw Rasmus walking. It seemed odd. It was almost like he was screaming, "Please kill me!"

The streaming camera hovered high in the air.

Fang Raon made it go away so it wouldn’t expose his location but put it in a good enough location that the stream would be able to see what was happening.

And they also saw lone Rasmus walking down the forest.

[VipeStation: Come on, kill him!]

[Roosever: He is completely exposed! This is the perfect opportunity to kill him!]

[LadyBelle: Stop backseating, guys. I am sure Raon knows what he is doing, so just stand back and keep watching!]

’This is suspicious. Would Rasmus be this careless?’

Fang Raon frowned.

In that moment, he thought about sending a message to Xiao Yue but then remembered that the chat window would make light.

It was a holographic screen, and it emitted blue light that could be easily seen over here in the forest.

He couldn’t make the chat window invisible like with the system interface.

’Maybe that’s what Rasmus would want me to do...’

Fang Raon thought with a few beads of sweat dropping from his forehead, and he hoped that Xiao Yue knew what to do as well.

’Please, do not make a move.’

...

A distance away, Xiao Yue was hiding on top of a tall hill, tucked between two trees, inside a bush.

She also saw Rasmus.

’A decoy.’

Xiao Yue thought.

She didn’t fall for it, and she looked away from the fake Rasmus and looked in the direction where it came from.

’That fake Rasmus came from somewhere in there...’
