Chapter 281: Silly spider and bloodcurdling screams.

Seoha’s POV

My omega remains restless all through the time I try to sleep, and I don’t even know why.

I fall asleep at some point and when I wake, it’s to the sound of someone’s bloodcurdling scream.

Instinctively, I grab my belly for my unborn pups, and I reach out for the little girl who slept next to me.

Safe.

’Safe’ my restless omega echoes the word, confirming the status of my three pups.

Sooin is tucked by my side with her thumb in her mouth.

The scream doesn’t come again, but I sit up quickly, heart pounding as I wonder what’s going on.

"AHHH" the scream comes through again, it’s louder this time, so I get out of the bed.

The scream sounds like Taerin noona, and the Kang Taerin I’ve seen so far is not someone who screams; she looks too cool to scream like that.

My bare feet hit the floor, and I carefully leave the room, taking slow steps as I go out to see what’s going on.

Why don’t I have a gun like Taesan? Why can’t I fight karate like Junho?

"HELP! Hurry and help me!" Taerin’s voice says loudly and I pick up my pace. If I die, I die with and for my family.

"Noona? What is wrong?" I ask with fear in my voice as I rush into the kitchen, one hand over my small baby bump.

Kang Taerin is standing on the counter with a broom in her hand, there are no kids downstairs and Yuki is walking around the space like she’s looking for something.

There’s an opened bag of flour sitting untouched on the counter, the kitchen blind is half open, and there’s a glass that has been tipped over with spilled water on the floor.

A mess.

"What’s going on?" I ask, staying close to the door for my safety’s sake.

"Seoha, be careful. There’s a spider somewhere" the older woman says and Yuki snickers like she’s delighted.

The situation makes me blink twice.

Really?

I’m really surprised that a tiny spider is the reason this kitchen is a mess.

"Unnie hates them" Yuki says casually, squatting to look under the counter while I stare at them with disbelief.

A spider.

A spider is the reason the woman who almost shot Taesan is standing on the counter and screaming.

Unbelievable! the Kangs are really humans after all; just like my Taesan who can’t even win a game to save my life.

"Noona, it’s just a little spider" I say while trying to stifle my mocking laughter, and noona is not one bit pleased with my teasing.

"Yuki! Yuki, look at it! It’s over there" she points at the next counter, and Yuki starts to laugh out loud.

It’s so cute how nervous and scared Taerin looks right now.

If Taesan and my twins end up being two girls, I hope they’ll be like their cool aunty.

"Unnie, it’s dead now, I got it for you!" Yuki yells as she fake smashes the insect.

Every day with these people introduces a new emotion for me and I love it.

It’s either laughter, anger, fear, anxiety, or sadness; today’s emotion is laughter.

"Are you sure, Yuki? Is it dead?" Taerin asks.

The omega carefully comes to the edge of the counter to peek at it, and Yuki, the unserious woman who chose to play a prank, suddenly opens her hand.

The spider moves, and even though Yuki shuts her hand again, the scream Taerin lets out is terrifying.

I wince and shut my ears. Something about her scream triggers my omega’s anxiety.

Woah, it’s so scary. I know it’s a prank, but something inside my chest suddenly feels heavy.

"I will kill you!" Taerin screams and Yuki starts to laugh like a cartoon villain.

I walk further into the kitchen and lean on the counter to laugh with them. I watch Yuki try to run from Taerin’s kitten punch while subtly feeling for my mate through our bond.

"It’s not funny! You’re sleeping outside tonight, why are you like this?" Taerin continues to yell at Yuki who keeps laughing.

"I said I’m sorry unnie" Yuki says with the biggest unapologetic grin on her face.

I get lost in thoughts when I feel that my mate’s end of the bond is quiet. I guess he’s busy...or asleep.

"Noona, what time would it be at home right now?" I ask and she picks up her phone to check.

"Hmm, three p.m. Oh that’s right, your phone was buzzing when I came in this morning" she says, sounding less afraid from the spider prank and I gasp.

I can’t believe I’ve been worried and missing my mate while my phone was away from me.

Taesan would have called me and I missed it.

’Stupid Seoha’ I scold myself as I pick the device up.

I click the side button, but it doesn’t come on. I guess my phone has gone off from low battery.

"I’ll be back" I say before running up the stairs to my room, giggling to myself as I skip happily.

"Careful, you’re a mom now!" Yuki yells after me, and I place my hands on my stomach.

Wouldn’t it be funny to run like this when my belly is rounder and bigger?

I bet Taesan won’t let me run. He might just carry me everywhere he goes, especially now that I’m wearing his ring.

My door suddenly seems too far away as I approach it.

I open it and peek in first.

Sooin is still sleeping soundly, and my little starfish is all over the place.

One of her legs is at the headboard, the other one dangling off the bed. One of her hands on her belly and the other one in her hair.

"Cute" I laugh to myself and step in to adjust her.

"Chocolate" she mumbles in her sleep.

"Don’t fall off the bed, Innah" I whisper and plant a kiss on her forehead before going to plug the dead phone in.

My legs won’t stop shaking with excitement as I wait for it to boost up enough for me to make the call.

I start to hum a silly made-up song to myself as I wait.

Soon, the phone comes on, and I unlock it to see what I missed while it was on the counter.

There’s a missed call notification on my phone. Twenty missed calls from my mate.

"I guess he misses me too" I giggle when I see the notification bar alerting me of ten plus new and unread messages from Taesan.

With the same silly flutter in my heart, I click it and start to read the messages.

The first message makes the smile fall off my face.

Hello, why are you not accepting my call.

Taesan doesn’t text like this. My alpha texts in the same way he talks...or is he in trouble?

I scroll and see more texts, and each one is less terrifying than the next, but I read them all.

Cold sweat breaks out of my skin, and I scroll again, coming to a stop when I see a name I never thought I’d see in my life till I die.

My hands start to shake. Shin Yechan is dead! He and my mom died in an accident a long time ago.

I didn’t attend their funeral, but I know they are dead. It was all over the news that the beloved billionaire is dead.

I stop reading the text and look around the room. My heart is beating so fast that I feel it in my head.

The last two messages are pictures. With how hard I’m shaking, the pictures blur, and my breathing comes out as small gasps.

The first picture is a photo of my grandmother. She’s on a chair looking at the camera with helpless terror in her eyes.

"Grandma" I whimper, getting up immediately.

The next picture is Taesan.

My alpha is pale, bleeding, on the floor, and looks unmoving.

Someone screams.

I think it’s me, but I’m not sure.

The phone falls out of my hands, followed by the cold sensation on my mating mark, and the person screams again.

It’s me.

I’m sure it’s me.

But...but...I don’t understand; so, I scream again.

"NO!"
