Chapter 278: Minji’s letters

Taesan’s POV

"You worked out as early as four in the morning" Jaemin’s voice sultry distracts me from the walk I’m doing around my car.

"You took a shower by six, ate cereal by seven. Hey, since when do you eat cereal?" he asks, coming close as he interprets my silence for approval.

My gun is sitting heavy, waiting to be used on the omega.

"You did all that, and now you’re on your way to...oh fuck" he stops talking when I point the gun at him.

I’m not looking at him, my eyes are on the wheel of my car, but the gun is aimed right at the middle of his head.

"I was just worried about you" he says, holding his hands up and stepping back.

"Find somewhere else to make trouble, I don’t have the patience to look at your face" I tell him and open the door to get in the car.

Without permission, he opens the door passenger seat and gets into the car.

"What are you doing?" I tilt my head at him and he shrugs.

"Getting in the car next to you. I don’t want to stay here alone if you’re not here" he says and I breathe out to calm my boiling blood.

"I’d advise you to get the fuck away from me"

"Come on Sannah, what if that man comes for me? He would kill me and you wouldn’t get to have the information I have" he says while wearing a sly smile.

I look at him flatly and calculate my moves.

It will cost me nothing to snap his neck and kill him now; but in the long run, the news of his death would affect Soeha and our future.

Fuck.

"You sit still, and you don’t fucking speak" I growl at him sternly and he makes a zipping motion over his mouth.

There have been people I have itched to kill, but now, none of those feels matches this one.

I drive for hours and Jaemin stays quiet.

Irritatingly, the man scrolls through his phone, makes short videos and takes pictures of himself.

The way he positions himself makes me remember that he’s an idol with hundreds of faithful and loving fans. They are all innocent people who have been deceived into thinking Roh Jaemin is a good person.

"What was the information you wanted to give me last night?" I ask quietly.

Jaemin doesn’t respond immediately.

"Jaemin" I growl his name through my teeth and he smiles, that fake smile.

"Oh, it’s nothing big" he says as he applies lip-gloss on his lips and puckers them to look good on camera.

"I will park this car and beat you up. I know you wouldn’t talk, but I will have the pleasure of making you bleed" I inform him, gripping the wheel in the same way I want to squeeze his neck.

"It’s about Sooin. I know her real father" Jaemin says and the car almost skids out of the road, but I gain control.

"Wouldn’t you like to know?" Jaemin taunts, putting the phone down to look at me.

"Who is he?" I ask and he smiles.

"Let me live till tonight, and I’ll tell you" he says and I tighten my grip on the wheel again.

If I react according to how I feel about him right now, I might bash his head too hard against the dashboard.

"Tonight" I say and he nods, picking his phone up again.

We stay quiet till I drive into the quiet neighborhood that Seoha’s grandma lives in.

I park in front of the old woman’s house, and her dog comes out first. It barks loudly while keeping its distance from me.

"Stay down, you silly dog!" Seoha’s grandmother comes out of the house with a stick.

"Grandma" I call, and she squints to see me better.

"Ha! It’s the rock boy, you’re here" she laughs cheerfully, coming closer to me.

"Where’s my boy and the cute little girl?" she asks after Seoha and Sooin with a fond expression on her face.

"They’re on vacation. Grandma I need to talk to you about something important" I say in a serious tone and she nods.

"Come in, who’s that in your car?" she asks.

"No one relevant"

"If you’re cheating on my boy, I will make you knotless" she growls at me and I nod in agreement.

I don’t need to be threatened; cheating is not something I would ever do.

"But I know you can never cheat, you’re too good. Stupid, but good" she tsks and beckons for me to follow her into the house.

The house looks the same way it was the last time we visited; small, simple, and homely.

"What’s the matter? Have you eaten, you look terrible, like a dying rock. Handsome, but terrible" the woman says with that sharp tongue of hers.

I would have laughed, but I’m not in the place to laugh.

"Can we sit?" I ask and she sits first, waiting for me to speak.

"Seoha’s father is back" I go straight to the point, and she shuts her eyes. The mood in the room changes as she opens her eyes.

There’s sadness there.

"Does Seoha know?" she asks.

"No"

"Good, keep it that way. You must send that man back to the land of the dead" she says with pain in her eyes.

"That’s why I’m here. Shin Yechan is in hiding but he knows almost everything about me, grandmother, do you have any clue on his location?" I ask.

"He has always been good at hiding, but...I have a letter from my daughter a year before she died" she gets up.

"Can you show me?" I ask and she holds a hand up to silence me.

"Oh, Minji, you would have been alive and with your son if you listened to me" I hear her softly murmur to herself as she walks across the room.

Her weak powdery scent slowly changes from comfort to sadness.

Fuck.

It pains me to put her in this position, but this is for the best.

She wipes off her tears secretly and returns to me.

"The address is here; I kept it well" she hands the paper to me. It has been straightened out, but I see the crease that shows how it was folded.

"This was the last one she sent, and she said she wasn’t supposed to send me this" the old woman says.

"I’m sorry for making you relive this"

"It’s better I relive this memory than lose my grandbaby. Promise me you’ll keep him safe, Taesan" she says.

"I prom--"

"TAESAN! HE’S HERE! TAESAN!" Jaemin’s loud scream from outside catches my attention and I get up, suddenly at alert.

"Goddess..." Seoha’s grandmother whimpers as the noise of gunshot fills the air, and I growl.

"Grandmother, hide" I command and run out of the house with my gun cocked.
