Nyx had arrived at the scene earlier in his casual outfit, standing in front of the restaurant and patiently waiting for June.

He checked his watch from time to time, occasionally checking himself in the window and adjusting his hair and clothes while he waited.

But not long after, he heard someone call from behind.

"Nyx...?"

Confused, Nyx turned around to see who it was. His expression immediately changed from surprise to confusion and then to shock. He hadn’t expected to see the familiar face standing before him.

"Katy?" he said.

Katy smiled. The tall, pretty young girl ran a hand through her dark, shimmering hair while flaunting her luxurious bag and pulling down her sunglasses. She looked like a typical third-generation rich heiress.

"OMG, I’m so happy to see you!" She smiled as she instantly walked up to him and locked her arm around his, pulling him closer. "It’s been so long! I’ve missed you so much. Have you missed me too? Eh?"

Nyx instantly felt shy and anxious as he ran a hand along his neck. "I... That..."

"You’re still so shy, just like you’ve always been. Aren’t you happy to see me after all these years?" She was rather extroverted and lively, completely different from Nyx.

"I’m happy..." Nyx forced a smile to be polite while avoiding her eyes. "I..."

Katy looked around. "I’m so glad I got to meet you here. I mean, I was so happy when your mum told me you were here, so I came immediately."

Nyx raised an eyebrow. "Huh...? They..."

Before he could speak, Katy happily looked around again. "I never knew our Nyx made it to the top Esper Academy! And I also read the news while coming about all the wonderful things you’ve done. So impressive! I’m proud of you." She smiled profusely at him.

Nyx blinked, swallowing as he looked away. "That..."

She looked around again. "What are you doing here? Waiting for someone? Why don’t we go somewhere more fun? My treat!" she suggested.

But Nyx shook his head. "Well, I’m waiting for..."

He looked ahead, and his eyes met June’s.

He caught sight of June standing opposite him. Their eyes locked as Nyx read the mild expression on his face.

"Oh... June."

Immediately, Nyx brushed off Katy’s hand and walked up to June. "You’re here. I’ve been waiting for you..."

June forced a smile and shook his head. "Oh, no problem. I just came now. Sorry for keeping you waiting."

Nyx smiled. "It’s okay. I don’t mind waiting at all."

Katy approached the scene, folding her arms as she stared at June with a smile. "This is..." She tilted her head. "Your Guide, right? June...?"

Nyx nodded. "Oh, yeah, he is..."

Katy smiled as she stretched out her hand for a handshake. June hesitated before taking it with a smile.

"Thank you for taking care of our Nyx. I’m grateful," she expressed in a jovial tone.

June smiled back. "It’s a pleasure being around him, naturally."

The two held hands, smiling and staring at each other in an awkward, mildly tense silence. June felt like he was in some kind of soap opera drama.

Katy turned to Nyx. "So, are you two having a meal around here or?" she asked.

"Oh, yeah..." Nyx tried to answer.

Katy smiled. "Oh, that’s great, then. I’d like to join you." She locked her arm around Nyx’s again. "It’s been a while since we dined together, so I’d like to join. I hope you two don’t mind?"

She stared at Nyx and June with that bubbly smile.

June smiled. "No. Not at all."

He was saying the complete opposite of what was running through his mind, but he was trying to be nice.

"Cool! Let’s go!" Katy said, pulling Nyx by the hand and dragging him off into the restaurant. "Come on, I have recommendations for what we can try."

Nyx struggled against her grip, especially with the fear that June might get the wrong idea. But Katy was more enthusiastic and pulled him along despite his resistance, dragging him into the restaurant.

As he moved, Nyx looked back from time to time, but he was ultimately taken inside by Katy while June followed behind.

June’s smile faded as soon as they disappeared into the restaurant. He rolled his eyes and folded his arms with a scoff.

"Why am I even concerned...? It’s not like there’s anything official..."

He bit his lower lip at the thought of Katy actually being a character who might have a stronger chance with Nyx than him.

He knew her character and recalled her role.

Her family was a rich family friend of the Faux family living abroad, and Katy was Nyx’s childhood best friend and sweetheart.

Even though the book never explored it, it was mentioned that she was Nyx’s first and only crush in the work. Growing up together as his only companion, he had developed a soft spot for her.

But she and her family had moved abroad when he was still young, and they hadn’t seen each other for a long time.

And now she was back.

June was rather surprised because he didn’t recall her returning anytime soon according to the original storyline.

But who cared? The plot had been messed up enough already. And considering how manipulative Nyx’s parents were, he wouldn’t be shocked if they were using her.

"You’re not using him under my watch," he muttered with both arms folded as he made his way into the restaurant.

Syll had arrived at the restaurant earlier, supposedly to have a meal according to his excuse. But Grey had insisted on following him.

He sat opposite Syll, who had ordered some drinks, staring at him.

"Are you sure you’re here for a meal?" Grey asked.

Syll kept his cold expression as he said firmly, "You didn’t have to follow me here, though."

Grey smiled. "I was bored, so I decided to come keep my boss company."

Syll rolled his eyes and sipped from his glass, clearly annoyed.

At that moment, June walked into the restaurant behind Nyx and Katy.

The two stared up, watching them head toward their seats. Grey smiled as he turned to look at Syll.

"Well, I guess you’ve become a certified stalker now. I see why you’re here."

Syll cast him a cold glare. "Shut up. Annoying," he muttered.

His plan had certainly been ruined again.
