"Ah Yin, haven’t you thought about giving me a name now?" One night when the two decided to rest at their usual spot, Si asked this question.

Name? Yin pondered. He honestly hasn’t thought of it yet but seeing Si looking very curious and with even a faint anticipation in his eyes, he felt that he would finally give it.

He didn’t speak for a while and recalled every possible name that could fit No. 444. He remembered that No. 88 said that a name is very important and should be given because they like it. Just like how she likes snow, she wanted what she liked to always be with her, and thus named herself Xue.

"Do you want your name to be something that you like?" He asked instead.

Si tilted his head. "Rather than that, I prefer how Ji named himself. He said he named himself Ji because it means luck, and he wanted his life to be filled with luck."

He nodded and thought again. His face grew solemn as if naming him was more important than ever. No. 444 chuckles at this expression.

"If you haven’t—"

"Qin An."

"!!!" He saw the man’s eyes widened in surprise at his words.

"Qin An, I want that name for you." he continued and their eyes met.

"... Oh," The grim reaper seemed to fall in confusion and asked him about his reasons for that name. "Why?"

"I heard humans named themselves using two; a name and a surname. Qin means to respect and to admire, while An means peace and stability." He explained carefully.

Si straightens his back in wonder.. "Why do you want those words for me?"

"Many of your colleagues respect you because of how you take your responsibility as a grim reaper, whereas An is about having a life of peace." Yin explained. A peaceful life where those humans can no longer deceive you.

Yin wanted to continue those words but he knew that the man didn’t want to stop helping humans no matter what happened. He just genuinely hopes that he will no longer feel entangled with guilt and sympathy for those who didn’t even deserve. He hopes that he will carry the respect and peace in his life, he earned that the most.

He didn’t believe in any miracles or the so-called prayer from humans that they saw but at this moment, maybe he just sincerely wanted to hope for what he thinks is best for him.

Si was silent. He didn’t expect those words to come out from the devil’s mouth. He could feel Yin’s sincerity about this name and he inexplicably felt a tingling sensation inside him. It was as if he was caressing his heart.

The corner of his lips curled up in joy. "Thank you, Ah Yin." he paused and thought. "I want to give you a name too. Can I?"

"Me?" It was Yin’s turn to be surprised. However he didn’t reject that offer so he nodded. He lets Si think about it until the man finally speaks.

"He Li. I think that name suits you."

It was his turn to feel astonished.

"He Li? Why?"

"He means harmony and peace while Li means dawn and a beginning. Ah Yin, I think that it’s not just me who changed so I also want to give you a name that means about the beginning, a start over while also hoping you have a life with harmony and peace."

Yin chuckles. "Both names have the same thought about peace. Are our lives right now really that mad?" But it’s also true in some sense. A grim reaper who has to take heavy responsibility in this world while as a devil, his life is definitely full of chaos. Who wouldn’t want a life without madness?

However he noticed the word He that the man used. The peace in those words actually meant for world peace. Is he implying something? But the man’s expression was calm and was even joyful.

"He Li."

"Hm," he responded with a soft voice that he didn’t even notice.

"Can you stretch out your hand?" And he did. The moment he laid his hand in front of him, he was astounded by the man’s next action.

Si also stretched out his hand. He didn’t directly put his palm on his but put his index and middle finger together in his wrist, feeling his pulse.

His eyes widened. What is he doing?

"So you can really feel your pulse here." The man’s tone sounds like he was amused at his discovery. He smiled. "Ah Yin, I can feel your pulse. This is the beating of your heart, right?"

"... Yes," he could only answer in a low voice. He was still stunned at this sudden action.

"Oh! It suddenly feels fast!" Si sounded delighted. "Is your heart beating this fast too? Why?" And before he could react, the man just unanticipatedly raised his other hand and directly put it around his chest again where his heart lays.

"!!!" His whole body froze. Yin could only astonishingly stare at Si who didn’t hesitate his movements around him.

"Ah Yin, it’s amazing." Si grinned. He opened his lips but there was no escape. He could only sigh lightly and let the man do whatever he wanted.

Instead after a minute or so, he also moved the hand that he was holding. He quietly stretched out his fingers and let himself feel his pulse too. It looks like they’re both feeling each other’s pulse white holding each other’s hand.

"Do you want to use that name now?" He asked after a while.

Si shrugged. "I don’t know. Maybe soon."

Soon? His brow rose in doubt but he no longer thought further about it because of the next question.

There was silence after that but the atmosphere had a sense of tranquility. It was as if both were still savoring the names that they gave silently while feeling the beats of their heart.

It’s strangely beating the same— fast.
