Chapter 149 - 115: 2-Clan Battlefield Relics

After settling the issue of who got the loot, they weren’t about to part ways. After all, this was just the beginning.

The trio then arrived at the far end of the Golden Bull Guard Canyon, their gazes naturally falling to the chasm below.

Before them lay a small plain, surrounded by mountains like a volcanic crater.

A frigid wind howled through the air, scattering snowflakes. Most of the land was covered in ice and snow.

The entire plain was a sprawling battlefield. It seemed to be a life-or-death struggle between two factions, filled with the flash of blades, crumbling ruins, and the endless flames of Warfire.

The clang of metal, the rumbling of the earth, and the whistling of the frigid wind filled their ears.

"ROAR!"

A fiery phantom resembling a Giant suddenly appeared, roaring as its hand plowed a massive trench into the earth.

Harpy-like monsters descended from the sky, snatching up their enemies and dropping them from great heights to be smashed to death.

A sharp-headed Giant Beast with razor-sharp claws burst from the ground, creating a bottomless pit that buried its foes whole.

In the very center of the plain, two colossal creatures could be seen roaring as they grappled. Their massive bodies obscured the view, but an altar-like structure was faintly visible behind them.

Looking closer to their own position, they could only see two paths, one to the left and one to the right. Both were carved directly into the cliff face.

However, even on such a narrow path, battles were still being fought.

But from the looks of it, their struggles were all meaningless.

No matter which side’s combatants fell, they would undergo Resurrection after a short time. They were simply acting on instinct; it was an endless cycle of Reincarnation.

"No wonder it’s called the Battlefield Relics. The fighting is so intense."

Li Miao smacked his lips at the sight.

"We should get a lore creator over here to record this and post it on the forums."

Brother Yu found the scene before him quite stunning.

"Which way?" Faraway asked after lighting the Milestone Spirit Candle at the canyon’s end.

Two paths, one left and one right, both led down toward the ruins. The left path was relatively narrow and crowded with fighting monsters, while the right path was not only wider but also appeared much calmer.

"Let’s go right."

Li Miao took a look and naturally chose the right path. ’In any case, we’ll probably have to come through here more than once.’

’So, it’s not a bad idea to start with the easier one.’

Brother Yu and Faraway nodded. The trio restored their stats beside the Milestone Spirit Candle, replenished their Wax Blocks, and then prepared to move on.

Once on the relatively wide, descending path, Li Miao and Brother Yu both reverted to their Ordinary forms.

After all, even though the path was "relatively" wide, the term was used loosely.

If the two of them had remained in their Law Knight forms, the path would have been far too crowded, and a single misstep could have sent them plunging off the cliff.

Reverting to their original forms was much safer, even though it meant their Abilities would be somewhat reduced.

"There don’t seem to be any monsters on this path."

Li Miao remarked after they had been walking for a while, a hint of surprise in his voice.

They hadn’t seen any when they first looked down, but the path wasn’t straight. It was hard to believe there wasn’t a single monster.

’Based on what I know,’ Li Miao thought, ’the damn Spirit Candle Dog developers would definitely have hidden some cheap mobs in the nooks and crannies to jump out and screw with us.’

But strangely, they had already covered nearly a third of the path without encountering any danger at all.

This not only puzzled Li Miao but also gave him a bad feeling.

"Not happy about the lack of monsters? Then why didn’t you pick the left path to begin with?" Brother Yu laughed.

"It’s not that I want to fight, I just think..." Before he could finish, he stopped dead in his tracks. He stared ahead, a hint of resignation in his voice. "Knew it..."

The path before them was suddenly cut off, leaving a gap of at least five meters.

And it wasn’t just one gap.

There was one after another. The cliffside path had been shattered into more than ten separate, broken sections, all sloping downward.

’I knew the developers wouldn’t be this nice,’ Li Miao thought.

’As the saying goes, every gift of fate has a secret price tag...’

"What’s the big deal? We can just jump it," Brother Yu said dismissively.

They were in a game; their physical abilities were far beyond those of their real bodies. A childish gap like this wasn’t even an obstacle.

As he spoke, Brother Yu prepared to take a running start and leap across.

RUMBLE...

A faint rumbling continued, though it was unclear whether it came from the battlefield below or somewhere else.

"Hey, maybe we should be more careful?"

Li Miao said hesitantly.

’Something feels off,’ he thought.

"Careful is one thing, but it’s not like we can just refuse to cross," Brother Yu said. "We’ve come all this way. You’re not actually thinking of turning back, are you?"

Hearing this, Li Miao didn’t argue further. Brother Yu had a point.

’We’re already here. We can’t turn back because of one little setback, right? Who knows if the other path is even more dangerous?’

"My guess is this is designed to make you fall when you get careless and lose your center of gravity," Brother Yu said with conviction. "I’ll just use my sword to break my fall. Watch me."

With that, he took out the Candlefire Longsword he hadn’t used in ages. After taking a deep breath and getting a running start, he leaped powerfully toward the next section of the path.
