Chapter 142: How Do You Use This Thing?
Chapter 142 -138: How Do You Use This Thing?
Strictly speaking, the Mushroom Squad’s past four days had been anything but easy.
Four days ago, after leaving Nick’s lair, they had continued south until they reached the edge of the Lost Basin.
As it turned out, the place wasn’t as ominous as the rumors suggested.
There was no mist, nor were there any Elves… it just felt like a rather large basin.
The drop-off, however, was indeed quite high.
The four of them had approached a cliff’s edge to take a look and discovered the drop was at least 100 meters.
Moreover, the cliff face was incredibly steep, forming an almost perfect right angle.
Without tools, even an experienced Adventurer would have a hard time climbing back up after falling.
Of course, Lu Wei had no intention of casually strolling inside. He simply led the squad along their planned route.
But this was the edge of the basin, the very heart of Gelan Forest. Coupled with the fact that he was carrying a [Divine Blessing], a few unavoidable battles were to be expected.
A few Giant Spiders, a pack of Forest Wolves, and a bear goblin.
And a Giant Troll.
This last one was a High Level Monster, marked with an “Especially Dangerous” tag in the Adventurer’s Manual.
In addition to its immense Power, it also possessed a terrifying Regeneration ability.
Mirana had chopped off one of its arms, but it grew back a dozen or so seconds later.
It even had extremely high Physical Resistance. Even with the Force Field’s multiplier maxed out, the creature could still manage sluggish defenses and attacks.
In the end, Bai Ya remembered that Giant Trolls feared flame and strong acid, allowing Lu Wei to finally finish it off with a combination of his Fire Burning Magic and a Strong Acid Bottle.
All in all, it was a brutal fight.
Aside from Bai Ya, Lu Wei and the other two had all sustained some minor injuries.
But for a monster that could have wiped out 90% of the Adventurer Squads in Heitai Town, its loot was pitifully scarce!
There were no coin purses, no gems, no High Level Equipment—nothing at all!
All it had was a damn, dead-heavy, giant wooden club.
Luckily, Bai Ya was knowledgeable enough to know that a Giant Troll’s blood, fangs, and eyeballs were valuable materials that could fetch a high price. Thanks to her, their efforts hadn’t been a complete waste.
It had to be said that after these recent battles, Lu Wei’s budding overconfidence had been put in check.
He had started to think he could swagger through Gelan Forest unchallenged.
But reality had proven that even in the most Low Level Adventurer’s Land, one could encounter dangers far beyond expectations.
In that sense, the constant fighting over the past four days was actually a good thing.
At the very least, it gave him a more urgent desire to increase his Power—
Better Equipment, more Skills, and higher Attributes.
And to use the blue bottle of [Divine Blessing] he was holding.
…
…
“I’m going to check on Mirana.”
A dozen or so minutes later, Lu Wei was the first to finish lunch. He told Furen and Bai Ya, then got up and headed into the forest.
After making his way through the trees for a short while, he soon arrived at a clearing with a relatively open field of view.
There, Mirana stood on a small earthen mound, diligently sketching her map.
“How’s the map coming along?”
Walking to her side, Lu Wei casually glanced at the map.
Compared to when they had first set out nine days ago, most of the map was already filled with various symbols and lines.
Only about a seventh of it was still blank.
Considering this was the last high point on their route, it looked like she would probably have to rely on her imagination to complete the rest.
‘If Mirana wasn’t afraid of being held accountable, that is.’
“Almost done… there.”
Mirana carefully drew the final topographical line, checked it against the rolling sea of trees before her, and then carefully stowed the map back in its waterproof bag.
“Haven’t you eaten yet? I told you not to wait for me.”
“Don’t flatter yourself. I already finished. I was just bored and decided to come take a look.”
Lu Wei crossed his arms and watched her pack up. “After we get back this time, you should have enough points, right?”
“If I can get all the points, then it’ll be enough.”
Mirana said with some regret, “But the map isn’t detailed enough. Even if I fill in the blank areas, I might not get the full 700 points.”
“This is already great. We spent nine days just making one loop. It’s impossible to draw a detailed map in fifteen days.”
Lu Wei pursed his lips. “I think we’ve been plenty responsible. Other people probably just scribble nonsense all over theirs.”
“Perhaps. In any case, I won’t be short by much.”
Mirana let out a small sigh of relief. “Even if it’s not enough, there are still ten days until the Midsummer Festival. That should be enough time for me to complete one more Middle Level quest.”
“Ahem… perhaps it won’t be that much trouble.”
Lu Wei cleared his throat and reminded her, “Don’t forget about that Giant Troll.”
“Huh? But we didn’t take the Giant Troll’s head.”
Mirana was confused. “But we can’t claim the bounty and points without it, can we?”
Lu Wei shook his head. “No, you don’t need the head for a Giant Troll. The eyeballs can serve as proof of the kill.”
Mirana grew even more puzzled. “Really? Then why didn’t you tell me before?”
“Because I was planning to sell the eyeballs to a materials merchant.”
As Mirana stared in surprise, Lu Wei mumbled,
“Bai Ya said the buyback price for a pair of Giant Troll Eyes is about 5 Gold Coins, but the Adventurer Association’s bounty is only two Gold Coins and 200 points.”
“So…”
“Oh, I get it.”
Mirana was one of the few people in the Mushroom Squad with normal Intelligence and Perception, so she instantly understood what he was getting at.
“So you’re not planning to earn those extra 3 Gold Coins now?”
“If you’re short on points, then I guess I’ll have to forget about it.”
Lu Wei gave a magnanimous shrug. “We’re teammates, after all. And I feel terrible about what happened to Kairos.”
“If your plan really works and he can get his legs back, me earning a little less money is no big deal.”
“What are a mere three Gold Coins compared to a young man’s brilliant life that’s just waiting to begin?”
“Of course, three Gold Coins is no small sum.”
“But that’s fine. When it comes to helping friends and companions in need, I always do everything in my power.”
Spreading his hands, Lu Wei looked at Mirana with a smile, his expression seeming to say—
‘You know me. I’m just a good-hearted person.’
To be fair, if Kairos had heard those words, he probably would have been moved to tears.
Too bad Mirana wasn’t buying it.
After spending so much time with him, she knew exactly what kind of person he was.
Therefore.
“Is there something you need my help with?”
She glanced at him and shook her head with a sigh. “You don’t need all this build-up, you know. Just ask. If I can help, I won’t turn you down.”
‘Damn it! Have I really lost all my credibility?!’
“Uh, okay, I’ll just be direct then.”
Mumbling awkwardly, Lu Wei casually rested his right hand on his sword hilt while his left unfastened his waist pouch.
Then, as Mirana’s eyes widened in astonishment, he carefully took out the blue bottle of [Divine Blessing].
“Basically, I just wanted to ask… how do you use this thing?”
