Chapter 660: Chapter 533: Within a Month, I Want All Information on Him

This time, Xiao Mo not only survived a brush with death but also successfully completed his mission.

Xiang Niang had thought that, for a short while at least, another mission of near-certain death wouldn’t fall to Xiao Mo.

But who could have known? In the days that followed, the upper echelons of the Ten Thousand Demon Alliance in Quicksand City forced one highly dangerous mission after another on Xiao Mo.

What’s more, these were all mandatory assignments, giving Xiao Mo no room to refuse.

Xiang Niang was certain. This had to be the Eldest Prince of the Celestial Demon Country deliberately targeting Xiao Mo.

So, she tried to find Elder Tushan Hongxia of Tushan, hoping to ask her to seek justice for Xiao Mo.

But when she finally managed to get an audience with Tushan Hongxia, the Elder merely tossed off a casual remark: “The capable are always busy. The more dangerous the missions Xiao Mo undertakes, the more battle merits he’ll earn. The Ten Thousand Demon Alliance won’t treat him poorly.”

The old woman’s words made Xiang Niang’s chest tighten with fury.

‘This isn’t about whether he’s being treated poorly!’

‘What good are battle merits, no matter how high?’

‘You have to be alive to enjoy them!’

But Xiang Niang just couldn’t say these words to her face.

As far as she was concerned, the only reason she was even granted an audience was because Hongxia was showing her a sliver of respect as a junior of Tushan.

‘My words carry no weight. How could I possibly force her to change her mind?’

Still unwilling to give up, Xiang Niang then decided to spend some Spirit Stones to bribe the Deacons in Quicksand City into “overlooking” Xiao Mo.

But the moment they heard it was about “Xiao Mo,” they were so terrified they didn’t dare accept a single low-grade spirit stone.

It was as if Xiao Mo was a walking catastrophe—anyone associated with him was doomed!

“Damn it! Does that Chen Jue really have that much power? Does the entire Ten Thousand Demon Alliance have to help him deal with you? What a bullshit Demon Alliance! They’re all sons of bitches! I hope their sons are born without assholes and their daughters all end up in brothels! Goddammit! Ptooey!”

After hitting a dead end at every turn, Xiang Niang let loose a string of fiery curses in front of Xiao Mo, her chest heaving with rage.

“I was wondering what you were so busy with these past few days.” Xiao Mo chuckled upon seeing Xiang Niang’s flustered, indignant state. “So it was about this. That’s enough. Don’t waste your energy.”

“Sir!” Xiang Niang strode forward and pressed a hand down on the book in his, her voice filled with anxiety. “I’m doing all this for your safety!”

“Have you ever heard the expression…?” Xiao Mo asked, looking up at Xiang Niang with a calm expression.

“What expression?” Xiang Niang blinked, looking completely lost.

Xiao Mo smiled faintly. “The Emperor isn’t worried, but the eunuchs are.” He closed his book and turned to walk into his room.

“Wait… Sir… Sir!”

Xiang Niang tried to follow him into the room, but Xiao Mo had already activated an Array. All she could do was stomp her feet in frustration at the doorway, completely helpless.

Realizing there was nothing else she could do, Xiang Niang resorted to accompanying Xiao Mo on his missions.

However, Xiang Niang was well aware of her own strength.

She knew better than to tag along on the most perilous missions.

Xiang Niang understood that if she insisted on staying by his side, she wouldn’t be a help. On the contrary, she’d likely become a burden and get him killed.

So, whenever Xiao Mo left for a mission she couldn’t join, Xiang Niang could only wait alone in the courtyard, anxiously awaiting his return.

‘What on earth is Xiao Mo doing?’

This question often surfaced in Xiang Niang’s mind as she waited for him in the courtyard.

It was true that the more dangerous the mission, the greater the battle merits earned.

Many Cultivators whose lifespans were running out, or who were desperate for a breakthrough, would voluntarily take on such life-or-death missions, gambling everything for that one sliver of a chance to advance.

But Xiang Niang also knew that Xiao Mo was never the type of Cultivator who single-mindedly pursued higher Realms.

Besides, Xiao Mo was still young, with his whole life ahead of him.

The phrase “The end is near” simply didn’t apply to Xiao Mo.

Thankfully, however, Xiao Mo always managed to turn peril into safety, clawing his way back from the Ghost Gate every single time.

After a while, Xiang Niang even started to get used to living on edge…

And with every near-death experience, Xiao Mo’s Realm would advance a little.

After all, for a Cultivator, an epiphany forged between life and death was the most profound and direct form of enlightenment.

Even Cultivators of the Daoist Sect were no exception.

At this rate, Xiang Niang thought, Xiao Mo might even be on the verge of breaking through to the Nascent Soul Realm.

‘A Nascent Soul Realm Cultivator under thirty years old!’

‘That’s like a legendary prodigy…’

‘To think one would appear right beside me!’

Of course, where some found joy, others found only frustration.

Every time Xiao Mo returned alive, the expression on Chen Jue, the Eldest Prince of the Celestial Demon Country, would darken.

Without exception, the missions the Ten Thousand Demon Alliance assigned to Xiao Mo were the most dangerous ones available.

Chen Jue reckoned that if he were the one sent, he probably wouldn’t have made it back alive either.

And yet, Xiao Mo just wouldn’t die.

On several occasions, a dozen or so people would go out on a mission together, and everyone else would perish, with only Xiao Mo returning alive!

‘Is Xiao Mo really that hard to kill?’

Inside the room, Chen Jue’s face was ashen with rage. He snatched up a teacup and hurled it to the ground, sending shards flying everywhere.

If his father hadn’t repeatedly warned him that Xiao Mo had to die by ‘accident’—preferably at the hands of an enemy, with a plausible cause—he would have begged his father to have Xiao Mo executed immediately.

As for Xiao Mo himself…

He, of course, had no idea what was going through Chen Jue’s mind.

And even if he did, he wouldn’t have cared in the slightest.

Whenever Xiao Mo had a moment to spare from his daily cultivation, he would simply sit quietly in the courtyard, reading a book.
