Xian Xichun led Tushan Jing Ci and Xiao Mo to the Steward Hall. Before long, they had completed the procedures for leaving the academy.

In truth, it was mainly Tushan Jing Ci who needed to go through all the steps. A Scholar’s Attendant like Xiao Mo only had to sign his name.

After finishing the paperwork, the three of them went to the Zhenniu Building in Cold Mountain City for a few drinks.

Xian Xichun watched the young man and woman sitting side-by-side, and the more he looked, the more he felt they were a perfect match.

But when he thought about what they might have to face next, he couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

"Jing Ci would like to toast Mr. Xian."

Tushan Jing Ci raised her cup and spoke graciously, a smile playing in her eyes.

"If you ever have the time in the future, Mr. Xian, please feel free to visit us at Tushan. Xiao Mo and I will be sure to give you a warm welcome."

"Hahaha..." Xian Xichun chuckled and raised his cup, his eyes full of gratification. "Since Miss Tushan herself has said so, then I will certainly have to pay Tushan a visit someday."

"Then we shall await your arrival." Tushan Jing Ci drained her cup in one go.

"Whether at Tushan or at Cold Mountain Academy, no matter where you find yourselves in the future, you must cultivate diligently."

Xian Xichun looked at the two of them, a touch of sentimentality in his gaze, and his tone gradually grew serious.

"More importantly, you must hold fast to your original heart. If a person loses it, the Great Dao beneath their feet will stray further and further. The faster they go, the more perilous it becomes. Remember this?"

"Yes." Xiao Mo and Tushan Jing Ci replied in unison, their expressions reverent. "We will remember our teacher’s lesson."

As he finished speaking, Xian Xichun took a Jade Pendant from his robes. He held it in his palm, studying it for a moment, before applying pressure with both hands and splitting it in two.

"I don’t have any fine gifts for you."

He handed one half of the Jade Pendant to each of them, his tone casual and open.

"This is just a common little trinket. It’s called an Ink Jade. A woman made it a long time ago. The craftsmanship isn’t the best, but the materials are decent. If you wear it when you meditate, it can help you enter a state of concentration more quickly."

"This..." Tushan Jing Ci and Xiao Mo glanced at each other, not knowing what to say.

"Now, now, I told you to take it, so just take it. What, you think a gift from your teacher is beneath you?"

Without another word, Xian Xichun placed half of the Ink Jade in front of Tushan Jing Ci, his tone carrying a hint of feigned displeasure.

"If you don’t accept it, I’m going to get upset."

"Then, thank you, Mr. Xian." Seeing she couldn’t refuse, Tushan Jing Ci accepted it, though she still seemed a bit embarrassed. "It’s just that... you’ve given us a parting gift, but we have nothing to give you in return..."

"Hahaha, no need, no need."

Xian Xichun cheerfully downed a cup of wine and waved his hand.

"Jing Ci, that poem you wrote has earned me quite a bit of face. When I’m around my colleagues, I have to resist the urge to recite it over and over, just to let them all know that it was written by one of my students."

"A poem?" Xiao Mo paused, looking at Tushan Jing Ci in confusion.

"What, you don’t know, Xiao Mo?" Xian Xichun seemed surprised. "Jing Ci wrote this poem for you, you know."

"I’ve been focused on my cultivation at the academy, and Jing Ci never mentioned it, so I really didn’t know." Xiao Mo smiled faintly and shook his head.

"Is that so? Well then, let me recite it for you. Listen closely."

Xian Xichun cleared his throat, about to begin with great enthusiasm.

"The first line of the poem is, ’Three years to this day...’"

"Mr. Xian!"

Tushan Jing Ci hurriedly cut him off. She lowered her head shyly, stealing a glance at Xiao Mo beside her, the tips of her ears flushing red. Her voice was pleading, "You... you don’t have to recite it..."

"Hahaha, what’s this? Feeling shy in front of your sweetheart?"

Xian Xichun laughed heartily.

"Alright, alright, I won’t recite it. Come on, eat, drink."

He happily poured them cup after cup of wine.

As he drank, Xian Xichun explained the current situation in the Demon Race’s World in detail. He also shared the life lessons he had learned over the years, one by one.

This could be considered the final lesson he would teach them as their teacher.

Xiao Mo sat to the side, listening quietly. ’This wine Mr. Xian is drinking today... it isn’t just a farewell toast for the two of us,’ he mused. ’It’s more like he’s drinking to himself. It’s as if, not long after this meal is over, he’s about to go do something momentous.’

An hour later, Xian Xichun was dead drunk, slumped over the table and muttering something incoherently.

Tushan Jing Ci had no choice but to settle the bill and have Xiao Mo carry Mr. Xian back to Cold Mountain Academy.

"We scholars! We must manage our families, govern the state, and bring peace to the world!"

"We Sword Cultivators, our swords must be fast! And sharp! A pity... my sword isn’t sharp enough... and not fast enough..."

"If my sword had been fast enough, sharp enough back then... she wouldn’t have..."

"Sigh, forget it, forget it..."

"Xiao Mo, you have to remember this. The Confucian Saint I admire most said that in learning, knowledge and action must be one! You can’t just think about it, you have to do it!"

"Not thinking before you act is no good. But what’s the point of thinking if you don’t act on it afterward? It’s just wasted thought, isn’t it?"

"That Saint’s wisdom is truly profound!"

"A pity about those bastards in the World of Ten Thousand Laws! They call themselves scholars, but they’re not even as good as a scoundrel like me! Pah!"

Slung over Xiao Mo’s shoulder, Xian Xichun was carried toward the city outskirts, his mouth never stopping for a moment as he cursed and grumbled, his voice so loud the entire street could hear him.
