Chapter 574 - 470: We Won’t Play With Them, We’re Going Home

  • Next Chapter

Children’s emotions come quickly, and they go just as fast.

The next morning, Tushan Jing Ci woke up early, put her feelings aside, and headed to Shallow Study Peak for class.

And Xiao Mo, as her Scholar’s Attendant, naturally had to go with her.

Shallow Study Peak was home to the young children of the Demon Race, and the Shallow Study Book Hall there taught only introductory subjects.

Once these young members of the Demon Race had learned enough, they would move on to other peaks to study more advanced and profound subjects.

Inside the Book Hall, Tushan Jing Ci saw many other children her age.

There were both boys and girls.

These Demon Race children were either descendants of a Demon Country’s Royal Family or the children of various Sect Leaders. Their bloodlines were all extraordinarily prestigious.

She even saw several people who had been at her birthday banquet: Chen Jue, the Eldest Prince of the Celestial Demon Country; Lou Huo, the Eldest Prince of the Fire Demon Country; and Lei Qiu, the Closed-door Disciple of the Thunder Roar Sect’s Leader, among others.

When they saw Tushan Jing Ci, their eyes lit up with pleasant surprise, and they all hurried forward to greet her.

The other children in the Book Hall all turned to look at Tushan Jing Ci as well.

Even the other little Demon Race girls thought Tushan Jing Ci was pretty.

And everyone wants to be friends with a pretty child.

Not to mention, their elders had specifically instructed them to get on good terms with Tushan Jing Ci.

So, upon seeing Tushan Jing Ci, all the children began racking their brains for a way to strike up a conversation.

But one thing puzzled them: why was the Scholar’s Attendant behind her a member of the Human Race?

But they had to admit...

This human was rather good-looking.

Still, no matter how good-looking he was, he was just a human.

Before long, a bell rang out across Shallow Study Peak, and the teacher walked into the Book Hall right on time.

This teacher possessed Literary Dao Fortune, but the horns on his forehead marked him as a member of the Demon Race.

Since Xiao Mo and the other Scholar’s Attendants were not permitted to study inside the Book Hall, they could only step out and listen from the courtyard.

As Xiao Mo listened to the teacher’s lecture, he also observed the other Scholar’s Attendants.

These Scholar’s Attendants were all looking at Xiao Mo with disdain.

Xiao Mo knew they looked down on him for being a human.

It was as if a dish that usually appeared on the dinner table had suddenly and inexplicably taken a seat at the table with them.

In fact, Xiao Mo figured that if they weren’t afraid of offending Tushan Mansion, they would have already started causing trouble for him.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Xiao Mo looked back into the Book Hall and resumed listening to the teacher’s lecture.

Sitting at her desk, Tushan Jing Ci was listening attentively at first, but she soon grew bored.

’I understand every word the teacher is saying... so why can’t I understand what he means when he puts them all together?’

Tushan Jing Ci propped her little chin on her hand, a gloomy look on her face.

Soon, Tushan Jing Ci’s gaze shifted to Xiao Mo, and she gave him a surreptitious little wave.

Xiao Mo saw her and responded with a smile and a nod, but then he shook his head, signaling for her to pay attention.

But Tushan Jing Ci just huffed and lifted her chin, then held out her small, fair hand, wanting to play rock-paper-scissors with him.

Seeing Jing Ci’s playful look, Xiao Mo sighed in resignation. He could only pretend to ignore her and continue focusing on the teacher’s lecture himself.

’Honestly, what’s so interesting about this? Why is Xiao Mo paying such close attention? Don’t tell me he’s afraid of girls cheating him when he grows up...’

Tushan Jing Ci pouted, muttering softly to herself.

But since Xiao Mo was ignoring her, she had no choice but to go back to listening attentively.

However, the teacher’s voice was like a lullaby, and Tushan Jing Ci soon found herself growing drowsy.

Before long, Tushan Jing Ci’s little head began to bob, dipping lower and lower like a chick pecking at rice.

The dozing little girl was quickly spotted by the teacher.

The teacher walked over and tapped her desk with his ruler in resignation.

Startled, Tushan Jing Ci flinched, her tail poofing out in fright. She was instantly wide awake.

Tushan Jing Ci looked around and saw the other children laughing at her, and her cheeks flushed red.

Finally, after an exhausting morning, class was dismissed.

Utterly exhausted, Tushan Jing Ci immediately flopped onto her desk, feeling her head buzz.

It felt like she’d heard a lot, but in reality, she couldn’t seem to remember a single thing.

"You’re Tushan Jing Ci, right?"

As Tushan Jing Ci was getting ready to return to her courtyard, a few little girls walked over to her.

"Uh-huh, I’m Tushan Jing Ci. What is it?" Tushan Jing Ci tilted her little head curiously.

"Jing Ci, you’re so pretty! Do you want to come play with us?" another little girl asked. "I heard lots of peach blossoms have bloomed on Peach Blossom Peak, and they’re really beautiful."

"See the peach blossoms?" Tushan Jing Ci paused for a moment, then nodded her little head happily. "Okay, okay! After I have lunch, Xiao Mo and I will come find you so we can go together."

"Xiao Mo?" the little girl, whose name was Hua Mei, asked in confusion. "Who in our Book Hall is named Xiao Mo?"

"Xiao Mo is my friend. He’s standing right outside the window, see?"

As she spoke, Tushan Jing Ci pointed to Xiao Mo, who was waiting for her outside the Book Hall.

"Jing Ci, he’s a human. He isn’t qualified to join our gathering."

"Yeah! My mommy says the Human Race is filthy. Why are you friends with a human, Jing Ci?"

"Mhm, my daddy told me that humans are inferior beings."

"Jing Ci, you can bring anyone you want, but you can’t bring a human..."

Seeing that Xiao Mo was a servant—and a human one at that—the little girls’ expressions changed, and they all chimed in.

Listening to them, Tushan Jing Ci’s frown deepened, and her eyes filled with anger. "What are you saying?! Don’t you dare talk about Xiao Mo like that! Forget the peach blossoms! I’m not going! Move! I don’t like you!"

With that, Tushan Jing Ci hugged her books, jumped off her chair, and stomped outside like a feisty little hen.

"Hey? Jing Ci..."

The other little girls stood frozen, completely unable to comprehend why a Demon would get angry over a human.

...

"What happened? Did they bully you?"

Xiao Mo asked in confusion as Tushan Jing Ci walked out of the Book Hall.

"No, they didn’t bully me." Tushan Jing Ci glanced behind her, then looked away. "They wanted to invite me to see the peach blossoms."

"Isn’t that a good thing?" Xiao Mo smiled. "You can make a few more friends."

"I’m not going," Tushan Jing Ci said with a huff.

"Why not?" Xiao Mo was even more baffled.

"There’s no why. I’m just not going."

Tushan Jing Ci stuffed the books she was holding into the bamboo box on Xiao Mo’s back, then grabbed his sleeve and started to walk away from the Book Hall.

"Come on, we’re not playing with them anyway! Let’s go home!"
