Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead
Chapter 981 - 412: This Is What the Eternal Light Sect Does
Chapter 981: Chapter 412: This Is What the Eternal Light Sect Does
Almost at the same moment Wu Chang and Erin entered the Soul Light Cathedral, Han’er, carrying the Light of Steadfastness, arrived at the Spirit Medicine Cathedral.
He was very familiar with this place; every time the United Council met, Wick chose to convene here, as it had been for thirty years.
Throughout Sirena City, aside from his home and the Eternal Light Church, this was the place he was most familiar with.
However, in the past, he always came here by carriage, invited in by Wick.
Today, he was fighting his way in.
Unlike the ordinary node where Thompson was, the small central node where the Spirit Medicine Cathedral was located had a style more akin to Blood Moon Eternal Life.
The followers weren’t simply kneeling on the ground, but were on both knees, looking up at the remnant moon in the sky, hands clasped in front of them, murmuring prayers.
As the prayers rang out, blood tears flowed from their wide-open eyes, their limbs and torsos showed obvious deformities, either swelling abnormally, sprouting sharp spikes, or their skin manifested tree-bark-like patterns.
Han’er could sense that the Mystical Ceremony here wasn’t drawing from the followers’ Power of Faith and Life Force; instead, it absorbed the followers directly, merging them with the ceremony.
Han’er frowned at the scene before him, reminding him of many unpleasant memories.
He walked through the praying crowd, heading into the church.
As soon as he stepped into the crowd, he heard a hoarse voice calling from behind:
"Save me..."
He turned around to look at the speaker, surprised that the person could maintain consciousness.
In the moment Han’er turned his head, he noticed that the eyes of those praying around him were all turning towards him, their pupils on him, seemingly expressing the same message.
Save me.
Wick didn’t just retain the consciousness of one of the followers, but all of them.
The purpose was simple: to let the followers feel more pain.
This was common knowledge during the miracle era, pain and Death were the bedsheets of miracles.
Han’er halted his steps, reached out to grasp the speaker, attempting to move him from his position to free him from the ceremony’s control.
Rip.
As Han’er pulled, the speaker’s deformed leg shredded his pants, and he saw the speaker’s leg attached to the ground from knee to calf.
He tried pulling several more, finding each one fused with the miracle-guiding ceremony.
To save them, he must destroy the miracle-guiding ceremony.
Realizing the Status, he stopped wasting his efforts, pretending not to see the gaze of the surrounding followers, ignoring their cries, and walked straight towards the Spirit Medicine Cathedral.
Inside the Spirit Medicine Cathedral, the fire basin where the White Wolf descended had now been transformed into the core of the small central node.
The place originally used for the United Council meetings was now replaced with a long dining table, piled high with exquisite food provisions.
Wick sat at one end of the long table, devouring the food inside the plates.
Han’er had never seen anyone eat so urgently, as if any delay in swallowing would lead to immediate starvation. Even those Ascetics nearly dying on pilgrimage didn’t eat so exaggeratedly upon entering the city.
Across the ten-meter-long dining table, Wick had already consumed half of the food. His withered, skinny frame had now bloated to over three hundred pounds, with all the fat straining the seams of his tailored ceremonial robe.
Noticing Han’er entering the Divine Hall, Wick paused in his eating and looked up at Han’er.
"Han’er, have you come here to witness a miracle?"
Han’er cautiously approached Wick, his right hand gripping the Warhammer’s handle behind, ensuring he could enter combat at any moment.
"Witness what miracle?"
Wick didn’t respond directly but pointed to the opposite side of the table and said, "No rush, let me finish this meal first."
Han’er sat facing Wick, watching him resume eating and said:
"Archbishop Wick, it’s the first time I’ve seen you with such an appetite."
Wick replied while eating:
"Thanks to the Ability of the White Wolf Divine Envoy, I’ve regained my youthful body, and what I’m about to do will consume a lot of Energy."
Han’er asked, "You previously mentioned that rather than becoming a follower of God, you wish to be a part of faith."
Wick paused, setting down his knife and fork, eyes filled with reminiscence, and said:
"Since I became conscious, I’ve constantly heard tales about the first miracle from people — parents, teachers, the Church’s Priest..."
"No matter the religion, followers would know of the first miracle, and many, rather than worshiping God, revered the Great Sage, even adding praise for the Great Sage in their prayers."
"Even hundreds of years after his passing, he’s still remembered by everyone; what happiness that must be."
Wick looked towards Han’er, speaking excitedly:
"As a mortal, becoming part of faith — is there anything more thrilling than this?"
Han’er fell silent, not voicing a word out of respect for the years of the church’s maintenance fees paid.
In his view, erasing the Extraordinary was more exciting than becoming a part of faith.
Wick continued:
"What I can’t accept is that only a few years after the miracle disappeared, the followers who once devoted themselves to the Great Sage began to forget him."
"I can’t accept their betrayal, but this betrayal made me think of the Great Sage."
"The same doubt in faith, the same crisis, our current situation is very similar to that of the Great Sage’s past. I started to understand; what I should do isn’t to remind people of the Great Sage and miracles, but to become the new Great Sage, the new first miracle."
