Chapter 1007: Chapter 420: Source of Anomaly_3

Wu Chang knew what was going to happen next. He opened the Golden Light and threw Erin inside, saying:

"You rest for a while first."

Wu Chang turned his gaze back ahead, locking eyes with the Surface People’s hostile stares.

Currently, there were more than five hundred Surface People entrenched in Collette City. The vast majority of Surface People harbored animosity towards the Underground People who had sought refuge in the Underground Shelter.

When they saw He Yi and Wu Zhuoqun’s mecha entering Collette City, they began to roar loudly at them. Due to changes in the vocal cords and prolonged isolation, He Yi and the others could hardly understand what the Surface People were saying.

It was only through the mecha’s built-in translator they could comprehend their words: "Get out of our city!"

Human preferences for certain species are usually judged by appearance.

The looks of the Surface People, not to say pleasing to the eye, were at least unbearable to behold.

Calling them people was already the utmost kindness of the Underground People. Treating them as equals was out of the question.

He Yi often interacted with the Surface People. In the face of their threats, He Yi’s response was always urbane and affable.

He let out a series of roars through the translator, consisting of only three words.

"Die or leave."

The Surface People angrily retorted: "Evil Underground People, you wish to enter our city unless you cross over our corpses first!"

Of course, the Surface People wouldn’t pamper someone like He Yi. Brandishing various weapons, they charged at He Yi. Among them were firearms and long sabers used by mecha, which were spoils from ambushing Surface exploration teams.

Among these weapons of the exploration teams, some bore the mark of Underground Shelter No. 88.

Seeing this scene, He Yi didn’t hesitate at all. His hands grasped the mecha rifle, and various lock-on weapons popped out from different parts of the mech, raining fire upon the Surface People.

One against five hundred, He Yi had formed a suppressing fire in a short time, scattering the Surface People who fled in disarray, leaving behind a mess of limbs.

A couple of dozen brave Surface People leaped from nearby high-rises, trying to descend rapidly upon them.

He Yi aimed the muzzle on his shoulder at the sky, gripping his mechanical long saber, ready for the ensuing close quarters battle.

But before the Surface People could land, Wu Chang waved his hand, and a water curtain appeared above everyone.

The free-falling Surface People plunged into the thin water curtain as if diving into the deep sea, vanishing without a splash.

He Yi widened his eyes in shock; he didn’t expect Wu Chang to have such a method.

"Where did you send them?"

Wu Chang replied, "Into the water. If you’re curious, I can send you in to take a look."

He Yi felt a foreboding growing inside; he vaguely sensed that Wu Chang wasn’t speaking kindly, and declined:

"I’m not that curious."

Wu Chang pouted, disappointed. Earlier, being used as a punching bag by He Yi so many times, if He Yi had asked, he might have used the Blind Abyss to get even.

For He Yi, the Blind Abyss’s abilities were merely surprising, but for the Surface People, it was utterly terrifying.

They differed from Underground Shelter members, having never seen outsiders with special abilities or experienced the wonders of the Desire Stele. In their eyes, Wu Chang’s displayed ability was incomprehensible.

In facing He Yi, even if they couldn’t win, they wouldn’t fear him, but against the unfathomable Wu Chang, they quivered.

The Surface People stood still for a moment, then turned in unison to flee, completely disregarding what they said before about entering Collette City over their dead bodies.

As the Surface People fled, He Yi was about to proceed when Wu Chang suddenly stopped him.

"Hold on."

Wu Chang opened the Blind Abyss, releasing the Surface People previously swallowed by it.

The time between the Surface People entering the Blind Abyss and being released was less than a minute, yet they all emerged devoid of vitality.

With the robust bodies the Surface People displayed, each comparable to a player of twenty-three or twenty-four levels, such life force shouldn’t perish so easily.

He took out the All-Knowing Crystal to inquire about the reason. Moments later, the All-Knowing Crystal responded:

"It’s because these Surface People, their bodies have already died."

Wu Chang asked in confusion, "How could that be? They were lively just now."

The All-Knowing Crystal replied, "Because a certain power exists within them, temporarily holding off their death. Upon entering the Blind Abyss, that power dissipated, and their bodies returned to death."

Wu Chang furrowed his brow, expanded the Spatial Domain, and with a casual grab, a Surface Person who hadn’t run far was teleported back and pinned to the ground by him.

He took out the long-unused Soul Cleansing Banner, waved it, and entered the Divine Travel Perspective, realizing the All-Knowing Crystal was right. These Surface People were filled with black energy signifying death, with no sign of white representing life.

Only a deeper black encased the deathly black energy, maintaining them in a half-dead state.

Wu Chang waved the Soul Cleansing Banner, applying a technique to suppress Evil Qi, purging the deep black from the Surface People’s bodies, rendering them as lifeless as robots without power.

This maneuver made He Yi frown deeply as he watched at the side.

He thought to himself that although Wu Chang was a poor mecha pilot, if he didn’t use a mecha and played with such dark arts, he might truly be no match for Wu Chang.

Wu Chang didn’t notice what He Yi was thinking. He released the Surface Person from his grasp, enlightenment dawning in his eyes.

No wonder when the Surface Purification Generators activated previously, these Surface People acted as though a catastrophe loomed, escaping madly; exposure to the Purifying Light meant instant death for them.

It wasn’t the Surface People who feared the Purifying Light, but the black energy within them that did.

"With no hindrances, let’s move on."

Wu Zhuoqun watched, and following his past memories, led them towards the city center of Collette City.

In the city center, Wu Chang found the source of the spatial anomaly he sensed.

Originally positioned above the city’s central plaza, an abruptly constructed pitch-black building stood. Although the building appeared in the square, it clashed with its surroundings, exuding a feeling of dislocation caused by a layering error.

All the doors and windows of the building were sealed, looking as though it had been abandoned.

Upon seeing the building, Wu Chang squinted his eyes because its shape was exactly the same as the Siegfried City Orphanage, conjured from Amber’s mind in the Cursed Dungeon.

Siegfried City Orphanage, formed based on Amber’s past memories, was actually a secret research facility the Bright Society established in the Middle Layer to create Imaginary Divinity.

The existence of the secret research facility was incidentally discovered and exposed to the public by a Painter who stumbled upon it.

Later, pressured by the Four Major Organizations of the Realm of Reason, the Bright Society ostensibly abandoned the secret research facility, though covert activities never ceased.

Mercurially manipulated, the Underground Shelter, serving as the Pillar of the Present World, was itself situated in the Middle Layer. According to He Yun, the anomaly on the surface land only began after the Underground Shelter was sealed.

Could it be that the black building before us is one of the Bright Society’s secret research facilities?
