Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger
Chapter 709 - 310: Cola: Obviously You’re Only My Underling_2
Chen Yuan squinted slightly, muttering softly, "Hmm, a flying flame?"
The young cadres were all astonished, but Chen Yuan, who had seen all sorts of bizarre things, reacted calmly.
A flying flame? Would a flying dog be any more unusual?
"What about you, what clues do you have?" Chen Yuan turned to look at another Flowing Fire Spirit Monkey, expecting an answer.
"Squee-oh!"
This Flowing Fire Spirit Monkey had discovered peculiar footprints by a hot spring!
Very large footprints!
"Hmm?"
Chen Yuan, sharply catching the keywords, quickly turned to look at the towering Frost Giant, a smile rising: "Huge footprints?"
This discovery seemed all too familiar; could it be another massive Pet Beast?
As thoughts turned, Chen Yuan smiled and said, "Let’s go, take us to see them."
The Flowing Fire Spirit Monkey nodded obediently, while the Monkey King next to it looked full of suspicion.
How come it had never heard of these things?
Led by the Flowing Fire Spirit Monkey, the group arrived at the most secluded hot spring, and sure enough, they saw the remnants of enormous footprints.
These footprints were very similar to the Frost Giant’s, but the edges were faintly charred, as if scorched by fire.
"What big footprints."
Zhang Hao crouched down to take a closer look, then compared the size with his hand, suddenly realizing that the footprint was as big as two of his heads.
What Pet Beast could leave such a footprint?
Many thoughts flashed through his mind, while Chen Yuan silently looked at the Frost Giant beside him, the corner of his mouth lifted: "Perhaps we’ll soon meet one of your kind."
"Roar?"
The Frost Giant’s amber eyes flickered with a hint of puzzlement, then it lowered its gaze, staring intently at the large footprint on the ground.
For a moment it looked at its own legs, then the footprint, finally nodding.
Zhang Hao leaned his head over the large footprint, gestured to the Flowing Fire Spirit Monkey leader, indicating his head was not as large as the footprint, and then grinned: "As far as I know, no human has been born with footprints this big."
Then, he looked up at the Frost Giant and joked, "I suspect the Pet Beast in question is about the same size as this guy."
The Flowing Fire Spirit Monkey leader looked at the massive Frost Giant and nodded gravely.
"Cola. It’s your turn now," Chen Yuan instructed.
"Yip yip!"
Cola replied excitedly, running enthusiastically to the large footprint, lowering its head to sniff carefully at the scent lingering in it.
Seeing this, Zhang Hao couldn’t help but quip, "I hope this Pet Beast doesn’t have stinky feet."
"Yip yip!"
Hearing this, Cola paused in its actions.
Originally, it didn’t find any strange scent in the footprint, but upon hearing Zhang Hao’s remark, it seemed to smell something stinky, making it slightly nauseous.
Cola gave Zhang Hao an angry glare, playfully stirring up a light breeze, dropping snowflakes on Zhang Hao’s head.
Zhang Hao casually brushed the snow from his head, laughing, "Brother Cola, you continue as if you didn’t hear that."
"Yip!"
Cola snorted coldly and continued focusing on scent-tracking.
A moment later,
Cola’s eyes lit up, its tail wagging.
It had picked up a unique scent not belonging to any Pet Beast present, reminiscent of the Frost Giant—vast and heavy as a boulder.
A knowing smile appeared on Chen Yuan’s face, and he nodded slightly: "Hmm, can you lead us to it?"
"Yip!"
Cola howled, eyes shining brightly.
In terms of strength, it may not match the Monkey King, but when it comes to tracking Pet Beasts, the Monkey King is just a subordinate!
Cola looked at Chen Yuan, then followed the still lingering scent, trotting forward.
Chen Yuan and the little ones followed closely, with Zhang Hao and others also following behind, eager to find the culprit while the Flowing Fire Spirit Monkeys pursued closely.
For a moment, a bustling crowd of both humans and Pet Beasts advanced towards the northwest.
The further they went, the more puzzled Zhang Hao’s expression became: "Isn’t that cave with the hot spring just ahead?"
Chen Yuan looked ahead and, sure enough, saw the familiar cave.
Cola rushed into the cave without hesitation, passing through the rocky passages. Spark slowly spread its wings and lifted into the air, the golden flames enveloping its body dispelling the dense darkness, lighting up the path to the hot spring.
Thankfully, the rocky passage was extraordinarily tall, allowing the Frost Giant to squeeze through with a slight bend.
However, when a group of Pet Beasts followed closely behind, even the towering rocky passage became cramped, and amidst the pushing and shoving, an unexpected fork in the road appeared.
Cola chose to take the left path.
"Yuan, if I remember correctly, that hot spring should be on the right," Zhang Hao whispered, approaching Chen Yuan.
"Hmm," Chen Yuan, having a good memory, nodded slightly.
Following Cola’s lead, they advanced further. Soon, the rocky passage vanished, and their view opened up.
At the same moment, a heatwave several times hotter than the hot spring rushed towards them, mingled with a strong scent of sulfur.
"So hot!"
One of the young cadres, still an Initial-tier Beastmaster, instantly felt the heat, using his hand to fan himself in an attempt to dispel the warmth.
The Initial-tier Beastmasters struggled with the heat while the Mid-tier Beastmasters only showed a slight change in expression, and the Pet Beasts had excellent heat resistance.
Spark had ventured deep into the fire at Flame Mountain, while Cola and the Fallen Meteor Horned Beast were both tier three Pet Beasts, and the Flowing Fire Spirit Monkeys, as fire-type Pet Beasts, found the heat comforting.
"Whimper..."
Except for Sprite, who was only tier one.
The heatwave blasted every inch of Sprite’s body, surrounding it with scorching magma, making the ground feel unbearably hot beneath its feet.
It raised its scorched left paw, and when its right paw became equally hot, it lifted it too, losing balance and falling to the ground.
Its petite body lay close to the ground, better sensing the scorching heat from below. Eyes wide open, Sprite whimpered in panic and leapt up.
"Roar..."
Just then, the Frost Giant moved forward, like a thick shield from the land of winter, protecting the people and Pet Beasts behind it with a chilling aura emanating from its body.
The cold spread, the heatwave dissipated, enveloping them in refreshing coolness.
Sprite, with its tongue out, finally felt cool, staring dazedly at the majestic silhouette of the Frost Giant, eyes full of admiration.
Cola noticed Sprite’s gaze and felt a subtle sense of threat.
Oh no!
Will my status as the leader be lost?
With a serious expression, Cola roared, unleashing a whirlwind that completely dispelled the lingering heat.
"Awoo~"
Cola raised its head high, anticipating Sprite’s adoring gaze.
But Sprite kept its eyes on the Frost Giant’s back, not sparing a glance at Cola.
"Awoo..."
Cola lowered its head, sighing.
In the past, someone would only be my little follower...
Once the Frost Giant stepped forward to disperse the heatwave, everyone followed Cola onward.
The farther they went, the higher the temperature got, with scorching heatwaves from the ground engulfing them.
In a daze, Chen Yuan seemed to be back at Flame Mountain.
Yet the temperature here was not as intense as the fires at Flame Mountain, not so severe as to hinder their progress.
Still, the Frost Giant began to struggle, its thick blue-white ice armor shedding liquid like sweat, slowing its pace.
"Spark, you handle it," Chen Yuan said.
"Chirp."
As the Fire-breathing Bird took flight, the blazing heatwave from the ground seemed to meet its nemesis, quickly retreating, causing the heat in the cave to vanish instantly.
"Roar..."
The Frost Giant stared dazedly at the big sister. It didn’t understand why it seemed so effortless?
Chen Yuan, calm-faced, suddenly asked Shao Yang, "Do you know about the Blazing Giant?"
The question from Advisor Chen came out of nowhere, causing Shao Yang to pause, then frantically search his memory for information about the Blazing Giant, cautiously responding as if facing a teacher:
"The Blazing Giant, a fire-type Pet Beast, naturally born with Commander qualities, notable for its blazing head and feet, dwelling in volcanoes and geothermal areas..."
Zhang Hao raised his head abruptly, looking at Chen Yuan, "Yuan, do you mean there’s a Blazing Giant here?"
Chen Yuan nodded, "Most likely."
He paused slightly, turning to the Frost Giant, "It should be a member of your Giant Race inside. How about you negotiate with it?"
"If all goes well, you might even gain a little follower."
