Beast Bonding System: Cutting Ties In A Post Apocalyptic World.
Chapter 75: A useful snake.
Trinity’s eyes widened. A King beast! this was the kind of news that would shake the world. High level beasts were monstrous sized and very powerful. One could only imagine what a King level beast looked like, or how powerful it was. If the Somnivores were nurturing such beasts, they were gearing to take back earth under their control.
"Are you absolutely sure? A King level beast is trying to cross the veil? I need you to be sure." Trinity said with packed strength in her voice. "Blink once if you are making a joke. Blink twice if you mean what you say."
Julia scratched her forehead, frowning. Blinking! Really! She blinked twice anyway, and added verbally, "The Soul Maiden who received the soul transferred message is currently downstairs. You can confirm this with her." Again, she made sure to pull herself as far from the equation as she could. "But... Trinity....divine maiden, there haven’t been any official reports of strange monster sightings anywhere near the borders. This could be the report of a misguided, scared, young woman."
Trinity frowned, tapping her chin. "Yes, I have not received such reports. High level beasts continue to evolve; she could be mistaken. After all, how could she tell it was king level?"
"Exactly," Julia said, trying to find a logical excuse to calm her master down. "Maybe the message from the other side was faked to stir up trouble? You know how those Somnivores love to play tricks on our minds. They could be sending fake distress signals just to make us panic and create chaos. Then, they can slip out and take advantage of the situation. We have to look at all possibilities, not lose our minds."
Trinity nodded slowly, the tension in her shoulders dropping a fraction. "True. But we cannot be careless, regardless of whether it’s a trick or a real leak, we must act. Increase the number of soldiers at the borders across all nations immediately. Double their weapons. We should build more walls too, just in case there is such a thing as a king beast."
The mayor immediately stepped forward, puffing out his chest. "Leave it to me, My Lady! I will personally draft the military orders and send them out to the generals!"
Julia rolled her eyes so hard it practically hurt. "Oh shut the hell up, Logan. That’s a job for the Commanders of the armies, not yours. Don’t go stealing jobs just to look important."
The mayor’s smile instantly turned sour. He absolutely hated Julia because she was the only one who constantly called him out on his nonsense, and Julia thoroughly enjoyed doing it. She loved putting him down before the divine maiden while exaggerating her own importance.
Before the mayor could bark back an angry reply, a heavy, urgent knock rattled the large iron doors. The double doors swung open, and a tall man covered in army combat gear strode into the hall. It was Amos.... the commander of the Mystic Sanctum’s forces. He looked completely out of breath, his chest heaving.
"Divine Maiden." Amos exhaled, bowing respectfully. "You told us to report immediately if anything unusual happened in any of the gazetted dungeons."
Every single person in the room froze, all of their attention solely focused on the man.
Trinity leaned forward on her throne, her eyes flashing with a dangerous, icy light. "Speak. What happened?"
Amos took off his heavy silver helmet, his salt and pepper hair that was messy and soaked in sweat. He wiped his forehead and said breathlessly, "It is about the Starise Dungeon, My divine maiden."
"The Starise Dungeon? That mess!" Mayor Logan burst out, the words practically bubbling out of his mouth in excitement. "What happened to it? Speak fast! Don’t keep us waiting!"
Before Amos could utter another word, Julia stepped right between Amos and the Mayor. She turned toward Trinity, her face completely serious. "My divine maiden, I do not think Logan needs to hear this information, It could be very delicate."
Logan’s eyes grew as wide as saucers. He sputtered, pointing a finger at his own chest. "Excuse me?! I am the mayor of this great Concordia Capital!"
"Right," Julia said, giving him a cool, sweet smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "The Starise Dungeon is located all the way in the Jersey Republic. Last time I checked that is completely out of your jurisdiction. You have zero business meddling in the affairs of sovereign nations."
Logan scoffed loudly, tossing his head back. He turned to Trinity, expecting the Divine Soul Maiden to put Julia in her place. But instead, his jaw dropped when Trinity slowly nodded her head in agreement.
"Julia is right," Trinity said, her voice dripping with cold authority. "This information is strictly on a need-to-know basis. If we decide you need to know, we will tell you. For now, you are dismissed. You should be devising ways of finding Malia Gravis right now. Leave us."
Logan took a deep breath. He inhaled so sharply and with so much anger that his body practically swelled up, looking like a toad that had just swallowed ten gallons of water at once. He glared at Julia, wishing with every fiber of his being that he could slap that smug, irritating smile right off her face.
But he couldn’t. With a stiff, robotic movement, he bowed deeply to the Divine Soul Maiden. "As you wish, My divine soul maiden."
He turned on his heel and marched out. His heavy leather boots hit the freshly clean stone floor with a loud thud as if the floor itself was the enemy that had deeply offended him.
"He’s a snake, you should get rid of him." Julia suggested, like she had done many times before.
"A useful snake. I know what Logan is like and I will throw him out once he becomes useless to me." Trinity answered.
The moment Logan burst through the entrance of the Mystic Sanctum, he didn’t even wait. He threw himself onto the back of his personal transport beast...a large, winged lizard creature, and ordered it to fly directly to the Capital’s central administration center.
Logan stormed through the building like a localized hurricane. Low-ranking officials and secretaries bowed left and right, calling out, "Good morning, your honor!" but he ignored them completely. He slammed his office door shut, marched behind his massive mahogany desk, and aggressively smashed the buzzer button.
"Get in here now!" he roared.
A few seconds later, his personal secretary, Angus Clooney came gasping through the door, clutching his chest and looking like he had just run a marathon up a spiritual mountain. "Y-yes, Your honor? How can I serve you?"
"Get me the direct contact number for the Ground Master of the Starise Dungeon! Right now!" Logan barked. He sneered, recollecting Julia’s words and her attitude. If she thought he didn’t have other ways to find out what they didn’t want him to know, they were mistaken.
The world thrived on corruption, and the Starise Dungeon was no different.
